Milton Bradley Drama

Milton apparently threw his helmet after he flied out in his AB in the 6th, and broke a water cooler.  Pinella benched him, and there were words.  They interviewed Pinella and he still seemed a little wound up.

So the question is, if the Cubs put Bradley up on the market for bargain prices and were willing to pick up some of his contract, would you be interested?

My suspicion is because of the Tom Hicks financial situation, it would be tough to make a deal work.

He is still owed over $23 million over the next 2 and a half years

There is no way that they would pick up enough salary to make it feasible.

Going to be a decent move

for whoever can afford to pick up a DH.

I dont think many teams would be willing to pick up that contract

If the cubs want him gone they either eat some money or give him away

Padilla him

I think he would clear waivers right now, just like Padilla did. That contract is just so much more than any reasonable team would be willing to take on, even if it cost nothing in terms of prospects to acquire him.

There's more to the picture than meets the eye.

What good does that do?

You think he’d care?

Yeah

Hes still gets his money no matter what and hes signed for 2 more years after this. With Padilla his contract is up after this year so there is incentive for him to do better

If it was totally unworkable they might.

Just like with Andruw Jones.

If the situation has deteriorated to the point where they need to get rid of him, I could see them paying half that contract to be rid of the headache.

Cause certainly no one is gonna take him without the Cubs kicking in a substantial amount of dollars.

That contract was so retarded.

An NL team signing Bradley was bad enough, but combine that witht the fact that they are managed by a notorious hotheaded douche like Pinella and there was no way this was going to end well.

And...

how many games has he played in this year? How many PA’s does he have?

The guy has imploded again in Chicago. I’m not sure how you can see it any other way.

That's what kind of sad

He’s imploded, but his OBP would still be useful on our team.

HELL TO THE NOOOOOO

this is a guy that admittedly DOGGED it last year because he was on a 1 year deal?? WHY IN THE HELL WOULD YOU WANT HIM BACK? he is a bad dude

by blueballlefty on Jun 26, 2009 10:53 PM CDT reply actions

Well, he did kind of anchor the lineup last year

We need somebody like him if we want to be the long shot in the playoffs this year. But I agree, we don’t need him.

Because its amazing

how well bad dudes behave in the Rangers clubhouse. Milton, Carl Everett, …

As Nolan said the other day, Milton brings a dimension most Rangers don’t have. He rarely gets himself out, and thats not something you can say about most of the Rangers at the plate.

I took a half a day

cause i’ve got to leave for charleston, sc on monday the 29 and will be gone for 10 days

i turned on the tv to check in on the white sox vs cubs game and saw on wgn after the game.. the postgame show interview with lou piniella press conf. he said he was going to start bradley tom. go figure

NO

He’s not the same guy as he was last year. It seems like after getting that new deal he’s reverted back to all of his worst qualities: injury prone, jackass, no defense. Maybe he and Hammy’s prayer circles kept him in check, but there’s not a deity out there that can fix his back and knees.

That's why they call them business sox

I suspect

that if you plug him in this clubhouse, he’ll go back to being the Bradley we knew.

You would obviously have the advantage of plugging him in at DH.

I think the money aspect is the thing that keeps it from happening though.

I agree that he would probably behave in Texas

Many of us on here ( including me ) dont like to give Wash much credit for anything but maybe he deserves credit for hs handling of Boardgame. If the Cubbies Andruw Jonesed him I would love to see him back. He is a great DH and I think his plate patience rubbed off om people last year. IMO he has been missed greatly this year.

Having said that – What were the Cubs thinking? That was an insane contrct especially from a NL team.

Bradley

You’re probably right. I read comments from him that he just doesnt have anyone he can talk to or vent with in the clubhouse there.
That the 2 guys he could got fired or traded.

Maybe he'll be less of a jackass here

but he’s always been an injury waiting to happen, even as a DH. My guess is that contract is not movable and he’s stuck in the NL, forcing him to be in the outfield. He may get lucky and make it back to the Al in a few seasons, but I doubt he’ll have much left in the tank.

Not worth the money or the trouble

We let him walk at exactly the right time.

exactly

$4 million dollars for one year of Milton Bradley netted us elite, but sporadic DH production and the pick we grabbed Scheppers with. What a great signing and farewell.

why would Lou do that?

so zambrano can act like a total ass every day and its cool, Sori can pick daisies in left field and its never a problem, but boardgame? he’s told to leave the stadium. if i was boardgame, i would tell Sweet Lou to shove it up his ass
