Well
I guess this answers the question of who will Padilla replace when he comes back.

when is Padilla eligible to return from the DL?

Having too much starting pitching...
It’s never a serious concern: someone will have to spend time on the DL sooner or later.
I propose a 5-year moratorium on trading any young Ranger pitchers who throw over 90 mph.

That sucks
but at least this team can just plug Padilla back into the rotation and stick with Holland for a while if Harrison needs to go to the DL. These kinds of occasional injuries are a lot easier to swallow when you have starting pitching depth like the Rangers. Here is to hoping that Harrison takes all the time he needs to get healthy.
Now please, for gosh sakes, don’t let Benson make that start on Friday.
We have some depth
and it’s nice that Holland is our 6th man, but beyond that our depth thins out (Benson, Mathis, Mendoza all suck). and, I personally don’t want Feliz up until August at the earliest

"Trade for" as in add one?
Not sure this development answers that question, but it does seem to answer the “do we need to trade away a starting pitcher” question (not that there was much call for that).
No, it doesn't

How does this set up the staff?
Holland tonight, Feldman Friday, Mathis/Hunter/Benson Saturday, Millwood Sunday, Padilla and Mathis/Hunter/Benson for the DH Monday?

blah
Either he or padilla doesn’t hurt much, but both of them.. all these options suck.
the preceding post was a great success.
We were going to have to use a filler at some point
this really doesn’t change anything.
Millwood and Holland can just start on Normal rest on Sunday and Monday.

Perhaps
But im assuming harrison probably misses more than one start. Hopefully it doesn’t take long to get more of an explanation.

Even then
it’s still fine. Padilla’s back on Tuesday. Holland replaces Harry until he gets back.

Didnt realize padilla was back so soon.
Well, good then, heh..
Btw we do have monday off. I guess with wanting to push b-mac back anyway we would have had to still use a filler.
the preceding post was a great success.
That works perfectly then
your horse (Millwood) can take the mound vs. the As while you give your rookie lefthander an extra day’s rest.

Talk about a downer.
Benson sticks for now I guess. I’d either start him or Hunter for the DH on Friday and hope like hell that this Harrison issue is minor.
im down for moscoso or mathis
hunter threw a ton in his last game so he is not an ideal option
basically anyone but benson
So did Moscoso
111 pitches

Guillermo Moscoso despite his stunning game yesterday, is not a legit prospect. He is simply too old, too skinny, too weak, and lacks the fastball to make it at the professional level. Fooling kids that are years younger than you is much easier than trying to fool the New York Yankees or the Boston Red Sox. I wish Moscoso the best and I hope he proves my doubts wrong. I doubt it though. I mean how many skinny, older pitchers without overpowering stuff make it the majors? How many stay there?

That made me laugh out loud
This is my favorite from Crops:
How close is Poveda to the majors? Close. Frisco is only 45 minutes away from Arlington and Poveda will probably get to pitch for the Rangers this season. He reminds me a little of Blake Beavan. Both have great size and strength and both are really young. Both are right handed pitchers and both have great pitches. What’s not to love?

I don't get the clamor over Mathis.
I’d rather save Benson’s roster spot on someone else that could actually help this team.
I'm so glad its the A's we're playing in this doubleheader
Otherwise, I’d be really worried. Its not ideal, but its still a winnable game.

If it's all about the 40
We have three choices: Moscoso, Hunter or Benson.
My vote is for Hunter, but I wouldn’t really mind seeing Benson. Because then they have good reason to DFA him after giving up 6 runs in 4 innings to the A’s.
my big thing is Holland putting it to the yankees
and if he does that, I don’t care what else happens today. let’s continue to prove these are the Matt Kata Rangers

Hunter, Moscoso, Mathis>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Benson
Those would be my choices. Hunter is already on the 40. Moscoso is going to have to be added sooner or later. Mathis is a short term solution but if you add him you can’t take him off without giving him free agency, which I’d rather not do because I think he’d be a perfectly fine long reliever.
Regardless are three are vastly superior to watching Benson suck again.
Moscoso is on the 40 already
according to texasrangers.com.
But since he pitched Tuesday, I don’t think he is really an option.
Moscoso is already on the 40
They all are far superior options to Benson, but Hunter and Moscoso went well past 110 pitches each their last outing and adding Mathis to the 40 for just this one start is pretty pointless IMO.
I say just throw out Benson for one start and take our lumps. His roster spot is valuable and doesn’t need to be wasted on a guy like Mathis.

if you send Benson out there
you still need to bring up a long reliever. I don’t think pitch count is going to keep Hunter out of the start. But they might bring up Mendoza to be the long reliever and let Benson start.
With Moscoso on the 40
then start him, get five or six innings and use Benson as the long reliever in one of the games that day. Yeah he threw 111 pitches, that doesn’t mean he’s not available for 75-85 in five days.
choices
1.) Start Benson the first game and then DFA him between games and put Mathis in the bullpen.
2.) DFA Benson on Friday morning, start Mathis the first game, option him between games and activate Hunter.
3.) DL Harrsion, call up Hunter to pitch the first game, option him between games and call up ???? for the bullpen until Padilla comes of the DL.
Any other choices?.

Left-hander Matt Harrison will miss his scheduled start Saturday because of left shoulder inflammation. From EG:
DH Hank Blalock is absent from the lineup for the fourth time in the last six games. Even though two of those missed games were in an NL park, it’s starting to look like Blalock is no longer an automatic for the lineup. The Rangers possess a strong bench and they are going to use the guys who are performing well off it. That might mean more playing time for Andruw Jones in the DH spot and less for Blalock. … Jones is the DH tonight. He is 9-for 32 with three HRs and 12 walks against Yankees starter A.J. Burnett for a career .478 OBP. Blalock is 1-for-10 against Burnett
