I probably would have left him in since he got him out, or gone to another setup guy.

by Brett Perryman on May 5, 2009 6:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Really?

Frankie with a 5 run lead and 2 outs to go?

I guess we are expecting to lose tomorrow.

by Adam J. Morris on May 5, 2009 6:45 PM CDT reply actions

we really need another reliable bullpen guy

I need to hear clark's thoughts on this

he has the most bullpen rants on this site in the last 2 months — he’s some sort of expert he thinks.

no no, expecting a blowout victory

but yes, this is stupid.

the preceding post was a great success.

by DShep on May 5, 2009 6:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Should have left O’Day in or brought in someone else. Maybe Francisco will only need like four pitches or something.

by Brett Perryman on May 5, 2009 6:46 PM CDT up reply actions

he's taking him out?

i think this may be overdoing it

Omar Vizquel: your starting shortstop for the 2009 AL all-star team.

by gossamer on May 5, 2009 6:45 PM CDT reply actions

WTF is Frankie doing in this game?

If ODay is done bring in Holland or CJ or someone. We don’t have a day off until next Monday so theres no need to use your closer in this situation

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by bigsteve on May 5, 2009 6:46 PM CDT reply actions

I don't get it

We need Frankie, with a 5 run lead, to face a guy with a career 495 OPS?

by Adam J. Morris on May 5, 2009 6:46 PM CDT reply actions

Wash is going to run Frankie and CJ into the ground by the ASB

after the turbulence yesterday?

Jennings?

Why not throw him in there?

this

Aikman and Bradshaw?

Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

by SarasotaRanger on May 5, 2009 6:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Grieve makes a reasonable point

It may be that, with Frankie having gotten up as many times as he did, he wouldn’t be available tomorrow anyway.

But the bullpen situation is problematic right now.

by Adam J. Morris on May 5, 2009 6:48 PM CDT reply actions

yeah

but it’s also an indication of the quality of the other options…or lack thereof

by Dirk Diggler on May 5, 2009 6:49 PM CDT up reply actions

We need to DFA Guardado or Mendoza immediately after this game

Not being able to trust either of them with a 5 run lead and burning your closer is absurd. The ridiculous thing is I agree with the decision given who’s in the pen.

by ryan_xpress on May 5, 2009 6:48 PM CDT reply actions

We could just option Mendoza but I get your point

Bringing in your closer in a nonsave situation when they don’t absolutely need the work is a recipe for implosion. And now Frankie walks the first batter
