The problem with the Rangers getting good.

HUGE Rangers and Cowboys fan. My attitude towards everything hinges on what these teams do that game.

Here lies the problem. When the Cowboys lose, I am in a semi-depression for the rest of the day. Then pissed off the entire Monday. By Tuesday I am still ignoring any sports media but coming out of it slightly. My wife hates football season.

It would not be so bad if I had not experienced the highs of the early 90's. The SuperBowl wins are a bitter sweet curse, if you will for the present.

This brings me to the Rangers. I have been raised a fan, I have had access to season tickets nearly all my life. My Papa had season tickets at Arlington Stadium. I lived at Arlington Stadium every summer. I myself have had season tickets for the past 9 years. But I have been reserved to the fact that the Rangers are nothing more than a bottom tier team (except for the three times in the late 90's). Right now if they lose I simply avoid BBTN or Sportcenter for the night.

So this brings me to my dilema. If and when the Rangers get good, every loss will be a deeper emotional injury. Every loss in September and October will be even more heartbreaking.

But what am I talking about. Bring on the tension, bring on the stress. I am ready for some "Red October" again!!!

The big difference between football and baseball ...

is that in baseball there is almost always a game tomorrow. When the Cowboys lose it ruins the entire week following the loss. I haven’t had a decent December, mood-wise, since Bill Parcels was coaching. With the Rangers, those bad feelings can sometimes be removed less than 24 hours after a loss—and if they are playing winning baseball, that means the bad days will be fewer and will be expunged that much quicker.

Now once they win their first World Series ….

Another difference ....

Football seems to be much more greatly affected by “heart” than baseball. In baseball, a team can bust its ass and still lose because the opposing SS made that amazing grab or the opposing pitcher was just unhittable. There are few times during a Rangers season that I find myself thinking “if these guys would just grow some pride, they would win more.” The last few seasons in particular, I can’t think of many Cowboys losses where the team didn’t just play flat and act like they really didn’t care. That Philadelphia loss to end last season was one of the most gutless Cowboys performances I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen quite a few from this team during this decade—especially in December). Losses like that are much harder to stomach than the typical baseball loss (even in the playoffs).

The Rams loss was the one for me

That game was a disgrace. I still havent seen, heard or read any analysis or highlights from that game and I never will.

So...why is John Hart still being paid?

You are right about the

Turn around times for games. That will cushion the blow, some. But again I am ready for it.

Still, a better problem to have

then not having any sports to follow between the end of the NBA playoffs and the kickoff of the NFL.

I see no problem...

with the Rangers becoming a good team. Perhaps it’s just me.

Good problem to have

although if they get really good, then you wont be able to buy cheap tickets and go sit wherever you want to at the ballpark.

by Chow Time on May 7, 2009 2:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Also not an issue for me...

I have the same seat on my couch every night.

I hope they start selling out every game while going to the playoffs every year.

You get over Cowboys losses much faster than I do.

I don’t go anywhere near sports media for the rest of the week when they go down.

ive all but avoided them

Same here.

This is my far the least I’ve followed the NFL off-season, and it’s because of how tattered last season left me.

I'm just glad to see some people getting excited

Those of us who were willing to put stock in the improved talent level going back to 2006/2007 and last year have had an excitement level, but it’s largely been internal because it was impossible to get anyone around you excited without more tangible evidence, and of course there have been all of the folks who haven’t wanted to talk about anything but John Danks, Chris Young and ferns. It’s ironic that LSB sort of gained the reputation of having a bunch of optimists during that time, but it’s because there are savvy fans here who don’t necessarily get caught up in the frustrated emotion of the last decade.

This morning I heard Craig and George, two guys who are Rangers fans, but who have become (Craig mostly) about as jaded as any media about the team’s outlook, get excited just talking about all of the positives surrounding the club. It was really refreshing and I hope was something we’ll get to see a lot more of around town. It’s still very tenuous in the immediate, certainly, and just a fraction of the help that the staff needs has reached the big club. But here’s hoping more of this good play and resulting positivity is in our future, because it is fun. Oh and of course it makes all of us who have been trying to tell friends and acquaintances that this time is different look smart.

by Brett Perryman on May 7, 2009 2:59 PM CDT reply actions

that is going to happen to every team

we’re still in first, and we’ll have to battle to stay there. we, definitely, need more bullpen arms (that Wash will trust).

A positive from yesterday – Davis went 2 – 4 with a homerun and only 1 K. Hopefully he can get turned around, along with the return of Hamilton next week.

There are a couple things that aren’t really letting this team down that has let them down in recent years – the defense and starting pitching.

Do you turn down blowjobs too?

After 10 years of suck, how anyone can have ANY problem with the Rangers being good is beyond me. Just sit back and enjoy it or go find something else to do. Either way, don’t come on here spouting off about how your tender sensibilities are somehow hurt by the team finally being good. Jeez….

Way to nail the Human Condition, Texasportsfan.
So this brings me to my dilema. If and when the Rangers get good, every loss will be a deeper emotional injury. Every loss in September and October will be even more heartbreaking.

And I so luvs me the outdoors life. But when it rains it makes my lil clam go all salty and dry up and get itchy and whatnot.

So the groundbreaking insight you’re contributing is: The more you love a team, the sweeter the wins (the thrill of victory!). And oh my galoshes, there is a corresponding downside to losing [the agony of defeat!].

This is your point? I’m really feeling this.

For your next diary, do Mexican food!

You know LSBers, there are few things in life I love more than sour cream chicken enchiladas. Mmmm enchiladas. But, it pains me to say, despite how much I absolutely love to eat, no, make that DEVOUR up on some sour cream chicken enchiladas, I’ve noticed a few lb.s pack on after a good feed.

Whatever am I to do? It’s a real humdinger.

BT...read your comment on the other board...I agree.

Probably could have beers together and have a good time.
Unfortunately, the group-attacks around here curtailed that possibility.
Not much fun anymore.

I apologize

I will not post opinion’s any longer. There is no room for things like that on this board. This is not a forum for fans to express their feelings, I realize that now. I will now log off so I can create some unique formula using stats shown by a graph, that will make all the true Rangers fans like me.

lol

to hell with them. keep cheering.

but i will say, i’ll take the agony of defeat over the humiliation of losing with rotten downright putrid play.

Don't take it so seriously

Most of the snarkiness is similar to guys giving each other shit while having beers and watching baseball. People should really be much less sensitive about what some joker on a blog posts about their post. This isn’t an affirmation circle.
