Frankie Francisco avoids the disabled list (for now)
Per the S-T, the Rangers have decided to hold off on putting Frank Francisco on the disabled list, at least for the time being.
Frankie hasn't pitched for ten days, and after throwing yesterday, is taking a day off from throwing today. Sunday, per Ron Washington, they will "amp him up" and see where he is, apparently with an eye towards him either being good to go or on the d.l. for Tuesday's series opener against Houston.

Doesn't feel like things are going in the right direction.
I’d bet he lands on the DL after his ‘amp up’.

If Wilson, O’Day, Jennings, and Grilli can hopefully pitch well, I think we’ll be in ok shape.
I just don’t want JD to panic and trade for Street. Who knows what he’ll cost.
Agreed
Should have been on the DL, and I say that because of the idea of using him in “low-pressure, non-closing appearance or two before resuming the role of closer.” (per Evan Grant). That is called a rehab assignment, Mr. Daniels, Mr. Washington. If you’re not sure he’s the closer, than send him to a rehab assignment until and unless you’re certain he’s really ready to go.

Wonder if anyone
has ever been put on the DL for one day, retroactive 14 days, then activated the next day?

I don’t understand what the issue is. Why don’t they just put him on the DL? Closer by committee seems like a reasonable option for the time being. I’m worried they are going to put him out there before he’s ready.

the most obvious answer is that there is an injury that really has no chance for complete recovery
unless he is allowed extensive time off to heal and/or surgery. Sometimes players are talked into playing with injuries and then dealing with it properly after the season ends
