Holland to Get First ML start

Just got a newsflash from Jamey.  Padilla is going on the DL with some shoulder discomfort while Francisco takes his roster spot.  Holland is going to make the start in Padilla's place.  I hate seeing Holland be forced into the rotation like this and Padilla's injury isn't supposed to be serious.  On the other hand, I am excited to see Holland make his first Major League start and he should be able to dominate Houston tomorrow.

Confirmed:
He returned to Dallas after feeling uncomfortable following a bullpen session. He will not pitch tomorrow at Houston. He will probably be placed on the DL on Friday and be activated on June 1. …. Derek Holland will make his first major league start tomorrow. … The Rangers don’t feel the shoulder strain is very serious, but he can’t make this start and the Rangers are not going to go into interleague games short-handed.

Well, heres the thing

*What if he pitches well in his 2-3 starts, then what do you do? Can you tell him he is going back to the bullpen?

*What do you do with the rotation if you keep Holland in it?

*Do you give Holland a pitch count, or let Nolan crack the whip over Dereks back too?

*Is there now ANY chance that Vicente Padilla is a Ranger in 2010?

*If the bullpen continues to suffer, how long till Neftail?

This is our year.

In order to keep his total innings for this year down,

I am fine with him going back into the bullpen after a couple of starts only to be moved back into the rotation sometime near/after the ASB.

I really want him pitching to his full potential in September and not being shut down.

My question, too

The first one, anyway.

I can’t imagine they move Padilla to the bullpen. He showed too much as a starter, and then Holland’s shown a lot as a reliever, too.

Strange thing is, I can’t see them moving anyone from the rotation right now.

Except Scooter. Seriously. He can slot right into Holland’s BP role.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

He was clearly gassed at 53 pitches recently.

I’m sure the adrenaline will help him a bit there, but maybe not.

Bacsik was talking about this recently…that after so long in the BP, pitchers don’t have the stamina to go too long in a start. And that may also be why you frequently see guys sent down to “stretch out” before making their first MLB start.

great

a 50 pitch outing? I’m not sure I wouldnt’ want to bring in whoever was scheduled to go for OKC or Frisco. Probably a worse pitcher than Holland but at least they could give you 100 pitches (and possibly 5 innings). then you could just have Holland take mop up duty.

As it stands, what exactly are we going to see? Holland for 3+? Then? I guess just all fo the bullpen arms that haven’t pitched in so long.

Sounds like a plan…

I also think this could be interesting if he pitches pretty good. Who will get bumped when Padilla is back? I’ve got the feeling they don’t want him going back and forth between the ‘pen and the rotation and would like to leave him in the rotation once he’s there.
