Re: Kinsler and the ASG
He still deserves to be the starter based on overall numbers.
His .387 wOBA is 19 points higher than Pedroia’s, his 5.6 UZR is third behind only Polanco and Kendrick (who are last and third to last in wOBA among 2B’s) and his 2.7 WAR gives him a full half-win edge on Aaron Hill.
Even as terrible as his approach is right now, his awesome April still makes up for it.
If you can't watch Holland and see that he's going to be awesome, you probably shouldn’t be watching baseball. - Section 339
LSJ
He won’t get voted in. Avg, HR and RBIs are what voters use to determine who deserves to go to the ASG.
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland - 2009 Rangers Minor League POY
He does lead 2B's in HR an RBI's, too BTW.
(although by just one apeice over Hill)
If you can't watch Holland and see that he's going to be awesome, you probably shouldn’t be watching baseball. - Section 339
He won't beat Pedroia in the voting.
Then it comes down to the manager and the 1 rep requirement. Right now I don’t think he gets in.
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year

If you assume...
…that the only thing that matters in voting for ASG starters is what they’ve done from Opening Day thru the day you vote.

I believe the point is to reward the guys who are having all-star seasons
So yeah, pretty much.
If you can't watch Holland and see that he's going to be awesome, you probably shouldn’t be watching baseball. - Section 339
What is the point then?
Because that’s usually how the “all-star” moniker is used by those who use it as a qualifier.
If you can't watch Holland and see that he's going to be awesome, you probably shouldn’t be watching baseball. - Section 339
If the point is to reward the guys who are having all star seasons...

If the point is to reward players with good careers...
they’d only have the game maybe every 5 years.
Ron Washington...giving hope everywhere to the kids who eat lead paint chips of being a big league manager when they grow up since 2007.
The real point of the event is publicity and fanfare
But people tend to use it as a qualifier that player X is having a good season when they’re talking about him in the second half.
I don’t really put much stock into the entire thing myself, it’s just a fun excuse to go through the league leaderboards. But I do think that because it tends to be used as a qualifier of what kind of a season an player has had or is having, you should vote for the guys who are performing the best in that season.
If you can't watch Holland and see that he's going to be awesome, you probably shouldn’t be watching baseball. - Section 339
Same here.
