Stadium/Player art signed + updated version
Due to the magic of photobucket's view tracking I saw exactly how diminished the views are for fanshots so I'm going to go ahead and fanpost this.
Note: These images are larger resolution than LSB will show, copy/paste the url for the real sizes if you wish.
-----------
Picked up the signed version of my stadium/player cartoonish artwork at the game today, thanks to Chuck Morgan for getting that done for me.

Here is a link to the original pic.
In the meantime I also continued to revise the "realisitic" version of the stadium a little bit.
Here is where I was at the fanshot. And here is probably the finished version.

Here is an additional night version, it was a rushed alteration and needs more work but I don't feel compelled to do so right now heh.

Main changes would be the new sky plus field texturing which I'll highlight below next to the original. And some lighting.

Here is a standard widescreen desktop of the realistic dusk pic, here for night.
And finally links to my previous signed things since its been years aside from a random GDT post.
Young (the only of these 3 I spent a ton of time on), Kinsler, and Dellucci.

From left to right (yeah I know the likenesses arn't great =p)
Michael Young, Elvis Andrus, Hank Blalock, Chris Davis, Ian Kinsler, Ron Washington, Josh Hamilton, Nelson Cruz, Marlon Byrd, Kevin Millwood and Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
I forgot to point out CJ Wilson’s blue glove hiding in the bottom left (i had a printout that said who was who) so he didn’t sign it. I’m going to track him down in the bullpen at some point this season to finish it off. I originally had significantly more players on it but it was just too crowded.
and obviously thankyou!

I'm sure BGL would pony up a sig for a gem like that.
I think it is a tie between Nelson and Milly for the best “autograph.” Nelson’s for making me think of “NC-17” and how awesome it would be if he thought of himself that way. And then Kevin tries to match your deft tact with his little “33” loop. Nice touch, Milly.

I was going to post it over there since I havn’t done so for my last 3 projects. No images over 10 pixels tall/wide and only one link per post? Can’t say I’ve ever encountered that.

Amazing work.
Is it done from scratch while looking at a reference pic, or are you overlaying the original somehow?
How long did the new stadium image take to complete?
Is this what you do for a living also, or is PS just hobby?

Thanks for the interest
(and thanks to all those who have complimented, though I don’t want to spam it up with individual replies without anything I can add)
Reference – some of both. For the most part I had the reference on my left monitor and the file on the right, but I’ll admit there are some areas I copied some of it over and pretty heavily flicked parts of an image on/off (particularly the building backdrop and getting the infield outline) but other parts (big videoboard section, stuff on top of the roof, foreground) wern’t in the photo and were done with reference from photos that were from a completely different spot in the stadium and thus redrawn in the correct perspective. So I certainly wouldn’t say I blocked out the whole thing without some abuse of photoshop’s power, but it wasn’t all tracing or anything either. Plus the completely different lighting/shading/etc.
Well to get to the cartoon/early realistic versions in the fanshot that was about 2 weeks of working 4+ hours a day on it. To go from that to the new version posted in this thread was another few days of that lately after not working on it for a while. Since its not under the pressure of an actual work thing I typically waste a lot of time redoing small lighting changes and messing around with different versions and alterations and such that wern’t really necessary.
Job- I wish. Trying to but so far no I havn’t been steadily paid for photoshop or any digital art stuff. Anyone wanna buy a full quality print =p?
the preceding post was a great success.

I just use photoshop for photos
…wouldn’t it be far easier to use illustrator for a project like this? I don’t have much experience with it…am just asking why you chose photoshop, which seems to be overkill. In illustrator I believe you can also use vector graphics.
by Black Francis on Jun 16, 2009 5:43 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Just the program I've used the most and know my way around the most
I don’t know about overkill though, its the most popular graphics program there is and in the same product package as illustrator heh. The advantage to illustrator would be vectors and thus not worrying about resolution and avoiding the high file size/save times this large file did. But thats just the first stage, I’d go right back to photoshop for all the shading and later textures/clouds/etc. in the realisitc version anyway.
the preceding post was a great success.

Nah.
I don’t really see the point in paying for it or going to the trouble of stealing it. I don’t do much manipulation and a photo usually only takes me a minute or two in CS3.

I'm the opposite
I don’t see the point in photoshop if i dont do much manipulation.
I use it for small raw file tweaks and cropping.

Lightroom
Photoshop is for more manipulation to me. for tweaking sharpness and adding things to the photo. Or for things not even photo related.
Lightroom is a newer program from adobe designed to be a virtual darkroom.

There are things I do
…that Lightroom will not do, and I wouldn’t consider it manipulation. You can look at my site and see that I’m not a big fan of manipulation.
I don’t see the point in paying for Lightroom when I am so well versed in doing the same things in a paid-for copy of PSCS3. If I needed software I probably would get Lightroom. It’s pretty nice.
by Black Francis on Jun 17, 2009 4:07 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
totally understand
If i was versed in PS i wouldnt switch either…wasnt suggesting that you should.
I was watching some PS/Lightroom tutorial type videos and it seemed a lot of people were buying both and starting to use lightroom for quick raw conversions and edits and then moving into ps for more detailed masking (though lr2 does some of that)
Honestly Adobe charges so freaking much for their software its hard to justify purchasing much of it unless you make money doing this.

pretty good so far.
tomatoes are doing good. whould you like to know what tom. varieties i went with this year? My peppers are coming along rather slow actually. Cucumbers are going crazy.. i had to spray some sevin on them the other day. Squash is a pain is the ass. Okra is fine. And the egg plants i planted for the first time are doing really nice. Overall, the garden is good.

btw the squash being a pain in the ass. let me just say HH
there is NOTHING like same day picked squash, boil it + add some cheese = awesome
gotta love the okra too….
currently my fav is to cut up a cucumber and dice a tomato, put a little salt on it + a good amt of ground pepper and pop it in the fridge for a couple of hours then eat it — filling + pretty healthy (if you go easy on the salt)

yes… that sounds so good with the cheese. I usualy add some onions when i boil the squash.
I always do okra with the tomatoes.. the stewed tomotoes with the okra is so good,
I’ll try that that cucumber and dice up the tom recipe. that does sound good.

boiling vegetables?
You should try steaming or sauteing that squah. You leave a lot of the nutrients in the water when you boil vegetables.
This is especially true of nutrient packed broccoli, which should never be boiled.
