Texas Rangers To Place Matt Harrison on DL; Recall Tommy Hunter
The Rangers will place LHP Matt Harrison on the DL for the second time this season Sunday and will recall Tommy Hunter to replace him in the starting rotation on Sunday. It’s uncertain whether Hunter would get more than one start since the Rangers have an off day on Thursday and could juggle the rotation leading up to the All-Star break.
Harrison, who spent three weeks on the DL with shoulder soreness earlier this month, is returning with soreness in the shoulder/biceps area. He has struggled in two starts since returning from the first stint on the DL. Most recently, he allowed Arizona, which ranks 15th of 16 teams in the NL in batting average, seven hits, four walks and seven runs in 3.2 innings on Tuesday.
I guess Mike E was correct.

If it was some OT thing or minor point you'd win
But this is fanpost level material.

when it involves one of the starters getting injured, it deserves to be a fanpost

Well I have no confidence in Hunter
But harrison has to be on top of his game to be good and obviously he isn’t right now so whatever.
Just reminds me again that we were lucky noone claimed Padilla, then things would be getting ugly with Mathis starts and such.
Unrelated but I hope Frankie doesn’t end up back on the DL too, that would be.. worse.
the preceding post was a great success.

spot start
RW is saying that it is just a one time spot start. It will be intereting to see who takes Harry’s spot in the rotation the next time it comes up.

i agree
with Eyre and Feliz in the pen, it makes it possible for Jennings to slide into the rotation. He’s proven to be very durable in the pen thus far. It will be interesting to see if he can stay healthy in the rotation. The question is, would he stay there for good or not. I would think so if they make the move

I wonder if they'll go with a Jennings/Feliz tandem start that game then

I would think Jennings could go 4 easy, or they wouldn't be mentioning this
as a possibility
And then 2 for Happy.

Jennings has been able to go 3 innings this season without doing poorly
I think stretching him out a bit and having him expected to go 4 innings shouldn’t be much of a problem. 5 is what I think would be pushing it unless he is dominating. Feliz we know can go the distance so expecting him to go a few innings also shouldn’t be that much of a problem.

Their not converting Feliz
into a middle reliever…
by Goyogringo on Jun 27, 2009 5:07 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
..thats what Holland did before moving him into the rotation.
the preceding post was a great success.
by DSheppard on Jun 27, 2009 5:14 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
All indications are
that they are going to use him as a setup guy, that is, from what they have said and with respect to what they are doing with him. A couple of issues to chew on here, 1. Why convert a frontline starter prospect who throws 100mph into a middle reliever, pitching in situations that Jennings, Eyre, MAthis and Grilli are pitching in now? If that is what you think they are doing with their #1 prospect, then you should be pissed at their short-sightedness. This is clearly what they are _not_doing. 2. He is not Holland: they do not intend to bring him up to start in 4-6 weeks as they explicitly stated would be their intention with Holland. Holland didnt’ have to adjust to his role in the pen as a middle and long reliever and never had to pitch on back to back days. Instead, they are transitioning Feliz the pen to work in late inning situations on back to back days before he gets promoted. They are looking for him to be a RH setup guy that they don’t want to have to trade for.
by Goyogringo on Jun 27, 2009 5:33 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
There is a huge difference between breaking him in as a middle reliever
and turning him into a middle reliever. noone thinks they are trying to make him a middle reliever.

You've failed to address the main point
which has nothing to do with the meaning of two gerunds…
by Goyogringo on Jun 27, 2009 5:39 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I fail to care
The idea was that if they decide to go with Jennings they may pair him with Feliz as Jennings gets stretched out and Feliz transitions to the pen. Thats a couple week role while both get accustomed and is not mutually exclusive to him being a setup reliever for the rangers beyond that. Its not converting him to anything and thats all that needs to be addressed.
the preceding post was a great success.

You fail to address any point at all.
the preceding post was a great success.
by DSheppard on Jun 27, 2009 5:48 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
It wouldn't be converting him into a middle reliever
It would be using him as a middle reliever in a specific situation due to an injury. You aren’t crushing the kid’s development in any way by having him pitch more than one inning.

I think there are 4 options.
Nippert’s rehab assignment is up in about a week. Someone else will have to come off the 40, or Nippert will have to be let go.
Guillermo Moscoso is already on the 40.
Tommy Hunter is also on the 40, and I don’t think he should be ruled out as the fill-in.
Jason Jennings.

Generally, Minor League rehab assignments for Major League pitchers can last up to 30 days (as opposed to 20 days for position players), pursuant to Rule 9(f) of the Major League Rules.

funny I just googled that article too
I wonder if they stuff related to the 1-1 game reduction of up to 10days will matter in this case…I think he has been in Arlington the whole time rather than in surprise…

but he needs another start or two to get stretched out after sitting on the bench for so long. He only went 5ip his first start back…
