If you would have told me Byrd...

would bat cleanup once this year at the beginning of the season, I would have instantly got Firefox to put you on ignore.

This will be the game that turns things around for this offense.

Marlon Byrd gets his turn in the cleanup spot tonight as manager Ron Washington tries to take the pressure off Nelson Cruz. Washington said Cruz is swinging for the fences a little too much while Byrd has been the Rangers’ best hitter with two outs and runners in scoring position.

has byrd really been their best hitter with two outs and runners in scoring position?

I think that’s like the opposite.

2 Out

by lost in space on Jun 23, 2009 8:17 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Just checking them against Cruz

They are two different hitters. OPS wise Cruz is better with RISP but Byrd has a much better average which probably evens things out. With 2 out they are very similar OPS wise but Byrd has about a 120 point edge in batting average.

OT: iPhone/touch baseball game

Theres a homerun derby baseball game called baseball slugger that came out in the last week or so and is really good. Not simple standard HR derby but with point bonuses for hitting it to certain areas/distance and special stuff plus a full assortment of pitches thrown. Good 3d graphics.

Also has unlockable customization stuff and an online vs mode where you see the other guy in a little PIP window. Very fun, if anyone has it/buys it and wants to play a vs match let me know.

go team go!

Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was on the same pitching staff with Danny Darwin during the 1986 through 1988 seasons. Both were described by Milo Hamilton as "tall, tough Texans." It was a source of debate amongst Astros players and fans over who would win in a fight, Ryan or Darwin. Though Astros pitcher Bob Knepper attempted to set up a fight between the two during spring training in 1988, manager Hal Lanier stopped it before it could commence. Many experts, including Astros shortstop Rafael Ramirez, felt that Darwin would win because he "looked like someone no man would want to mess with."
