Law and Sickels with draft stuff
Keith Law has his mock draft up, with Brownwood's Shelby Miller going to Texas at #14. Mike Leake, a guy I mentioned as someone the Rangers might have interest in, slots in at #15 on Law's draft, and Matt Purke (and his recent reportedly ridiculous bonus demands) is slotted in at the Yanks late in the first round.
Law also has his updated top 100 draft prospects list up, with Miller checking in at #5.
John Sickels runs through the top RHPs in the draft, a list that includes Miller.

Bah, behind the pay wall.
Someone smarter than I please tell me why they don’t want Turner. Is it just the money or college thing?
Jacob Turner: STRENGTHS: 90-96 MPH fastball, better secondary pitches than Miller, good athlete. WEAKNESSES: Extra risk of high school pitcher, high price tag with Scott Boras/North Carolina factor, command can be erratic.

Draft
This year is the least in tune I have been with the draft and college baseball (Go Owls!) in a long while. I really have little idea of what is going on.
two things:
ESPN Insider – BOOOOOO… No way I’m ever giving my money to those clowns, and I’m angry I clicked on the link.
Is there any chance at all Crow falls to us, and if so do/should we take him?
I like the high school power arm approach JD has had lately, and I’d stick with that unless there is a can’t miss bat (i.e., Smoak) there. But Crow may be a special case.

Very slim chance Crow falls that far
He’s pretty much the consensus 3 pick. Lowest I’ve seen him is 5.
The CJ hate is getting old.

I'm anti-Crow.
His mechanics might be different now than they were in college, but based on what I saw last year, I don’t want my team to pay millions for those mechanics.

you talking about Aaron Crow?
cause he is pitching lights out right now for the Cats…
2-0 ERA-0.00 11IP 5H 2BB 13SO Opp BA .143
He doesn’t go deep into games, though, but that’s probably b/c he knows he will be in a big league system soon…
What is it about his mechanics that has you concerned?
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
Dykstra has all the money!

Inverted L and other timing concerns.

Like I said, it’s been a year, and maybe he’s changed. I’m still not on board.

Not to sound callous
But if Crow throws 4-5 good years before blowing his arm to smitherings, then it isn’t so bad, right? Whichever team will just move on and Crow will still have the money from his signing bonus and his pre-arb years/1-2 arb years, plus whatever money he can get by putting insurance on his arm a la Matt Harrington.
Aaron King is still my homeboy... iffy mechanics and all
If Dustin Pedroia played in Seattle, not many people would be talking about him.

I wouldn't mind Miller
I like what I’ve read so far.

So is Shelby Miller the guy we're most likely to end up with?
he’s 3rd favorite on Sickels’ list from people that voted…Crow obviously blowing everybody away

I wish the Rangers were the worst team in the lg last yr...
ha. There are a few players I like in this draft that i hope are there when the rangers pick. I do like the Rangers drafting philosophy of BPA.
