Michael Jackson has died.

http://www.tmz.com/

We've just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.

A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived.

LaToya ran in the hospital sobbing, after Jackson was pronounced dead.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was on the same pitching staff with Danny Darwin during the 1986 through 1988 seasons. Both were described by Milo Hamilton as "tall, tough Texans." It was a source of debate amongst Astros players and fans over who would win in a fight, Ryan or Darwin. Though Astros pitcher Bob Knepper attempted to set up a fight between the two during spring training in 1988, manager Hal Lanier stopped it before it could commence. Many experts, including Astros shortstop Rafael Ramirez, felt that Darwin would win because he "looked like someone no man would want to mess with."

Does it matter.

HE was convicted on the kidnapping/weapons charges in Nevada. It is widely believed that he killed Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman, but his trial came on the hills of the ’93 Rodney King LA Police Brutality roits, and the jurors were afraid of another riot. Especially after the tape of Mark Furman openly using the “N” word in regards to Simpson.

Aquitted DOES NOT equate to innocent.

I don't think the jury was afraid

I think they prosecution and the PD fucked up the case, and Simpson’s lawyers were good enough to get him off. For all I know he did it, but they didn’t prove it beyond a reasonable doubt, at least to the jury.

by Black Francis on Jun 25, 2009 6:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, it was never really proven either way

It has to be beyond a shadow of a doubt for a criminal conviction. It only has to be a “preponderance of evidence” in civil court, as we saw with his losing the wrongful death suit.

by Inkara1 on Jun 25, 2009 6:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Really
It has to be beyond a shadow of a doubt for a criminal conviction.

I always thought, and was taught in the police academy, that a criminal only requires that the jurors believe that they vote to convict only if the prosecution has proven “beyond reasonable doubt” that the accused committed the crime for which they are charged. Adam may correct me, but “beyond reasonable doubt” means only means beyond the doubt of a reasonable person.

I don’t think the jury was afraid
I think they prosecution and the PD fucked up the case, and Simpson’s lawyers were good enough to get him off.

IIRC, the jurors that agreed to be interviewed after the trial hinted that the South Central riots were heavily on their minds as they argued whether to convict.

Mark Fehrman, Simpsons attorneys and the make up of the jury led to the dismissal of the mountain of evidence.

I don't disagree with BF that the prosecution F'd up...

I was forced to watch most of the trial, and the prosecution bored people to death with entirely too much DNA, scientific, and forensic evidence. Add to that, the murder weapon was never found.

Don't squeeze the juice!

The jurors did not hint at the riots were on their minds as they deliberated. May have been asked by a reporter, but unless they revised comments years later, that was not the case.

However, one of the most influential jury instructions given to this jury was something along the lines of “when presented with two conflicting arguments, but both seem equally plausible, you must go with the argument that supports innocence”. That is a very rough paraphrasing of the instruction, but you get the idea.

Nevertheless, the perception floated out there is that “a black jury ignored the evidence and let a killer go free based on race to send a message and/or to right some injustice delivered to black people in the past”. This is the biggest pile of dog poopie I have ever heard, but I hear it all the time.

One example is that there was an elderly white woman on the Simpson jury who once served on another jury. When that jury went into deliberations, they took the initial vote on guilt/innocence and it was 11 not guilty and 1 guilty. Well, that woman was the guilty vote, and from that point during deliberations, she made her case and swayed all of the other jurors to vote guilty. She fought for what she believed and convinced the other 11 to change their votes to guilty. Yes, this woman was on the Simpson jury and also voted not guilty.

Not to rehash the entire case, but anybody who truly watched that entire trial would have had to vote not guilty. The prosecutors may have messed up, and the defense attorneys may have played their best game, but the reasons he was acquitted were numerous, and race certainly wasn’t it. If Fuhrman would have admitted to using the N-word when asked, believe it or not, they would have still voted not guilty. The prosecutions case did not make sense, would change, and that was not entirely their fault. Some actions by the investigators and criminalists just made it too hard to believe that you could convict Simpson based on what they provided. The reasons he was acquitted:

- The timeline NEVER made sense. (Too many details to go into)

- Simpson’s blood on back gate was not collected until at least 3 weeks after the murders (after crime scene had been washed down) At time of collection, picture was taken of blood stain on gate. Defense showed a police photograph of the same spot on the gate on the day of the murders, and there was no blood stain there. Criminalist admitted he couldn’t find it on the photo and it was clear to anybody that it was not there.

- The blood on the socks in Simpson’s bedroom. These dark socks were collected on the day of the murders. They were inspected 3 separate times by the criminalists/crime lab and all 3 times noted as “no blood” and “no blood apparent”. Almost 3 months after the murder, one of the Criminalists was asked to inspect the socks again, and surprise, they find blood on the socks. Amazing, huh?

- Both the blood on the gate and the socks, even after weeks and weeks of exposure before collecting the blood, had more DNA available (not degraded) than any blood collected immediately the day of the murders. Low and behold, there was a blood preservative in the blood from those stains, which is used in test tubes holding blood samples.

- Suprisingly, out of 8 cc’s of blood collected from Simpson, 1.5 cc’s were missing. Also, a Criminalist for LAPD admitted spilling Simpson’s blood sample in the lab while processing blood swatches for the Bundy crime scene. Oops! Possible contamination. And just for good measure, the blood spilled WAS accounted for and after adding that amount in, there was still 1.5 cc’s missing.

- One of the detectives admitted that after collecting Simpson’s blood sample, he did not book it into evidence IN THE SAME BUILDING, but rather put it in his pocket, unsealed, and took it out to the criminalists at the crime scene, except only about 3 hours after arriving there.

- One detective lied in his submission for a search warrant, and it was blatant, to the point of the judge stated on the record that the information he provided in the search warrant was wreckless disregard for the truth. Another detective took Simpson’s shoes as evidence, but did he book it with the evidence? No, he took the shoes home with him, which was about 2 hours away.

- Not one of the detectives mentioned above was Fuhrman. But did Fuhrman lie about anything except using the N-word? You bet. (Personally, I believe he lied about other things, but they were not proven) When questioned about the glove(s) and the suggestion that he planted the glove at Simpson’s estate, he had stated that he had not had access to the glove(s) prior to going to Simpson’s estate, and that a picture of him pointing to a glove at the murder scene was after he returned from Simpson’s home. Well, in comes the LAPD photographer with photo sheets which shows the order/timing of the photographs, and low and behold he states that the picture was taken about 0420 and was demonstrated by the contact sheet. But that wasn’t good enough, he goes on to say that he runs into to Fuhrman, who is alone at the crime scene, and Fuhrman asks him to take the picture of Fuhrman pointing to the glove, all before Fuhrman leaves for Simpson’s home.

- Don’t even get me started on the gloves.

- But what was the most important part of the Fuhrman tapes? Was it they prove he used the N-word, despite denying it? Nope. Was it they have his voice talking about planting evidence in other cases? Nope. The most important part of the Fuhrman tapes was his comment on the Simpson case itself, which was something to the effect of “I’m the star witness in the Trial of the Century. If I go down, the glove goes bye bye.”
Was this accurate? Not exactly, in terms of evidence. Fuhrman never had to be called to introduce the glove into evidence. What does it mean then???

Enough of that shit, but I guess I got my feathers ruffled seeing some of the comments regarding the case. Not because of anything but lack of knowledge regarding the case, and I don’t blame anyone but the media for purpetuating some myths about the case. A person will never understand unless they take the time to study the case. Until that time, they will be stuck with the sound bytes and comments that “a black jury was mad at a racist cop and ignored the rest of the evidence, thus letting a murderer go free.”

The more I remember about it, your take makes sense.

It was going on when I was 18 or 19 years old. I really didn’t care much about it. Never gave a shit about football. Knew who OJ was but that was it. Never really saw the fascination.

At the same time you COULD NOT get away from it. It was on the news all the time. I think the whole trial was broadcast. I was working at a Sam’s Club back then and going to TCJC across the street. The manager of that Sam’s Club eventually got fired because he would stay up in the break room all day, smoke cigarettes, and watch that damn trial. If you needed him for anything you had to go up there and hear all about it and even sit there and watch it with him. It was crazy.

But anyway, people started forming opinions. He’s guilty. Well I’ve always been one of these contrarian types (can you believe that) so finally even I started watching some of it.

Since then I’d forgotten many of the details but your post brought some of them back for better or worse. I’d add that the DA’s office was just over matched. In addition to the shitty police work (or crooked police work if you want to take it a step further), they were just no match for that defense team.

I still kind of think he did it. LAPD just wanted to make extra sure to make it look like he did, though, and fucked it all up. So he’s free, and do I care? Yeah. I’m glad he’s free. If you’re going to prosecute someone for murder, you should have to prove the goddamn case. It was just.

It was a source of debate amongst Astros players and fans over who would win in a fight, Ryan or Darwin.

The problem with MJ...

wasn’t MJ. He was a child in a man’s body. Reports, for years, have detailed how that his father, Joe Jackson, never allowed any of the Jackson children to have a childhood, and it severly warped MJ’s mental make-up.

I used to sit in front of the tv for hours waiting for MTV to play the “Thriller” video. I have that album on vinyl. I could have recited those lyrics by heart. No matter what he became later or how strange I thought his lifestyle was, his music was part of the soundtrack of my youth.

I am surprised at how upset I am by this.

I was never a huge Michael Jackson fan, but wow, his music was such a HUGE part of my childhood. One of my clearest memories is – no lie – of me and my friends watching the entirety of the Thriller video at the roller skating rink in Rosenberg, Texas. This would probably have been in 86 or 87 or so.

I’m feeling a revision to my daily iTunes playlist.

I'm wondering if I'm the only guy who's thinking that Karma finally caught up to this guy

I’m not old enough to remember “MJ the singer” and all I’ve ever really remembered MJ for is a guy who had a ton of surgeries, acted like a child and mostly likely was physically attracted to them as well.

by Bezekira on Jun 26, 2009 9:03 AM CDT reply actions

Yeah, that's kind of my take as well

I’ll admit, I never even paid any attention to his music – the guy always struck me as so goddamn creepy, I never really wanted to. It’s too bad for him and his family he had to go at a relatively young age, but as screwed up as he seemed I can’t say I’m particularly surprised or saddened.

Those of us

who were around before he was creepy can understand how huge he was during the “Off the Wall”, “Thriller”, “Bad” days. Pretty much “Beat it” with Eddie Van Halen’s guitar riff was the first song from a black musician that I recall getting heavy rotation on MTV.

A lot of us also recall when he was lead singer for the Jackson 5ive when he was 10 or so. Kid had amazing talent for his age.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfJu_Bom2sA

It’s a shame his unbelievable talent isn’t what folks remember, because he so overshadowed it with his even more unbelievable wierdness.

FWIW

I don’t believe he was actually “attracted” to children. Launching into stardom at a young age, I think he missed out on his own childhood. As a result, I think he was drawn to children, not because he was sexually attracted to them but because he was trying to find his own youth. I admit he was messed up in the 90s, but I do not think that should supercede the mark he left on the music business.

it seems that a lot of folks who “grow up” in show business have trouble with reality.

Michael Jackson was singing in strip clubs at 8 years old. Its not real surprising he was not normal as an adult.
