26-17
Back to 9 games over.
And if there was any doubt that this isn't the Matt Kata Rangers, Brandon McCarthy throws a 123 pitch complete game shutout.
The Yanks tomorrow at 1:05 at TBIA.
I'm fired up.

Seems right

Great win. Complete game shutout, wow. Most likely result is now 4 up. Very nice rebound from Detroit. Detroit sucks.
I’m pretty scared of the yankees but at least we avoid sabathia.

mlb.tv has been such a pain lately
pretty much 90% of the time, nextdef turns off in like the 8th or 9th inning. One thing I’ve noticed though is that if it turns itself off earlier in the game, go back after a little while, and slide the thing over to engage it again. If it turns itself off, it won’t turn back on by itself.
One of the downsides I’ve been noticing though is that when you’re using it… it seems to lag on the breaks or something. I’m always behind when I use it.. but if you turn it off, because there is no “DVR” functionality, it stays current. Oh well, just a quick rant there.

it annoys the hell out of me
the 3-4 pitches behind standard def is one thing, but there is no reason for it to be jumpy as hell BOTH on HD and on Standard Def (checked everything on my end, no roblems)

Great job BMac!
But, does anyone else think the Rangers might be trying to break BMac? Pitches thrown last three games: 105, 118, 124.

Looks like he was throwing 2 kinds of curveball
so the faster one might be the slider, and the big loopy one the curveball
Someone needs to ask him if he's been working on it with the coaching staff, and what is
different now compared to ST in his ability to control it. I mean someone needs to ask just for my curiosity. Maybe it’s not that interesting in the grand scheme of Rangers’ baseball.

Per his post game interview,

more evidence youk is a douchebag
To be fair, Youk has admitted he knew Johan wasn’t throwing at him intentionally. He claims he was joking around, though it didn’t really appear to be a joking matter at the time. It’s entirely possible he’s trying to save face after the game because he knows he overreacted when in the heat of the moment. He even went as far as to say Santana takes the game far too seriously.
“Everyone always told me in my career you shouldn’t be so serious. Enjoy the game and joke around. When I do do it, I change my ways and joke around a little bit, I guess it’s the wrong thing. So what are you gonna do? You win some, you lose some.”

it must have something to do with the DVR functionality that causes it to lag (I think during commercial breaks). Because even when you click the live button at some point and you catch up with it… you’ll be behind in 2 innings.

But i guess you are right
"I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the [MLB] for guys to fall in love with [the Rangers’s] sloppy seconds." (thanks cstorm)
At this point...
…the SP you’d want to trade is Padilla, but he’s going to have to come back and show he’s healthy, and even then, you probably don’t talk trade with him until July.
You aren’t going to move any of the outfielders right now, I don’t think.
You could look at doing something in July, but if you are going to make a move, it would be more like packaging some guys for a Halladay-type, or moving a fringe player for a bullpen arm.
Not a Byrd-to-Atlanta for prospects type deal.
by Adam J. Morris on May 24, 2009 4:18 PM CDT up reply actions
If we are out of the race, fine
If we are in first place or a game or two out, I don’t see why you’d trade your starting left fielder for prospects.
Particularly a guy who is, by all accounts, very well respected in the clubhouse and considered a leader.
That would be a kick in the nuts to the players.
by Adam J. Morris on May 24, 2009 4:22 PM CDT up reply actions
These are grown men
and professional athletes. They know the score. They’re not going to mope and fall out of the race on account of Marlon being traded.
You know
Normally I’m the one who is saying that people are overrating the impact of these sorts of things.
But I don’t think you can take a team that is trying to win its first divisional title in ten years, and trade away a starting outfielder from that team — particularly when that guy is considered a team leader and a “glue” guy — and say, “Hey, fellas, suck it up, we know he was an important part of the team and everyone loved him, but he was going to be a free agent after the season, and we thought that getting a couple of prospects outweighed the harm it might do to our playoff chances this year.”
Think how that’s going to go over.
by Adam J. Morris on May 24, 2009 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions
If it appears that we are going to stay in it till the end
then you can keep him Adam. This “gipper” value you’ve attached to him sounds a bit sappy for you, though. Which you did admit to above.
Completely agree
Wasn’t it a few years ago we were sorta in the race and we didn’t make any moves and I believe it was Tex who came out and said the guys in the room were kinda hoping to get some help down the stretch run?
Trading a guy like Byrd, or Guardado would I believe really hurt the clubhouse. No matter who is brought in to replace them. And as much as you hate to think something that small can affect things it always seems little things like that can all of a sudden send a team into a spiral downward
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
it is one thing to be close
it is another to have a lead. the team probably doesn’t look at itself and see a glaring weakness.
During the Tex time, they all probably thought we needed a starting pitcher.
"I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the [MLB] for guys to fall in love with [the Rangers’s] sloppy seconds." (thanks cstorm)
I don't think he's saying you have to trade for someone
I think he’s using that as an example of how a move (or a non-move) can send a message that you don’t want to send.
Trading Marlon Byrd for an Engel Beltre or a Guillermo Moscoso would be a terrible mistake from a political/p.r. standpoint.
by Adam J. Morris on May 24, 2009 4:38 PM CDT up reply actions
Yep
Most players know the drill. They know that if the team is in the race they are looking to add and if they are out they are looking to sell. So when you either don’t follow that script or reverse it it can create weird feelings in the clubhouse. And trading a guy like Byrd who is so well liked by teammates and the manager would be a horrible message to send to the rest of the team.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

"I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the [MLB] for guys to fall in love with [the Rangers’s] sloppy seconds." (thanks cstorm)

The box scores are saying those runs
were unearned but I don’t see an error…hmm……

OT: Wow
Adrian Gonzalez is really good, he just put a crazy good swing on a Ted Lilly breaking ball.

Elvis
I love to see a day where he’s not the story, he goes 1-3, a walk and no strikeouts or errors. Stringing a bunch of these together would be remarkable. Of course remarkable is kind of his middle name.
You know
I was going to say, “You’re gay for Elvis.”
But then I realized that I, too, am gay for Elvis.

So are you all out gay if it’s just the one player you’re gay for?
How many players can you be gay for before you’re all the way gay?
if you build 1000 bridges and suck one cock
you’re still a cocksucker

I’ll take it

Yeah
Only three innings by the Yankees pen, but it’s nice to get back to an opponent coming in off of extra innings. And Rivera did pitch.

happy with mccarthy
but gotta tap the brakes a little bit.
if berkman isnt hitting like chris davis right now, there is a good chance mccarthy gives up a few runs and doesnt make it very far in the game.
How do you figure?
I don’t remember one hard hit ball by Berkman today
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
that's my point
if he wasnt sucking it up ala davis, mccarthy would have given up some runs
berkman was up with multiple runners on base couple of times
SO McCarthy gets no credit for getting him out
It was all because Berkman is struggling right now?
Give the guy a little credit. He made Berkman look silly on his strikeout
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Define "right now"
Because Berkman has a 970 OPS in May. 900 OPS in the last 7 days, 1100 in the last 2 weeks.

angels are really spoiling my fun.
If you had told me we swept the angels and had the best record in the AL I would have thought we were up more than 3.5 games (now probably 3).
the preceding post was a great success.
nope
torii singles in 2 and theres still only 1 out, 7-4 with 2 on.
toast.
stupid dodgers.
the preceding post was a great success.
god this hoffman guy elbowed hudson in the head really hard
he could actually be hurt.
the preceding post was a great success.

Dear Dodgers,
Die in a fire. Thanks.

Ranger fans.
Aikman and Bradshaw?
Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

And now the dodgers are scoring.
maybe if ya didnt give up 3 runs in the top of the 9th losers!!!
the preceding post was a great success.
and theres game
oh well, 3 up isn’t too bad.
im just scared of being swept by the yankees >< winning 2 of 3 would go a long way toward me really believing in the rangers.
the preceding post was a great success.
My sentiments exactly.
This series scares me because of being historically owned by the Yanquis.
