I still have some doubts

The La La La’s are the reigning champs, and I’m sorry, they’re going to have to blow up a big lead against them for me to be comfortable in terms of winning this year.

No matter what happens, lots of progress is being made, though.

The reigning champs are a .500 team right now

Until they start looking like a team that deserves to be above .500, I’m not worried about them

Yes, the Rangers definitely have holes, though you could say that about most of the contenders.

Yes

The sky looked AWESOME and a little bit terrifying (and I did both basic and advanced storm spotter training this spring). We only got a few drops of rain, which really surprised me. At one point there was a rainbow across the entire outfield, which was pretty cool. Apparently there was some awesome lightning but I missed most of it because I was watching the game and not the sky.

That one was pretty good.

Definitely a well done remake, with a logical “reason” for the reboot actually written into the movie in a pretty clever manner.

I thought the guy who played Kirk was super soap opera plasticy and wish they’d pick someone better for that role, but whatever.

Overall definitely pretty good.

Oh, and the new doctor is terrible. It’s like watching someone He’s do a bad impression of the old doctor and it’s just annoying.

Th new Scotty was awesome, though. Pegg is greatness.

As a former Trekkie

I didn’t particularly like the fashion in which they used the “time travel/alternate reality” card to pretty much go off-canon as they pleased, myself. I also thought the “transwarp transportation” angle that gets Scotty and Kirk back onto the Enterprise mid-film was really, really weak.

And you’re right, the new McCoy was horrible.

But other than that, it was a pretty satisfying action flick.

You’d be guaranteeing 14mm to a 36 year old, and if he pitches 180 innings of below average baseball in 2011, he’d get 14mm+ again as a 37 year old?

Nah.

If he wants an extension

I’d say maybe 2 years at 14 million. Throw in a lot of incentives there that could kick the deal up another couple of million even. I don’t want to pay him that much just to get a veteran presence in the rotation.

How often can the loss of a baseball game be as completely laid on

one player as the Mets’ loss tonight can be?

Yes, obviously other people played parts, for good or bad, in bringing the game to that point… but ultimately the game was totally won if Castillo just makes an easy play… and then completely lost once he didn’t.

Usually such mistakes at least provide for a chance to salvage the game later on or in extra innings.

What a gaffe. That game was at 99.99% win expectancy with that ball on the way down… and then at 0% once the ball was dropped.

by Texas_Dawg on Jun 12, 2009 10:54 PM CDT reply actions

that was an all time bad play

Castillo is not gonna like living with that… The Mets are living up to Hamels billing recently

Matt Palmer is one lucky SOB

He’s looking at being 6-0 now despite giving up four runs to a punchless offense today. the one Angel announcer was saying you can look at all the stats you want, but 6-0, he’ll take it, and the other one said sometimes it’s not how you pitch, it’s what day you pitch.

by Inkara1 on Jun 12, 2009 11:16 PM CDT reply actions

Seriously.

I keep looking at his start dates and thinking “good chance to pick up a game”.

I should start factoring in that the Angels will score 10 runs whenever he pitches.

by jdh90 on Jun 12, 2009 11:17 PM CDT reply actions

I'd feel bad for him if he hadn't done that gangsta pose

That, to me, makes the difference between “everyone loses track of the outs sometimes” and what he pulled today.

He just had to show up someone and made himself look like an ass instead, even though it made no actual difference in the game.

by Inkara1 on Jun 12, 2009 11:19 PM CDT up reply actions

True

It’s odd because he never did that BS when he was with us from what I remember. He did chase after the Royals announcer, but that was it.

Actually, after seeing a 2nd angle...

I think he was just taking a breath that he hadn’t lost a second one in the sun.

He was cool about it after the game and owned up to it, answering all the questions, without trying to make excuses.

by Texas_Dawg on Jun 12, 2009 11:27 PM CDT up reply actions

He made the pose because he botched a play earlier

and took a lot of flack from the fans. I think he was trying to joke with the jerks at Wrigley, sort of a “oh look, I can catch a ball thing” but it backfired in a pretty horrible fashion.

yea, there wasnt a whole lot of great things going in the minors

but Kirkman’s K/BB numbers were good tonight, thats encouraging as he previously was walking a few too many and not striking out enough batters at the AA level. Hunter also had a real nice outing in AAA. Beyond that, not a whole lot when on today

Anyone see Milton Bradley throw the ball into the stands thinking he'd just recorded the 3rd out?

So hilarious. He turns his back on the diamond (where runners have tagged up and are circling the bases with abandon) and spends several seconds pondering exactly where he’ll toss the ball, then lobs one into the RF bleachers.

Ah, Milton.
