any reason....
o’day didn’t come in to face cabrera?
And any reason murphy was never running? Would have stayed out of the double play and that is the perfect opportunity to try and get the winning run one basehit away from scoring.
by trgordon723 on May 21, 2009 2:50 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
ODay
There is absolutely no excuse not to bring him in in that situation. I think is another example of the Nolan-edict hurting this club. Its like Washington is scared to go to his bullpen cause he thinks Nolan will get upset or something. Millwood was at almost 120 pitches and had put two men on base in a tied ballgame. We needed an out. ODay has been almost unhittable against RHB. And he is well rested
As for Murph stealing I don’t know about that. Murphy isn’t the best basestealer we have and with a guy tossing upper 90s heat its tough. Now sending Elvis would have been an option and if we had he probably would have scored on Murphs basehit.

yea i agree
sending murphy would be a real gamble.
Plus miguel cabrera is probably the most dangerous hitter in the AL right now and millwood didn’t even have the stuff to put clete thomas away.

I hdan't thought about stealing Murphy
to goad them into throwing with Elvis at 3rd. They would have had to make a choice.
MYoung hits the ball hard and consequently into a lot of dp’s.
Would have taken guts and brains from Wash.

I highly doubt you try a double steal of home with a rookie on 3B
If hes too eager he could get faked by a throw or any number of things happen. Shoulda tried to steal with Elvis on 1st or maybe a steal and hit with Kinsler. Im fine with not running Murph even if it did lead to the game ending DP

Cartoon racism
Anyone ever watch those old Dick Tracy cartoons? Now THOSE had some serious racial overtones!
There’s some interesting ones from the old Warner Brothers era too- the anti-German and Japanese propaganda cartoons from WWII, and a little ditty called “Coal Black and de Sebbin Dwarfs.”

Yeah, I think
he’ll be a decent 1B/DH, but really they need to start discipline some of the guys on this team who throw away so many ABs swinging at trash. I play AJ for those 2, and I let those 2 know thats why they are sitting out. Way too many bad hacks.

for turning off the automation and playing cds for an hour.
Our automation is Jack Johnson/Jason Mraz/shitty americana/twangy country all the damn time.
In the 45 minutes I was on cds, I got 6 phone calls from people asking what the music was, and to keep it up.
Our engineer calls me and tells me to turn off the garbage and stick to the automation.
In conclusion, fuck Jack Johnson.

Do we have to play in Detroit?
Honestly, this sucks but it’s not the end of the world. The pitching and defense remained good. You know we’re going to hit at some point. The only real concern is that these games were played in a similar manner to playoff games and we saw what happened. Then again, so were the last two against LAA. Of course, if you told we two months ago I’d be worried about how the Rangers would handle playoff-style baseball, I’d have taken it.
Remember: young, growing team a year ahead of schedule. Repeat that a couple of dozen times.

I heard bits and pieces of the game ont he Radio
Unfortunately, any time I was able to listen for any significant length of time it was that Barnett guy calling the play by play.
Anyway, they talked like Millwood pitched a very good game. Jackson was apparently throwing hard. How did things really look? I know Barnett seemed to be pissed that Young didn’t come through in the clutch so I don’t really want to hear about that. In general was the offense patient? And how did the pitchers look?
by Black Francis on May 21, 2009 7:48 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Man it was one of those games where even when something went right for us,
DET turned around and screwed us in the butt again. If you watched either of the other two, this wan’t as bad, but still bad if you know what I mean. Edwin was pitching 97mph in the 8th inning too which didn’t help. Their guys have the definite home field advantage against us that’s for sure. You didn’t miss much though. Kinsler had a hell of a catch to get Cabrera out in the 7th though.
