Font goes for Hickory at 3:30 CT. Yoon-Hee Nam gets the ball in the nightcap (against T. House!).
Shroom's schedule says that the 7 O'Clock hour will see Mathis pitching at Oklahoma and Hyatt at Frisco.
Kirkman goes for the Blaze at 9p. BTW, the Bakersfield Blaze and Santa Barbara blaze are separated by about 60 miles as the crow flies, but one would have to travel 148 miles by car, according to maps.google.com.

The only T. House I know used to be the Rangers' pitching coach.
This guy was drafted out of high school in the 16th round by Cleveland. A quick google search reveals he’s a lefty with a low-90s fastball that tails, and a good slider. He’s got some tools.

In addition to what rooster said, he was BA’s pick for a breakout player in their system.

Michael Main not so hot.
Michael Main, rhp, Rangers: The Cal League is not a good place for a fly-ball pitcher like Main, but that alone is not enough to explain the 20-year-old’s early struggles with high Class A Bakersfield. Main’s ERA sits at 8.39 through six starts, with a 19-16 K-BB mark and 37 hits allowed in 24 2/3 innings of work.
He’s actually in good company though, joining David Price and Lars Anderson on the list.
And just for clark….
BLAST FROM THE PAST
Former Royals lefthander Jimmy Gobble got his walking papers late in spring training at the behest of Kansas City manager Trey Hillman, who is not a fan of lefty specialists. It didn’t help that the Royals had signed Juan Cruz to join a bullpen that also included Ron Mahay and Kyle Farnsworth. Gobble is now on his third organization (White Sox) at Triple-A Charlotte, after being signed and released in camp as well by the Rangers. Through Thursday, he was 0-0, 4.91 in 11 innings.

It is the Florida State League… but yeah, pretty unimpeachable.
I still wouldn’t be surprised if Kiker’s the better pro. Three promo’s in a row, he’s dropped that BB rate… It’s not pretty now, but give it time.

I don't think it's the fly balls that are giving Main a trouble.
In fact, his GO/AO is 0.93 and considerably closer to 1.0 than last year. He’s just been very, very hittable, to the tune of a .356 BAA.
He’ll get it together.

De Los Santos guns down Donnie Webb, a kid who had been successful on 11 of 12 SB.
Font is off. Walks the first two. 10 pitches, 8 balls. Seems to be missing either inside or low. I don’t mind if he’s missing in those locations.
No velocity reports, but he’s thrown a couple of sliders that got swinging strikes, and now a K-swinging on a change-up.

2 RBI day for De Los Santos. 2 for 2: 1B, 2B
Font has thrown a lot of pitches. This is a fairly old lineup he’s up against with a lot of players with large OBP-AVG differences. 2 24-yo, 3 23-yo, 2 22-yo, 1 21-yo, 1 19-yo.
Seems to be missing least with his slider, and his fastball misses most often inside, but occasionally off the outside edge in punch-out counts.

Had a really nice outing at Hickory today. One hit, a home run, was all he allowed in 5 IP in which he K’d 5 and BB’d 1.

Riders game
Hyatt really stunk, and there were some poor defensive plays.
I guess i got spoiled watching andrus at SS, Lemon isn’t bad but he certainly doesn’t have the range and he needs a little work on those jump throws.
The ladies seem to love lil lemon, a woman with shall we say “large assets” moved to the front row trying to get his attention while he was on deck.
The highlight was the smoak homer that put them back in a position to have a 9th inning rally.

Are they holding back on upgrading Frisco’s OF because it would gut the BAK offense? Is Bianucci not enough?

A trade
and a future as a middling big leaguer with ok production at 1B for a few years if he’s lucky. Maybe he peaks at something slightly less than Lyle Overbay? I think he has a chance to be more than that, which is why I’m so anxious to see how he does at a higher level. Old for Clinton, and now in a hitter’s league, I’m wary of being too excited about his numbers, but it’s a good combo of patience and power.

ran into some trouble in the 5th, but otherwise, his peripherals look great and he’s still striking guys out at a very, very high rate while not walking at a bad rate. He’s off to a better start than i could have hoped for such a young kid in A ball. Im guessing they continue to limit his IP and leave him in low A all year, but then again, a promotion to High A might not be a suprise with the way the Rangers treated Holland and Feliz last year.

KK was great Last night, Im not sure if anyone else caught this humorous
incident, but in the third inning, Kasey had a no hitter going and the nine hole hitter Matt Sulentic decided to bunt and ended up getting a hit b/c of it… Of course, KK was none too pleased about this and proceeded to throw at him the next time he was up. One WP behind Matt’s head and then beaned him with the next one, I thought it was pretty much classic Kasey… Of course, Smoak gets hit the next inning.

All those baserunners, I think that’s the key stat explaining the ERA so far…
The stat to explain the HR total is beyond me. G:F is pretty microscopic.

And, to add to that
a .359 BaBIP last year, and so far a .250 number this year. Left on base, 67% last year, 82% this year. StatCorner pegs his tRA at 4.73, and it was 4.82 last year. I’m not discouraged about him by any means, but I’m not especially excited by his start this year, as all these numbers leave some questions.

I'm very excited
and wondering if this time next year he will occupy a status somewhere between where Holland and Feliz presently do.

You really think...
he could jump up that high on the prospect radar?
He has been damn good so far, but that is some elite company you’re talking about there.

Status within the org, I suppose I should say
Hopefully this time next season he might be in line to be added to the Rangers bullpen soon – June-ish – with the possiblity of starting come late summer if injuries or performance open a spot for him. That’s not quite Holland, but a little better than I expect Feliz will be able to accomplish this year considering his troubles so far.
It’s also categorized as ‘wondering’ which is why I’m excited since Kiker’s rather pedestrian ’08 performance and fitness did not put him high in my ’09 expectations. A nice surprise so far.

I think he'll be a solid contributor
at some point in late 2010 or early 2011, but my point above is that his start this season doesn’t suddenly change my opinion of him. I would have thought that anyway. Of course, if Feliz keeps a K/BB ratio of about 1.3ish all year, then he might slip in the rankings of a lot of folks here. But I wouldn’t put Kiker ahead of Feliz in any way unless Feliz is struck by a meteor or something.
