Um, Minors thread? 5/22 & 5/23

Everyone must be distracted by Holland's awesome bunting skills.

Star-divide

Today's probables:

The Hickorys already lost, but it wasn't Nam's fault:  6 IP, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7K.  Opponents are now hitting .106 off Namsterdam.

Main just under way in Bakersfield against the rehabbing Kuroda.

Jones trying to plug the hole left in the dike by Hamilton in Frisco.  Whittleman = toast, he is dead to me, by the way.

In Sin City, Mendoza takes the pill against the hated 51s.  Max has hits in 8 of his last 10 games, seems to be waking up.

Oops, forgot shroom's site...

http://my.calendars.net/farmprobs

I'll go ahead and post Saturday's stuff as well since there weren't too many comments here last night.

In HIckory, JoeWee (he of the monster calves) tries to build on his solid debut.

Beavan takes the bump for Bakersfield.

Frisco features Ballard.  Pina seems to have cooled off, just 4 for his last 26, with an uncharacteristically high 26 K's in that span (8 games) after just 34 K's all last year.  I hope he didn't get too excited about hitting during his hot streak and change his approach too much.

Rupe gets the late start for OKC.  As Pina cools, Max heats up, .342 over his last 10 games, though he only has 3 XBH's and 2 BB's in that time.

Yeah, calendars.net has it's good days and it's bad

Just have to reload it until it gets the message sometimes.
You oughta try administering the site on it’s bad days – hair-pulling at times.

How long do you think until he gets consideration for a calup to the bigs?

Furcalito.

Little dude with some serious leather skills.

Reportedly turned a lot of heads in Surprise with his stripper-boob smooth defensive skills and overall tools.

All those tools in a small frame = Furcal comps.

Won’t turn 19 ’till right before Spring Training next year and already with a low-A assignment, which means the brass must think good things about the kid.

Thanks.

Added to my list of names to keep an eye on. Looks like we’re collecting some pretty nice mid-infield depth to go along with all this pitching…

I suspect it's also about improving the defense

When you have all these valued young arms it wouldn’t hurt their development any to have a good infield around them. Adding Morrison, Hollander and Garcia in Murphy and Ogata’s place might help improve their 14th-ranked SAL team defense – FLD%-wise at least.

That would cool to see. Wonder if there will be some cascade moves – somebody up to BAK from Hickory and Boscan activated or NeRa assigned there. They could just start Reed or Roark for the time being. Maybe do that and promote Fabio into the high A pen. Probably will be something boring like Swanson up to BAK and into the roto.

Because...

He has a good slider, a decent change, a fastball he can run up to 96 (though he works mostly 91-93), and a sinker that he’s been working on.

At the very least, he’s a good AA arm.

I read Tim Murphy got “DLed” to work on his mechanics.

Until there’s a reason reported I wouldn’t rule that out for Wieland…

I mean, one start straight out of EST? I’d almost say mechanics cleanup is the likeliest reason.

Lemon has his hit streak broken.

But two walks.

Epic hot start, followed by an epic slump after the Newberg instituted the reverse jinx.

I think Lemon’s back to being Lemon at this point.

How does the Unholy Lemon Alliance (ULA)

feel about his 11 errors? I’m not all that worried about it, but I do wish he’d start to reduce his error numbers now that he’s in AA.

by Brett Perryman on May 24, 2009 1:27 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's a little troubling, yah.

But he’s still super young and with all the reports on his work ethic and baseball instincts I have to think this will improve with time.

I honestly think we’ve gotten spoiled with what Andrus is doing to the point where Lemon’s youth relative to league looks far less impressive than it is.

A 20 year old holding his own in AA is pretty impressive.
