New Jeff Wilson mailbag
Jeff Wilson has a new mailbag up, with questions about trading for Peavy or Oswalt, signing Ben Sheets or Tom Glavine, sending Chris Davis to the minors, moving Jason Jennings to the rotation, and why Jarrod Saltalamacchia isn't hitting...

So...
…no chance at Peavy or Oswalt. Probably better in the long run, but it sure would make me feel better right now. I like the idea of picking up Glavine on the cheap.
I'd rather see
BMac go to the bullpen and Holland stay in the rotation when BMac comes back, unless Holland is just absolutely failing out there. Having to adjust to his frequent injuries really hurts this ballclub.

yeah
if they start jobahughes’n him…it’s gonna be on like donkey kong.

I agree with Wilson
Josh needs a heavy dose of DH when he comes back. AJ and Blalock are not getting the job done at DH. Go with Murphy, Byrd, Cruz and Hamilton in a OF/DH rotation.

I think things
could easily change by the time Hamilton gets back. Lots of streaky hitters on this club. Anyone of the folks you mentioned could be hot or cold.

AJ and Blalock
There may be better options but in the league Ranger DH’s are 2nd in slugging, 1st in doubles, 3rd in HR’s, 4th in OPS.
The weaknesses are like everyone else the OBP virus going around this team. Ranger DH’s are 10th in BA and 10th in OBP.
League average DH is .249/.334/.432 9HR 33BI
Rangers DH’s are .240/.317/.502 13HR 34BI
Real Estate sucks right now – I have nothing better to do but look this shit up.
And the Rangerrs' DH stats
are being propped up by their April performance just like Ian’s stats.

Padilla
is inconsistent. But many MLB pitchers are inconsistent.
And many Rangers are inconsistent.
So, Padilla’s personality must be part of the problem. His persona seems very quiet and subdued on television and so on. But, I wonder if he’s some type of jackass or something? Because it does seem like very few people defend him much.
I could be wrong.
Padilla has
ace talent (or at least strong #2 talent) but his performance overall has been fairly mediocre. I just think they are trying to send him a message to pitch closer to his potential.
A strong Padilla could be a cornerstone for this years playoff run. The normal Padilla is more of a league average innings eater if he is healthy.

Padilla
Agreed. He has wicked stuff at least half the time. His fastball is mid-90’s consistently. We’re trying to DRAFT players with stuff like his! Most nights his fastball moves too much.
I wish I knew more about his mental approach. Some players are very coachable and some are not, that sorta thing. Because unlike so many players we hear about, Millwood, Chris Davis, Murphy, Kinsler, very few people say much about Padilla. Or so it seems to me.
He probably wanted off the island before hurricane season started...
