OT - MLB.TV Inquiry
I'm moving to Colorado for the summer for an internship, and will thus be out of the Metroplex until mid-August, and consequently without Rangers game feeds until said time. I've thought about getting MLB.TV to be able to watch Rangers games while in Colorado, and was wondering what suggestions or opinions y'all might have of its use and functionality. Would you recommend the basic or the premium? Would you recommend it at all? What things do I need to know about it going in before using it? Any help or advice that can be offered would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Personally...
I bought the premium and then shared the account with a friend, but I live in a city with a lot of transients (DC), so it’s not hard to find someone interested in sharing an account.

Well I don't mind paying for either, so that's not an issue.
What do you think of the feeds and functionality of the premium version?

Yeah... I share it with my roommate.
We can both log in at the same time, from separate computers, so we don’t have any issues with that. I’m pretty sure there is some login threshold out there, because we have seen an error on too many logins, but it is really rare, and only really happened when we had to log out and in a ton of times because the system was having issues already.
But to the overall question of the thread. I’m really happy with it because getting to watch Rangers games at all would be impossible without it. I’ve never used extra innings, but isn’t that like $200… and you only really get that at your TV.
I would definitely recommend it if you want to watch the games. I would get the premium subscription because you get a lot more features, and the HD feeds. The HD feeds are actually pretty good. We have a desktop hooked up to our 40’’ HDTV, and it looks really good on there. Pretty much like a digital cable channel. Not a true HD channel, but definitely better than an analog channel. If instead you run it on a laptop or a computer monitor that is more around the size of 15-19 inches, it looks even better because of the smaller resolution, the feed is displayed more cleanly.
The downside to it is that it can be really finicky at times. Sometimes it will lose the HD feed, sometimes the HD plugin turns itself off which tosses you back to standard def. The HD feed is really delayed, sometimes by as much as 2 batters. With that being the case, it makes it difficult to watch the gameday threads, or boxscores online if things are out of sync.
But even with those things in mind, it is well worth the cost.
Hope this helps.

thoughts
i recently got it (iN DC) as well — the biggest complaint i have is the HD lag
but ive had other issues with it being jumpy/lagging recently but that may be my computer more than anything probably (im hoping at least)
i dont know if they reduced it closer to mid season last year but if they did you may want to consider waiting
id get premium btw — btwn the HD feed and the fact that you can do the mosaic (up to 4 games on one screen at once) its def worth it
and if you use/have multiple monitors there is a “hack” out there so you can do full screen on one monitor without it going crazy — ask dshep about that

I have the premium and I don't use the HD because the delay makes posting in GDTs here absolutely useless.
But being able to choose whether I want to hear Josh and TAG or the other team’s feed, no matter who’s at home and who’s away, is a nice feature.

I'm also annoyed that nexdef runs at all times, whether your browser is running or not, and uses 20-30 megs of RAM by itself.

You can configure your computer
so it doesn’t run on startup. But you need to know where the .exe file is to start the program when you need it.

i wiped my comp and went from a dual boot vista/windows 7 setup
to a windows 7 RC only setup
so far everything has been much smoother (other than some strange stuff with opera going non responsive for a few secs then coming back) — but maybe it will work out ok/better with IE 8
heres hoping :)

Hey buddy
You know I have this. It’s worked pretty well for me, even off of wireless internet. On campus, I was able to get good coverage, as long as I didn’t have a whole lot of processes running on my computer (you know how old my computer is). It’s really nice to be able to switch feeds, so I’m looking forward to watching games in Utah. The only pain is with the HD. I got it working pretty well with the high speed internet in College Station, but here at home it’s almost impossible. The DVR feature is cool but I rarely use it. I usually just turn off the NEX-DEF and watch in the highest quality without it I think it looks okay. I think I have premium, but I’m not sure what the difference is, or how I got premium.

Really?
I didn’t know you had MLB.TV already. Thought you just had the radio feature.
