T.R. on XM
T.R. Sullivan was just on XM radio and had the following to say:
- Andruw Jones will get the start tonight at 1B.
- The Rangers had always planned on getting Holland into the starting rotation by 1 June. He will get no more than three starts before the team rethinks the rotation. Sullivan mentioned that McCarthy is looking like the one to lose his spot.
- Sullivan sees the Rangers adding bullpen help if they are going to make any moves (I thought there would at least be the obligatory mention of Ben Sheets).
- The Rangers will reevaluate Smoak after the minor league All Star Game (I was listening on the bus, and it was really noisy so I did not catch any other details; I assume this means a promotion of some sort).
- Asked if all three catchers would still be with the Rangers by the trade deadline, Sullivan said that Salty and Teagarden would certainly still be with the team. Ramirez would probably be dealt because the team would be looking to add a bullpen arm. He also mentioned that the play of Manny Pina has started to make Ramirez expendible (better defensive catcher).

Well damn.
I posted about this, too but you went into more detail….
Good Job
In 1991, I was 8 and thought Kirby Puckett would come beat up the monster in the closet if I prayed hard enough.

Davis
He could probably use a mental day and Blalock should be a reserve for the rest of the season as long as AJ keeps hitting.

Ramirez for a bullpen arm
it would have to be a pretty good bullpen guy for me to be excited about that.

Yeah, seriously.
You’d have to think Max has more value than that. I want a near-ready SP or a stud relief ace.

I came here to split hairs. And you?

I doubt Max alone would get you a near ready SP thats any good
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

Yeah
these days that’s a bit much to expect. But I also would expect such a pitcher to be in play without adding too big of another piece to Ramirez, providing he keeps hitting like he has the last week or two and slugs a couple HRs.

the thing about Max's trade value
If you look at the BA prospect rankings, nearly half the teams have a catcher among their top handful of prospects. I think the number of legit catching prospects throughout the minors is a lot deeper than what it used to be.

Yes, it's odd
These things tend to go in bunches though, SS’s a few years ago, then there seemed to be quite a few young 3B in the majors, and there are a lot of young CFers either in the majors or close. Not many real good middle infield prospects right now.
