OT: College World Series 6/19
LSU vs Arkansas currently is 11-2 and Texas vs Arizona State (Mike Leake's chance to get back at Texas) all on ESPN 2
Texas/ASU game starts an hour after the LSU/Arkansas game ends
Probable starters: Mike Leake vs Cole Woods
Wow, what a beat down going into the 7th for LSU -- 11-0 going into bottom of 7 (Arkansas got 2)
Anyway... Hook 'em Horns -- should be a great game no matter who wins, if Texas wins they are in the 3 game Championship

Leake is pitching on 2 days rest
But he only threw 38 pitches last game I do believe…
Interesting fact about ASU:
They have the 2nd least amount of experience in all of D1 behind Oregon (who just started their baseball program last year). Not bad for the 5th overall seed…..

Leake and Kipnis.
I think JD’s doing this to spite all the "when we gon’ get sum pitchin’ in here" idiots.

He's done pretty well for a freshman
started about half the games with a .361/.516/.485 line (ASU’s park is an offensive one). Not sure what his D’s like though.

Leake
He threw 77 pitches in his previous outing against Texas. Of course, Josh Spence has thrown 250+ pitches in his two starts in Omaha, one on Saturday and one yesterday. My guess is he will throw again tomorrow, even if he doesn’t start, if ASU wins tonight. Even the best college coaches abuse their pitchers when it gets to the post season. They almost need to extend the college world series to protect the pitchers from their head coaches.

That's right
I couldn’t remember the pitch count…

Which is why I have no problem with us drafting high school pitchers
Sure, they are abused in high school and summer ball, but at least they have three years less of abuse if we get them at age 18 versus 21.

Leake
they say he’s pitching with tendonitis or whatever, but he still looks good.
Granted, he doesn’t have quite the sink, movement, or what not from that recoil.
As Garrido said, he’s a smart pitcher. He kept the ball out of the zone so long as they kept swinging at it. It was 2-2 last I checked so I could tell they made him work a little bit more as he tired.

Yeah 78 pitches on Tuesday will make you tired
It’s been somewhat odd to see Leake struggle a bit in the CWS. He’s been absolutely dominant all year, easily the 2nd best pitcher in college behind Strasburg.

I think he'll be a top of the rotation starter for a while.
Very impressed.

I don't think he has the stuff to be a front of the rotation guy
With his lack of velocity his margin of error is going to be real small. If he struggles at all with his location it is batting practice time (see what a light-hitting Texas lineup did to him on Tuesday). I think he is a middle of the rotation guy at best and if his control waivers at all, he is a back of the rotation guy.

Yeah he's 21
so interesting to think that UTHF has him done with improving.
If he could add even a tick or two to that heater, he’ll be fine.

Actually
I have seen five or six of his starts this year on television (If you have Fox College Sports you get Pac 10 games every weekend) and while his results have been awesome, his stuff is still not impressive. He is a guy with a sinker that sits around 90 mph and he is 5-10 and right-handed. He relies on expert location to get hitters out. Front of the rotation starters typically don’t have to be perfect to get hitters out. Sure, there is a chance he ends up a very good starter but I think the odds are that he will be a good, average starter in the big leagues. Not bad, but probably not worth the No. 8 pick in the draft.

I completely disagree
He sits 90-92 quite often. That’s plenty of velocity.

I guess we will just have to disagree
At least from what I have seen, he only hits 92-93 when he is throwing four-seamers up in the zone. His sinker seems to be high 80s and touches 90. I still think he will be a good MLB pitcher, I just think he is a middle of the rotation guy and that picking him No. 8 in the draft was too high. He was a mid first rounder to me.

Texas needs to get it together
I have no idea how the ASU relief pitcher usually gets hitters out, but today all he is doing is throwing 68 mph changeups two feet outside and getting wild swings and misses. If Texas just made him throw strikes, his 80 mph fastball would get hit hard.

He's got almost 100 k's on the year
it’s not a fluke..

I'm not saying it is a fluke
I am saying that I have no idea why people keep swinging at it.
And there you go, pitch right down the middle and hit about 430 feet.

And there is another pitch right down the middle that was crushed
Not much margin for error when your fastball is slower that most high school pitchers.

Texas vs. LSU
If Texas is going to beat LSU, they are going to need much better defense. Nine errors (and several more that should have been errors) is not going to cut it against a team that hits as well as LSU. Texas should have the advantage on the mound, but LSU clearly has the advantage at the plate and both teams have played great defense all season long (although Texas has struggled lately). My guess is that Texas goes with Ruffin in game one, Jungmann in two (if he doesn’t pitch in game one) and then Green in game three if it goes that long. One thing that worries me is that Brandon Workman, who was a starter most of the year but has been moved to the pen, has not thrown yet. I wish he could have gotten into a game so far, but it hasn’t worked out. Oh well, it should be a great series.
