Rangers Draft: Kevin Goldstein Q&A at Inside Corner
I wasn't around yesterday (all my posts during the day except the morning links one were pre-loaded), so I missed this Q&A with Kevin Goldstein over at Inside Corner.
Some really good stuff from him on the Ranger draft class, with Goldstein being very confident the Rangers will sign Purke, and offering a lot of thoughts on a variety of guys the Rangers snagged.
Check it out.

Kodachrome was damn fine film.
Especially the 64 speed. It was weird though and required its own special development process so they eventually ditched it, I guess. Last time I used Kodachrome there was only one place in the US and one place in Europe that could develop it, and the place in the US happened to be in Dallas.
I’d go for velvia or portra VC if I were still shooting film nowadays.

Truer words....
If you took all the girls I knew
When I was single
And brought them all together for one night
I know they’d never match
my sweet imagination
everything looks worse in black and white

Excellent chat with Scheppers from before the draft

Looks like he holds the coaches at FS accountable for his shoulder problem.

Did the Rangers really draft a guy named Jabari Blash?
Jurickson Profar, step aside.

They drafted two guys named Jabari.
Lots of Murphys, Jabaris, Pimentels, and Guillermos. I wonder if Levine has done a study on names…

Two Jabaris? That had to be the entirety of the kids named Jabari eligible to be drafted

Am I the only one
that thinks “pre-loaded” posts are a form of cheating?

Great Q&A, good stuff in there
Goldstein loves him some Rangers farm system, and rightly so.
On a tangent, Goldstein has gotten to where he’s my clear-cut favorite BP writer. Unlike quite a few other writers over there he doesn’t give off the “I’m smarter than you and want you to know it” vibe. In fact, he’s pretty self-deprecating, giving all the credit for his info to the scouts and his other sources.

I'll ask the same question I did in the fanshot:
Something that I’d be interested in hearing is someone who knows a lot more about shoulder anatomy than me reconcile what I heard Daniels (and Hopkins) say the night of the draft with all of these comments and reports (like from Goldstein here) that state very matter-of-factly that his injury was a stress fracture last year. Daniels said plainly, and Hopkins echoed, that it was never a stress fracture injury. Evan Grant asked him very directly and referenced the problems that Brandon McCarthy has had with that injury, and JD said that it wasn’t a stress fracture but a muscular injury, that they did all of their homework last year before the draft and knew his situation then, and that they did their full on medical review when he visited before this draft.
I suspect that there is might be an explanation as to how there is truth in both of these statements, but on the surface they seem completely contradictory.

I thought the same thing
Scheppers talks during his chat interview about the extensive work that he did on his shoulder muscles to strengthen his rotator cuff and alluded that his injury was caused by overwork. It seems like his “stress fracture” was an initial misdiagnoses and it was instead a muscle issue.
Once again, it looks like the guys never had a stress fracture and the media continues to misdiagnose off of a bad medical report. Good for Texas if true….

When I went researching for info on this, I stumbled across...
…something which Goldstein wrote last summer at BP that indicated the initial stress fracture diagnosis was incorrect.
