Well, point is, it doesn't really give me any more confidence heading into tomorrow than if we had lost.

Superb effort by Padilla and the bullpen, but we’re not gonna pitch like Cy Young every night. Still gotta learn to score runs again, and we gotta do it before the series with Angels on Monday.

I’m happy we won, but we’re a long way from okay.

Compared to how they've batted recently...

They worked Haren for almost 120 pitches in 7 innings.

That’s atleast a mini-improvement I think. Last week, he would’ve made it through those same 7 innings on 90 pitches or less cause we were swinging at more crap.

Stay at the corners and you’ll get some borderline strike calls, some swings and misses, some ball calls and some ground balls. That explains the walks and the strikeouts and why he can get outs.

Pretty nice game?

He hit a ground ball with eyes up the middle that bounced 46 times and had a walk.

I’d have to think long and hard but I can’t remember any team sticking with any player (260 ab’s before July 1), muchless a first basemen in the AL, with an OBP hovering around .250 as long as the Rangers have with Crush.

Maybe there is some light-hitting, slick fielding middle infielder or catcher that has been given that many ab’s but I can’t remember one, especially in the AL.

it was improvement

and 1-3 with a walk, forcing the pitchers to throw a total of about 28 pitches during his 4 at bats, is VERY nice. his only out in the final 3 at bats was a line shot the other way.

shaq can't stop dwight howard

and what they really need is some outside shooting. at this point shaq isn’t going to draw the double team and he might get open for a few but really you are going to count on his passing in the post. i dont’ see how a team of him and lebron functions. if this is the cavs only move, then they took a step backwards. they’re going to have to come up with a way to play both lebron and shaq together and when they don’t come up with anything, you’ll see a fractured team and a guarantee that lebron is going to brooklyn (although that might already be the case).

by DShep on Jun 24, 2009 11:47 PM CDT up reply actions

well

i guess that’s accurate. but still, they probably needed an athletic scorer and instead they went with shaq.

Eh, I don't buy that.

With Delonte West and Mo Williams, you have your outside shooting and scorers (Gibson off the bench), but undersized at the 2. Lebron at the 3 leaves you with two big men. Shaq being one would help even in a reduced role. Maybe he and Ilgauskas can play tandem C.

J.J. Hickson is 6’9, athletic, and only 20. Give him a year.

I didn't mean it as watching the drunken violence.

Going to see a game live and watching people truly get into a sport sometimes helps people get into a sport and want to learn more about it.

I fell in love with soccer in June 2002

I was at TGI Friday’s… having a drink at the bar. It was like 1.30a. The place was packed with people, and all the T.V.’s were on the U.S.-South Korea match.

Everybody was so into it. Went bonkers when Mathis scored a goal. Brad Friedel made some awesome saves. The bar let people stick around a little bit after closing time before one of the halves ended. Hardly anyone had left.

It felt cool to watch late night-sports drama even if it was a sport I had never really followed closely.

The next morning I was glued to Univision… watching match after match…

What I don't like about hockey and soccer

is it just feels too random for a shot to happen to make it through. Like if baseball were made up completely of solo homeruns.. no real buildup, momentum, minutes long tense situations with the bases loaded or whatever. It just seems like they do the same thing and 1 out of 20 or whatever the goalie happens to not get a hand on it.

Obviously thats oversimplifying and exaggerating, just saying..

the preceding post was a great success.
