It will never get old

Seeing the Rangers at the top of that list.

I approve of this message.

It’s becoming a rather nice habit to look at that daily.

yay

Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was on the same pitching staff with Danny Darwin during the 1986 through 1988 seasons. Both were described by Milo Hamilton as "tall, tough Texans." It was a source of debate amongst Astros players and fans over who would win in a fight, Ryan or Darwin. Though Astros pitcher Bob Knepper attempted to set up a fight between the two during spring training in 1988, manager Hal Lanier stopped it before it could commence. Many experts, including Astros shortstop Rafael Ramirez, felt that Darwin would win because he "looked like someone no man would want to mess with."

...and two weeks later we're STILL 10 games over, and 4.5 up

Kind of sucks... until you think about it

No Hamilton; Struggling Kinsler, Young, Jones, Blalock; Frankie hasn’t pitched in 10 or 11 days; Our #2 starter was put on waivers;

Right now, were in survivor mode, and doing it pretty well.

by octoberty on Jun 13, 2009 1:12 PM CDT up reply actions

well some of those might not get fixed this season

but yeah, i agree

No, it's normal

Give it to late October.

Hmmm.

3 vs HOU
3 at SF
3 at ARI
3 vs SD
3 vs LAA

That takes them through July 1st.

Seriously

What the hell is up with the weather.

I can’t decide if I should goto the game or not. It is looking like its gonna be just west of Arlington, but hell you never know.

You know

I used to think that too, but really, it’s a very nice place with very nice people, and the only downside is its isolation from other metro areas.

I’ve come to realize now that that is also a positive.

Neighbor gave me 4 seats to tonight's game, 10 rows behind LA dugout

I’m taking my fancy camera and a 400mm lens. Hope to get passable shots and share with the LSB world tomorrow.

400mm lens eh? report back if you get any harassment for bringing something that big in.

i want to get a bigger lens but i fear that i wont be able to get into the stadium with it due to guidelines, etc. some places measure them

unless it's a mirror lens

you should be able to get good shots. Ballpark lighting is good. Just open it up all the way and go. I’m not into nature or sports in generally, but I have a 300 f/4 that did the job pretty well out there. Had to underexpose to freeze action but if you know your PS you can still make it look cool.

Ballpark lighting

I havent tried at a rangers night game, but the roughrider night games can be a biotch.
my 55-250 3.5-5.6 just doesnt get enough light to run a high ss even at 1600 iso (at least not from the spots ive tried)

this is a damn expensive hobby, ive looked at longer L lenses and god they get pricey

Yeah you need a prime

Not a zoom, and it needs to be stabilized. I’m guessing you know what kind of money that kind of glass costs. You’re into Kia Spectra territory. But on the bright side since you’re shooting Canon you can rent a lens instead of buying one.

I’ve never been to Frisco but I’d think they’d have good lighting. I haven’t had trouble with the lighting at the ballpark.

by Black Francis on Jun 13, 2009 8:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

Theres a guy that shoots there with a 300mm prime, he seems to do ok but he also knows all the spots to get good lighting.
Its hit or miss, behind home plate is well lit but you have the damned net.

As far as renting, i thought about that. I know competitive camera rents lenses.
