Matt Harrison hurt

Matt Harrison is scratched from Saturday's start with a sore shoulder.

That's all I have right now.

Well

I guess this answers the question of who will Padilla replace when he comes back.

when is Padilla eligible to return from the DL?

Having too much starting pitching...

It’s never a serious concern: someone will have to spend time on the DL sooner or later.

I propose a 5-year moratorium on trading any young Ranger pitchers who throw over 90 mph.

by Slaw on May 27, 2009 4:33 PM CDT reply actions

That sucks

but at least this team can just plug Padilla back into the rotation and stick with Holland for a while if Harrison needs to go to the DL. These kinds of occasional injuries are a lot easier to swallow when you have starting pitching depth like the Rangers. Here is to hoping that Harrison takes all the time he needs to get healthy.

Now please, for gosh sakes, don’t let Benson make that start on Friday.

and it’s nice that Holland is our 6th man, but beyond that our depth thins out (Benson, Mathis, Mendoza all suck). and, I personally don’t want Feliz up until August at the earliest

Guillermo Moscoso despite his stunning game yesterday, is not a legit prospect. He is simply too old, too skinny, too weak, and lacks the fastball to make it at the professional level. Fooling kids that are years younger than you is much easier than trying to fool the New York Yankees or the Boston Red Sox. I wish Moscoso the best and I hope he proves my doubts wrong. I doubt it though. I mean how many skinny, older pitchers without overpowering stuff make it the majors? How many stay there?

How close is Poveda to the majors? Close. Frisco is only 45 minutes away from Arlington and Poveda will probably get to pitch for the Rangers this season. He reminds me a little of Blake Beavan. Hunter, Moscoso, Mathis>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Benson

Those would be my choices. Hunter is already on the 40. Moscoso is going to have to be added sooner or later. Mathis is a short term solution but if you add him you can’t take him off without giving him free agency, which I’d rather not do because I think he’d be a perfectly fine long reliever.

Regardless are three are vastly superior to watching Benson suck again.

by Hull Fan on May 27, 2009 4:54 PM CDT reply actions

Moscoso is on the 40 already

Moscoso is already on the 40

They all are far superior options to Benson, but Hunter and Moscoso went well past 110 pitches each their last outing and adding Mathis to the 40 for just this one start is pretty pointless IMO.

I say just throw out Benson for one start and take our lumps. His roster spot is valuable and doesn’t need to be wasted on a guy like Mathis.

if you send Benson out there

you still need to bring up a long reliever. I don’t think pitch count is going to keep Hunter out of the start. But they might bring up Mendoza to be the long reliever and let Benson start.

by Oddibee on May 27, 2009 5:00 PM CDT up reply actions

With Moscoso on the 40

then start him, get five or six innings and use Benson as the long reliever in one of the games that day. Yeah he threw 111 pitches, that doesn’t mean he’s not available for 75-85 in five days.

by Hull Fan on May 27, 2009 5:11 PM CDT up reply actions

choices

1.) Start Benson the first game and then DFA him between games and put Mathis in the bullpen.

2.) DFA Benson on Friday morning, start Mathis the first game, option him between games and activate Hunter.

3.) DL Harrsion, call up Hunter to pitch the first game, option him between games and call up ???? for the bullpen until Padilla comes of the DL.

Any other choices?.

You can't really DFA him 5 minutes after he started

Well, you can, but I don’t see JD and Co. doing that.

if only you were RW's gut zy

we would all be in better shape

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

just let Madrigal start like last year

our bullpen is rested enough. Make them earn their paychecks.

More details

Per Anthony Andro:

Left-hander Matt Harrison will miss his scheduled start Saturday because of left shoulder inflammation. General manager Jon Daniels did not rule out the possibility of Harrison going on the disabled list. Harrison was bothered by the irritation following a Monday start in which he allowed seven runs in five innings. He’s been given medication, but not an injection and no MRI has been performed.

Doesn't sound too bad.

Ok, I guess its not quite panic time yet..

Sounds like arm fatigue.

In which case Zywica nailed it.

Unconditional Release

I suggest Benson is gone, and Mathis takes his slot. Why else would they have brought him out of the game early the other night?
No need to DFA Benson, he has zero value to other major league teams.

Man I hate to sound negative

about the three choices we have to replace him, but UGH! I hate these are our only options.

w00t!

From EG:

DH Hank Blalock is absent from the lineup for the fourth time in the last six games. Even though two of those missed games were in an NL park, it’s starting to look like Blalock is no longer an automatic for the lineup. The Rangers possess a strong bench and they are going to use the guys who are performing well off it. That might mean more playing time for Andruw Jones in the DH spot and less for Blalock. … Jones is the DH tonight. He is 9-for 32 with three HRs and 12 walks against Yankees starter A.J. Burnett for a career .478 OBP. Blalock is 1-for-10 against Burnett

Friday

Cut Benson, call up Hunter to start the game, then send him back down after the game and add a reliever.

I guess that reliever is Mathis, unless Willie Eyre is ready to come off the DL. I have no idea what his status is.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

When the pitcher whose bandwagon you’re driving goes down, does that mean that you go on the shelf as well.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have an irrational hatred of Chris Davis because his Ks are way too ugly and irrational liking of Matt Harrison because he's a lefty - deal with it.
