Minors 6/17
Just underway is Carlos Pimentel's 13th start of the year. Mike Bianucci is back in the lineup, Cristian Santana isn't.
Meantime Tommy Hunter's OKC start is in the 4th. He's having a rough go, but see for yourself. He has registered a perfect 9-0 G-F ratio.
Later tonight Bleier goes for Bakersfield, and Michael Kirkman starts for the RoughRiders.
All of this, needless to say, comes courtesy of the great shroomer: http://www.my.calendars.net/farmprobs
And here's Z's latest writeup of the minors too, good stuff: http://rangersblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2009/06/wednesday-farm-roundup.html

The Hunter/Frostad battery
is not very good at holding baserunners. 6 stolen bases today against 1 caught.

Wow, BB using his old motion again,
at the recommendation of Mike Maddux, but using a different arm slot than in HS, IOW, the one the Rangers first taufgt him.

And getting off the plane in S.A.,
reminded him that he has been away from the Texas summer heat for three years…it kicked his ass. LOL

He paid off a bunch of his parents bills, bought a new auto,
and bought a 330 acre ranch by Pearland for hunting.
AA was his major goal for the year, his other life goal was to be in MLB by 21, but he is just letting the game come to him, at this time. Whatever happens, happens, and he knows he has a lot to improve on.
He has done a 180 since being drafted, by what I heard today. All the best to him, seems like a great young man.

Thanks for the summary
Glad to hear Blake has matured since his C-Wun days as the possessor of the filthiest slider he’d ever seen.

180
Indeed, he’s a damn solid citizen in every way nowadays. It’s one reason I’m pretty confident he’ll reach his potential. The boy is working his tail off.

What would you say his ceiling is?
Im more pro Beavan than a lot of ppl here i think. I really believe he could be solid number 2 guy in the majors

He could be. If his K rates continue to improve, there is definitely some reason to think he can be.
His control is so fine and his makeup on the rubber lends itself to good things i think.

I know
…beautiful start.
And Bleier, wow. More of these no-fly-ball-outs starts.

I'll stick with Rocky
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland - 2009 Rangers Minor League POY
At this point I really want Bleier to reach Arlington someday
Just so we can do this King Richard bit in the GDT’s. Hilarity.

Bleier
Not a guy who was winning me over, even as they promoted him out of Hickory.
In his last 6 starts, 41 IP…
3 BB.
Over all in Bakersfield:
53.2 IP
43:8 K:BB
2.22 G:F
In 2009 he’s allowed 2 HR (77.1 IP).
More upward pressure.

See
This is why I’m taking a big fat “show me” stance with him. When he was at Spokane he did a radio interview at the beginning of the season. He explained that nobody in his family has ever done anything athletic at all. It’s a very new thing for a Bleier to be outside running around an athletic field. The rest of the Bleiers tended toward academics and intellectualism. Really broke the family mold. Couple this with his unimpressive physical appearance and I’ve remained doubtful he can go very far on guile and determination. But, hey, so far so good.
A lot of pitchers
look like lumps, though. And on the talent thing, no one in my family can carry a tune in a bag, yet I’ve been all over the world playing, conducting, and working as a professional musician since I was 14. I agree that Bleier is not someone we should be counting on heading the rotation in Arlington soon, but not necessarily for the reasons you mentioned. Hell, Greg Maddux doesn’t look athletic to me, and he’s pretty smart, too.
