With our beloved Rangers mired in what is a deep deep slump, I have been feeling quite blue. So with some advice from my mother, we decided to celebrate the blue's away this weekend at The Westin-La Cantera in north San Antonio, which I can say is the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. As an Austin resident, I hate San Antonio, but this part of the ass hole of Texas I can stand.
While there, I contimplated the meaning of this slump, the method behind the madness that is Wash, the collateral damage that will be felt by the team and management, and most importantly what this meant for me the fan.
In a lot of ways, it means nothing. You see, when I came into this season I was brimming with excitement because I knew that these Rangers were on the verge of success in a couple years, and the new pieces would be assembling themselves in order quickly. Remember those days when this season was just a stepping stone?
Well, what has ensued has been nothing short of amazing. An incredible start that has found its foundation in pitching, defense, average offense and Nolan Ryan's Holiness. As of late, we have been treated with more of what we expected from the start, average baseball, .500 at best, with a team that has many lessons to learn.
Should we be upset? Should we be angry? Is it such a horrible thing that the team lauded for its offense prowess and pitching retardation is now completely different than its history? When I look around Ranger nation, I see heads hung low for the fact that the lead has dwindled and the time is running short. What do I see? I see future... Promise... Talent fulfilled, and a team that has proven it belongs. Nobody, not a single team see's the Rangers as a doormat anymore. We are out of the dungeon and into the light, where a trip to the playoffs and a World Series are firmly within our grasps.
To start this year, we would never have dared to ask for such outragous things, such gifts of knowledge and hope. And now, we piss on them as if it is all taken away. But it is not, it is all still there. Ian, Michael, Elvis and Hammy still trot out of the clubhouse to sign autographs, and that same group still sprints on to the field (minus hammy) ready to take on whatever challenge greats them that night.

This team, this organization has done so much in so little time that they deserve better than to be shit on like rats in a drain. I for one, think that the journey we began back in the early cold morning of April is not over yet, but in fact it is just starting now. The engine has started, the road ahead is clear, now we all get to sit back and enjoy the ride. Slumping, yes. Over, no. Future, brighter than it has ever been.

Thanks for the smile.
Things are going to get better.
Now I know what it's like to be an Oakland/Seattle fan...
Our team can go out there and give up only 2 runs and still lose the game. I almost feel sorry for those fans now.

Ranger Nation?
not a big fan of the “nation” Boston has played that out
why not just go all out and call it the Republic of Texas?
