5/26 minors thread

Only two games slated for tonight.

Crawdads deadlocked at 1-1 going to extra innings. Carlos Pimental is quietly going about his business and putting together a nice season. Tonight he goes 5.1 ip allowing 6 hits, 1 run, 1 bb, and 4 k. David Paisano is hitting like he's never hit before, which is to say he's hitting a little. Tonight he goes 2-3 with an extra base hit(!) and a walk(!). BA ranks him as the best defensive OF in the system, which is pretty strong praise considering Beltre and Borbon have both been profiled as above average.

And the stopdown prospect in the system, Big Cheese Feliz, takes the ball against Reno. Through 2 innings so far, with 2 hits and no runs or walks allowed. 3 k. Radio feed available here.

As always, thanks to Shroom and his magical calendar.

His line the last two games and these 3 innings:

14 IP, 7H, 2 BB, 15 K

Is he still the youngest player in AAA?

struggling with control in the 4th

3 long at bats resulted in 2 bb to load the bases, then coaxes a grounder that they couldn’t turn for the dp.

God forbid anything happen to Face

but if he was out for a while, wouldn’t Esteban German be the best choice to fill in?

He’s got a .428 obp at OKC, ML career of .358.

I dunno, can he replace Face's horrific defense?

I’d hate it if the only position we were getting negative defensive value from suddenly turned into a plus.

A Rangers club getting plus defense from every position = the universe implodes.

I can personally attest to Paisano's defense being plussy plus.

The Latin Wind can go get it in CF.

I should be going up to see Hickory again in a few weeks with my pops.

Can’t wait.

that guy was always my only prayer when we traded danks

he’s so young and just turning it on and has enough plus defense now, im really scared we lose him in the Rule 5.

big Paisano guy, but im a sucker for young super high upside guys, and loved him after i saw his DSL #’s with the CWS, even if those generally dont tell the whole story if any.

mormons stole me and held me against my will with Oklahoma beer and 12+ hour work days.

I have a tiny bit of hope for him

but his stats right now are not very impressive. He’ll have to improve a lot just to be a 4th OFer at this point.

Yah, the bat is pretty terrible.

But I want his CF defense to bear my children.

I think he could have a future as a 5th OF on an NL team or a team with a terrible defensive OF who needs to replaced late in close games for defensive purposes (like Cheese Lee, ManRam, etc.)

How bout we just loan Greinke for the Tigers games

we will just give the Royals everybody else in those games and play Greinke vs. Tigers…. Grienke is good at hitting too.

Whats the ETA on Borbon?

assuming his average creeps up above the .281 level its at (if maybe only a little). OBS looks decent at .333, but what do we think? July? August? Where would you bat him in the lineup? i would pull him up after the ASB at some point if the team is looking competitive, but my major worry is bringing up another young guy if the offense is still struggling.

It'd be tough to argue.

I know he doesn’t have the crazy, elevated ceiling as others, but I like Beavan up there.

Keeps on consistently doing his thing, while others get the bigger hype.

Ramirez

Is it a bad sign that they’ve held him in extended spring so long?

I propose a 5-year moratorium on trading any young Ranger pitchers who throw over 90 mph.

Yes.

Though how bad is certainly up for debate.
