CD and Blalock benched
TR Sullivan was just on XM Radio's Home Plate Channel. He confirmed that for tonight's game Andruw Jones will get the start at First base. While it is no suprise anout Blalock, I didn't expect that Davis would be out.
He also opined that if Holland pitches well, that McCarthy would most likely be the odd man out. Of course it made wonder if a) he goes to the bullpen, and if so b) Benson is finally DFA'd .

I agree....
CD has to figure it out. He has to. He absolutely sucks except for the occasional HR.

If McCarthy continues to go 7 innings and only give up 3 ER
There is no way you can rationalize demoting him to the bullpen.

+1
I’m all for Holland but they’ve still got to manage his innings. He doesn’t need to be starting every five days just yet. He’ll be done before the season is. Just give it a little patience grasshoppers. This will work itself out but Holland will go back to the bullpen when Padilla is healthy. That’s not a bad thing at this stage either. Wait till late June or early July before inserting him in.

3 of his last four starts have been very positive
I will take that from our starting pitchers all season long. If you think Holland is going to go out and just dominate from day one you are kidding yourself. Im all for getting the guy some innings and some starts but not at the expense of other young pitchers who are performing well and who could be a part of our future just like Holland

If McCarthy continues to post an ERA of 5.60
then can you rationalize it?

Tell me
Is 3ER in 7 innings an ERA of 5.60?

I believe its 5.60
But again is 3 ER in 7 IP a 5.60 ERA?

He's pitched 7 innings twice as a Ranger.
So I dont know how you can reasonably expect that in the future.

Hes also never had an ERA of 5.60 either so I don't know how you can expect that to last
