MLB to Fans: Drop Dead
MLB owners have once again tabled the proposal to amend the blackout rules.
Which means, of course, those folks who live somewhere where Team X doesn't currently broadcast games on TV, but might want to or be able to at some nebulous time in the future, can't watch Team X's games on TV -- even if they pay for MLB Extra Innings of mlbtv.com
The contempt with which MLB treats its fans -- particularly the hard-core fans, those folks who are willing to shell out dollars to watch baseball and aren't being allowed to -- is really offensive.
But hey, what else should we expect from this man:

My favorite part of the oft-used pic is the fact that OC is in the background sporting a Yankees cap.
Selig’s still better than Stern.

I think movies where it turns out the British guy did it are probably pretty accurate.

I thought it was a movie...

I can't determine if I really want to see that movie or not....
One hand, being interested to see makes me feel like I’m not a good person at heart. On the other, the hardcore film geek inside of me is anxiously awaiting its release.

Are you really bringing politics into it?

Selig is EASILY the worst commissioner in pro sports
I can’t stand David Stern, and he’s taken basketball and turned it into a ghetto-fabulous dog-and-pony show, but it’s nothing compared to the damage Selig has done to the game of baseball.
He should have been shot the night he called the all-star game.

Selig isn't close
to as bad as Bettman. If Bettman were running MLB the last 20 years, you would only be able to watch it on The Shopping Network.

Sad, isn't it.
I hate Bettman so very, very much.

Selig
He’s pretty bad, though. If for nothing else, his role in the collusion scandal of the 80s, his turning a blind eye to Jeffrey Loria’s antics in Montreal, and his feigned ignorance on the steroid issue.
On the other hand, he does get credit for interleague play, increased minority hiring, and the Wild Card, all of which I think have been good additions to the game.

What is up your ass?
Are you actually for anything, or do you hate everything and everyone? All of your posts are extremely negative offering up nothing but complaints without solutions. I’m not defending Selig, but you have nothing on any topic but bitching.

Then don't read my posts
Okay, here’s a solution: get a new commissioner. One whose not in the pockets of the owners.

Good luck with all that.
You do know the Commissioner gets put in place by the owners, right?

I don't think blaming Selig is enough
The specific owners who are blocking this need to be outed and they should be criticized in public.
I don’t know why Selig is specifically to blame here. Yes, he tries to run MLB with as few dissenting ownership voices as possible. But who knows if some owner can argue that they’re contractual rights are being violated by MLB changing the rules on them without their consent. Selig doesn’t have necessarily have unilateral power on these situations.
So which owners are keeping this from happening? Who has the most to lose by opening up the blackout rules? This seems like the type of thing that a Reinsdorf or Angelos would block (just because they are contrarian and Reinsdorf blocked the Rangers purchase by Gaylord way back).

Please explain,
I currently live in Dallas, so between Fox and local programming, I can essentially watch all 162 games from my living room. But someone from say El Paso or Austin (which I believe is Astros territory) do not receive broadcast Rangers games from Fox or local channels, yet they are subject to blackout by MLBtv and Extra Innings, because . . . . ? I’m not attempting to be sarcastic, I really want to know what their plan is so I can better understand their business model.
It can’t be the allure of trying to get them to travel to Arlington to watch the games, if anything Dallas should be blackout out for that, but Fox offered a lot of money for those 140 games, so it makes sense to make that deal. But I’m wondering what the next deal they’re trying to work out. Same with the five California teams who claim Las Vegas as their territory, though my parents live there and have DirecTv and get probably close to 70 Angel games a year.
If anyone can help explain, it would be probably be very helpful not only to me but others trying to fully grasp this concept as well. Thanks.

The Fox Saturday game blackout irks me the most
Living in Wyoming, blackout rules don’t affect me too much since MLB teams aren’t clamoring to claim this great state as their own (and I don’t give a rat’s ass about the Rockies).
But the Fox Saturday blackout is total bullshit. I pay good money to MLB to watch whatever I want. Yet I can’t watch a baseball game on a Saturday afternoon? Are you fucking kidding me? And since DirecTV has decided I’m not entitled to watch local channels I have to go to the bar to watch baseball on Saturday. So I’m stuck in a bar on Saturday afternoon. Drinking. What was I complaining about again?

Selig is just flat out creepy
