From an Army NCO

Happy Memorial Day, everybody. Let’s kick some Yankee ass in Ag-town! (and get ready for Feliz tomorrow)

Your uncle molests collies.

Nice pic.

Had a great Memorial Day concert at my church last night. I simply cannot sing the Armed Forces Medley without tearing up. The moment the first guy begins to stand as we sing “Over hill, over dale…” I get a lump in my throat.

Some good arms throwing today for our side.

The Frisco homepage claims Poveda is starting today. That would be strange considering it’s Moscoso’s turn. We’ll see.

They end up

with 17 K’s total vs. 3BB, Perez with 9 K’s in 4 innings. Nice. Leury Garcia 2-4, 2B and RBI.

I listened

to one of Perez’ early innings before my internet crashed. The opponent’s coaching staff went ape over the ball/strikes and collectively got the boot. Pretty funny.

by shroomer on May 25, 2009 5:06 PM CDT up reply actions

That may explain some of it

29 K’s between the two teams, probably a good sized zone.

Meh

His OPS is still under .700 and his BaBIP is .368, he’s not walking or hitting for any power. He’s a pinch running defensive replacement if he’s lucky.

Going to the Frisco game Wednesday

in Tulsa. Was originally going to see Kiker, but it’s Poveda now.

Anyone I should keep an eye on? Anything special I should watch out for? I’m hoping Smoak will be over whatever’s keeping him out by then.

Strop out of the pen.

Pina is an interesting guy to watch, he looked a lot better than I thought.
Lemon because his Dad was cool.
Jumbo Diaz, you don’t see his kind every day.

Kiker vs Moscoso vs Poveda

For those of you who have seen them, would you care to rate/rank their stuff? My sense from listening on the radio is that Moscoso’s stuff is improving (and that his fastball is already ML-ready), Kiker’s stuff is good but he needs to improve his command, and Poveda is struggling.

by spurdynasty on May 25, 2009 6:02 PM CDT reply actions

Moscoso's start should

take care of all of the “moscoso to the pen talk”: 8.1ip/4h/3er/1bb/11so/111pitches
8 strikeouts swinging with Garr permitting 2 inherited runners to socre in the 9th on 3 run hr

Last 6GS: 35.1ip/30h/13er/12bb/31so/3.31era
3.06 bb/9
7.64 h/9
7.9 so/9

I still think he ends up there in the long run, but

no way would I hurry to put him there.

Moscoso is an intriguing arm,

I just don’t see him ever getting an opportunity to start.

In 2009, I suspect that he is no closer than 10th in line to start:
Millwood, Padilla, Feldman, Harrison, McCarthy, Holland, Benson, Hunter, Feliz, Moscoso

The 2010 pecking order will hopefully look like this:
Sheets, Millwood, Holland, McCarthy, Harrison, Feldman, Feliz, Hunter, Kiker or Moscoso

By 2011, Moscoso will be 27 and possibly battling Holland, Feliz, Harrison, Feldman, Kiker, Hurley, Hunter, Poveda, and hopefully Sheets, Beavan, Main, and Perez for starts.

Moscoso’s last few outings suggest that he might be on his way to being more than a reliever, but his injury history, age, and inclusion on the 40-man roster suggest that Moscoso is likely most valuable to the Rangers as a reliever (or as a trade chip to a team in dire need of a near-ready starter).

by spurdynasty on May 25, 2009 8:56 PM CDT up reply actions

IF hunter or benson

are ahead of Feliz (or moscoso in fact) I’ll eat my hat.

by Goyogringo on May 25, 2009 9:47 PM CDT up reply actions

If a Rangers starter went to the 15 day DL tomorrow,

whom do you think would be asked to take his place in the rotation until Padilla came off the DL?

by spurdynasty on May 25, 2009 10:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Doug Mathis

If they needed someone right now.

Come July or so, probably Feliz

by brianphayes on May 25, 2009 10:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Since Padilla

is probably coming off the DL on Friday I am not sure they would need another SP.

Benson?

Only thing he’s in any line for is the waiver wire. And he’s at the head of that list.

by brianphayes on May 25, 2009 11:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Mathis get pulled after 2.1 IP

PBP guy speculating that Mathis is getting called up as he didn’t appear to get injured; the coach just suddenly came in to pull him unexpectedly.

Seems weird if that was the case, as Mathis has to be added to the 40 and someone removed. Maybe Benson got his walking papers? Or maybe they just fly mathis up to the ballpark so that he can be the emergency taxi squad…

by Goyogringo on May 25, 2009 9:29 PM CDT reply actions

oh please let Benson be cut
