The DOD'er
Darren O'Day.
Let me start this out by saying I am a DOD fanatic. I love what this guy has brought to the table. He has answered the bell time and time again, gone out there and stuck it up everyone's a%%.
I fear one thing. Overexposure.
He is a guy who has been released/DFA'd by two teams, he's come here and right off the bat has shined....that is unnatural....
I expect some regression at some point. He has been released from these two teams mainly for his inability to keep inherited runners from scoring.....
Now to his credit I would expect that # to be high due to misuse by his prior clubs as we've seen what he does to Righties, he absolutely carves them up...and to his credit, since he's been in a Ranger uniform he's abused lefties as well (3.2 ip with 7 k's).....but at some point we have to be realistic....those who come from down undah generally don't keep those types of k-rates to those who swing from the opposite side.
What I'm saying is....he's an animal vs. Righties, but he doesn't K them in a fashion that is dominating (5k/8ip)....with an 8th inning guy, you have to have someone who comes in and misses bats. When someone comes in in the 8th they're generally coming in w/ someone on. If someone is on and a pitcher is throwing who allows contact, that's more a chance we get a dribbler through the IF such as we saw CJ give up against that puny turd Mike Bourne.
I want to mount DOD. I love him. But he doesn't have the stuff that allows him to either come in to shut down a rally or to come in and get 3 outs......long term with continued success. He is what he is....a guy who should be used situationally (is that a word?) and bridge the gap to the setup/closer.
That isn't bad at all.....and he has been doing that, but he can't last as he has been used thus far.....at least in my opinion....
He is a ROOGY, or the opposite of CJ Wilson who is a LOOGY (as of this moment)........
Jesus, if we can have those two, and a Feliz type, or maybe someone through a trade.....we are looking freaking dominant in a "rebuilding" year.
I don't see my word (nor my facts) as gospel, just wanna see what y'all think...

I want to mount DOD. I love him.
I like him too, but nobody is saying he’s an eighth inning guy — at least I’m not. He’s a decent right handed specialist. A modern day Craig McMurtury.
That's why they call them business sox
I'd like to see him turn into
a Gene Garber type. Specifically 1978.
"I saw your act, just didn't make it for me. Just a lot of fluff."
I like having our own Chad Bradford
and i think your analysis of what his role will end up being is on the money
mormons stole me and held me against my will with Oklahoma beer and 12+ hour work days.
Someone posted that he had pitched
11ip in 32 days. Does anyone know how many games he came in to get to those 11ip in 32 days? I fear his poor arm falling off by being abused, just as Wright was last year.
I love O’Day and knowing that he’s not back with the Angels makes it better but I too fear over exposure. He and Pirate along with CJ back to the 8th if he continues throwing strikes is okay by me.
i think 18
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Scout to KG: On Sandoval: "Man, that fat [expletive]-er can hit."

Then that's not as bad as I feared
BMac doing his thing makes the whole bullpen available this week. Yay good starting pitching making the bullpen more effective.
Good pitchers on good teams pitch a lot
Sure beats the alternative.
I hope they use him in 70+ games. Same for Frankie. And CJ.
The paper's game reports
(I think it was in the DMN reports) mentioned Maddux having him adjust to the right side of the plate when facing righties, and the left side against lefties. Perhaps that’s a factor in how much better he’s been here than his previous stops. These submariners tend to have a limited shelf-life, though, so I agree it’s wise not to overexpose him.

i'm worried about him too.
i think he may be the next Wes Littleton.
Greatest Inventions Ever? 1. TiVO, 2. Boobs, 3. Baseball
well then his demise won't occur till next season

"He has been released from these two teams..."
Boy howdy, are the networks gonna run that storyline into the ground when “this thing” is in the playoffs.

Speaking of Nicknames
O’Day’s better not be DOD

i prefer to call him D'Day rather than DOD
