Byrd takes Conte’s supplements without apology
My apologies if this was posted yet.
Gist of it is that Byrd is the only MLB player taking supplements created by balco founder victor conte.
"Conte has provided the Texas Rangers center fielder with a variety of pills and powders for 18 months. Not once has Byrd asked Conte whether any of it could trigger a positive drug test.
From article:
"I didn’t need to," Byrd said. "From our conversations, there was no need to ask."

Well
It doesn’t seem to be helping much this year.
Get on base or die, Salty.

I assume he's been tested
and passed, so, who cares?

not accusing
it’s just brave.
Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was on the same pitching staff with Danny Darwin during the 1986 through 1988 seasons. Both were described by Milo Hamilton as "tall, tough Texans." It was a source of debate amongst Astros players and fans over who would win in a fight, Ryan or Darwin. Though Astros pitcher Bob Knepper attempted to set up a fight between the two during spring training in 1988, manager Hal Lanier stopped it before it could commence. Many experts, including Astros shortstop Rafael Ramirez, felt that Darwin would win because he "looked like someone no man would want to mess with."

can you argue with this?
Even one as checkered as Conte’s. Two years ago, the Rangers instructed pitcher Scott Feldman(notes) to dispose of Proglycosyn he’d obtained from SNAC after a reporter saw it in his locker. "Our doctors say there may not be anything wrong with [Conte’s products], but there’s no sense having yourself associated with the name at this point," general manager Jon Daniels said at the time.
i guess you can, but it makes sense

Man I don't care about this crap at all
I think they should all be shooting up whatever makes them a better player. If they want to risk their health taking stuff like this, fine. Just win, baby.

Yeah
I applaud Byrd for trying. I think instead of just banning all this crap they should be testing the hell out of it to find out what is most effective and which products are most harmful to your health. Educate players on the risks vs. benefits with mandatory sessions and testing (no drugs unless you’ve been educated thoroughly on what you’re taking) and let them go with it.
