Is he still available? I didn’t see his name listed on the MLB draft tracker- really thought he’d have been picked by now.

I've got to wonder about that
Beavan is doing really well but McCarthy can’t stay healthy. Isn’t there such a thing as too tall?
Ryan Anderson is a
good example to start out with. Andrew Brackman?

Don't get me wrong
I’m not upset about the pick because I know nothing about the kid. At least he’s already 225lbs which allays some worries. I just wonder though if there’s a point where height is a disadvantage rather than advantage.
Most guys flame out, tall or no.
And there are plenty of tall guys who work out. The percentages are fine. They tend to get focused on a bit more cause they’re interesting.
The 40 Trumps All!!!
Chris Davis will be fine. Relax.
by thedirkatron on Jun 10, 2009 3:07 PM CDT up reply actions
McCarthy has a track record for just not being healthy
nothing about his height being the issue.
Meanwhile
Erlin falls because he’s considered too short at 5’11" and any guys that are 6’0" 180 lbs. are talked about as being small. I would think a guy in the 6’0" range would have an easier time coordinating all the moving parts.

Big kid at 6’3’’, not a great fastball, but I wonder if they think they can make him like Holland. He does have some pitchability, and the Rangers probably got a little big of a bargain at this slot.

the team
must have a lot of faith in their LA position players, because this is unreal. Our lower level strength is undoubtedly on the mound, and yet we continue to grab these arms. I can’t help but feel (hope) that each case is “Well, we thought we’d go SS here, but this area scout is jumping up and down that there’s no way this pitcher should still be there, so we’ll grab a SS next round.”

Based on the roster that Cole got a hold of
and the current DSL rosters, I think Polanco is a visa casualty. Hope I’m wrong.
Have you heard anything on Velazquez, def. going to be assigned to a short- season squad?
That might be too much to ask of him
But they have challenged guys like Ed Martnez, Leury Garcia with Baks and Hickory, so who knows about him.
That could be an interesting exercise for Shroom or someone

#35 of FL. Jayce Boyd, of, Tate HS, Pensacola
For Tate High’s Jayce Boyd, the wait will go on at least one more day.
Day one of the Major League Baseball Draft came and went Tuesday without Boyd coming off the board, and he’s now a safe bet to be picked in the early part of today’s rounds, which run from 4 through 30, starting at 11 a.m.
Since he wasn’t picked, his future is still up in the air, but it was a fun experience for him.
“I figured it probably wouldn’t be (Tuesday) anyway,” said Boyd, who already has signed with Florida State. “I was just excited to watch because half those guys drafted today, I’ve played against or played with.”
He came close to being picked by the Chicago Cubs. The organization called and made him an offer with the 79th pick, toward the end of the second round. He turned it down, though, because he’s expecting either the Red Sox or Yankees to give him a chance to play summer ball for them to see if he can earn the undisclosed money number he wants from them.
Boyd still is expected to be easily the first area selection in this year’s draft, but several other local baseball players should be chosen at some point during the next two days. The MLB Draft runs for 50 rounds.
West Florida High pitcher Brett Lee is the next high school player who will likely be picked. Lee also is an FSU signee, and Major League scouts are attracted to his 6-foot-4 frame and left-handed delivery. He’s expected to go somewhere between rounds 12 and 20.
John Church at the University of West Florida led the Argos with a 1.55 ERA this season and can expect to see his name called today or Thursday. He should be chosen somewhere from rounds 15 through 25. Tate High grad and University of South Alabama catcher David Doss also could hear his name called today.
Pensacola Junior College catcher Robert Beary and Milton High pitcher Paul Baggett both have a legitimate chance to be drafted, but it likely won’t come until Thursday’s later rounds.
Players who choose to sign with the team that drafts them forgo their college eligibility. If a player decides to play major college baseball, they must stay for three years before being draft eligible again. They can re-enter the draft sooner if they choose to play at a junior college.

Jerome Werniuk is a hulking 6-foot-6, 220-pound righthander. Because of his size, he has difficulty repeating his delivery and his fastball is just average right now. If it all clicks for him he has a chance to be special.

BA:
The Wolfpack has several other pitchers who could go in the first 15 rounds, such as righthander Sam Brown, a tease who was a seventh-rounder out of high school in 2006 and an 18th-rounder last year as an eligible sophomore. He has low-90s velocity from a low-three-quarters slot.

Shawn R. Blackwell Clear Creek HS, TC
mormons stole me and held me against my will with Oklahoma beer and 12+ hour work days.
From PG:
SCOUTING PROFILE: Blackwell has a long-limbed build with loose, easy actions and projects well. He throws from a tricky over-the-top release point, which forces him to clear his head in order to get his arm through, but his arm action is more natural than most young pitchers with his release point. He does a good job staying on line and getting over his front side on release. Blackwell’s fastball is routinely between 88-91 mph and pretty straight, but he does a solid job of spotting his fastball off the center of the plate. His out-pitch is a mid- to upper-70s curveball that has 12-to-6 shape and a hard, sharp bite that freezes hitters. Blackwell also throws an occasional sinking changeup in the mid-70s that could develop into a nice pitch for him with more use. When Blackwell is in sync with his curveball, it is a definite out-pitch, even when hitters know it is coming. Blackwell’s fastball velocity has been pretty steady for the last three years, but it’s easy to project him gaining a bit more speed when he gets stronger.-DAVID RAWNSLEY

Florida’s most complicated case is outfielder Riley Cooper, a premium athlete with tremendous speed who doubles as a wide receiver on the football team. He made little contact this spring with the bat, striking out 41 times in 89 at-bats. Cooper plans to play for Cotuit in the Cape Cod League this summer, rather than attend summer school like most football players do, so he’s likely to be a summer follow.
