GDT needs a limit on comments
I think it's time to change the GDT comments limit. It appears Adam doesn't really have an idea at what limit to set. A GDT can be either 300, 400, 500 or even up to 600 comments. I think this needs to change.
There should never be over 300 comments in a thread. 300-400 comments is way to much in a GDT. Adam does forget at times and lets the GDT get way out of control. We need a change on the GDT.
The average game day thread is running wild and uncontrolled until Adam closes it out and starts a new one. My point is we need a GDT manager.
LSB has come to the point where we need someone to not let the GDT get over 300 comments. Yes, that means we could have quite a few more game day threads. But so what.
I suggest Ben should be in charge of the GDT and make sure it never gets over 300.

Who cares....
And how many times can you say the same thing? I infinitely prefer the “75 word limit” over and over again strategy
Wow
You clearly don’t read other LSB sites.
You didn’t even mention computer lag as your reason for wanting the limit.
what is your reason?
Lag
That’s the reason I stay out of the gameday GDTs altogether, unless they are playing a day game and I’m at work. Even then it’s sort of a beating with how terrible they make my computer run. It’s fine until it approaches ~200 comments, then it just goes haywire.
Things are even worse for me this season because MLB.com's new media player is an absolute memory HOG.
All I have is the gameday audio, and that thing sends Firefox from about 68-70,000k of memory to over 100,000k – which I think is almost half of my computer’s capacity.
It’s really putting the kabosh on surfing for fun pics/GIFs while participating in a GDT, and it’s made it really hard to use the TVants lately.

I don't come in the GDT's as often
as I would cause of the lag as well for me. I could go either way though on this..don’t really care.
Yeah
It’s easy to avoid the GDTs or just not go into a thread with 300+ comments. Plus, it could be worse – noticed on Lookout Landing today that their second game thread (of two) had 1100 comments. That’s a lot.
no memory problem
I’ve got 4GB Memory. I think that is enough
But sometimes there is a lag depending on if i’ve got other stuff open or am doing stuff. But usually I’m just here on LSB and have no problems. My point was that the game day thread really shouldn’t get over 300. Why have the damn GDT get that long?
My garden this year... planted tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, okra, and for the first time i went with eggplant
So we don't have 20 threads. If you want to view it, close the other stuff.
the preceding post was a great success.
yes, leave ben in charge of making new gameday threads
i’ve been wanting to see how a 3,000 post thread would look
the preceding post was a great success.
All you have to do is refresh
and no more lag. I think we should only be allowed to illustrate what we are thinking through haiku. For example:
Andrus is a stud
He can throw from just one knee
Johjima was robbed.
That's why they call them business sox
There once was a man named Elvis
whose play at SS really thrilled us.
He went deep to his right,
and threw with great might
by putting some torque in his pelvis.

What an awesome play
Vizquel might be rubbing off
Clearly Not Ready
And leave the GDT thread where it is...
hell I say make them bigger. I hate when fun/good conversations get cut off.

What LSB really needs...
is a way to down-vote people.

Go visit some other SB Nation sites
GDT regularly approach 800 comments. THAT is when it get’s out of hand. I think Adam has a good limit for them, when it gets close to 500 he makes a new one.
If you look at the GDT totals, you see that each one has pretty much the same amount of comments…..therefore he is OBVIOUSLY paying attention.
How about we just go back to the shitty old system, where comments didn’t auto update and you had to refresh your page to see new comments? Maybe then you would be happy.
Don’t take for granted the luxury you enjoy here at SB Nation.

there ya go cowpoke. your dream site. im sure those threads load instantly.
the preceding post was a great success.
yeah the other teams have it worse from the few I've been to
I hate when sometimes AJM doesn’t put the link to the new thread at the end of the old one though before closing it. It’s very annoying to start typing something cause you think it’s still going and then not be able to >.<
I don't have a lag
I guess 8 gigs of memory helps. There’s still some tweaking you could do if you have less. For example there’s a great and very simple memory manager called SweepRAM. Close down as much as you can, and run that. It is actually recommended that you don’t use it very much. Google it and see about the recommendations.
But my internet is not very fast at all. S.Dallas is stuck somewhere in the 20th century and all I can get is DSL. It’s faster than the first DSL lines, but not much. I think 4 megs down at best.
Before I got this computer I did see a big lag in the big threads. That computer was from like 2002 though. Then I discovered turning off images. Problem resolved. The animated gifs really slowed things down.
Anyway, before making a request to change how someone’s website is run, I believe you should at least research ways to solve the problem yourself.
I found a 'turn off pictures' option in IE
I’ll try that and see if it helps make the GDT’s more nimble.
Isn't that option
in the preferences on your username page as well? I think you can have the page load without avatars or pics.

I find it funny...
that you think Adam doesn’t keep up with things enough, so you recommend that I do it. Now that’s funny.
