Happy birthday, Jose Alberro
Happy birthday to Jose Alberro, who turns 40 today.
Alberro was a righty pitcher who came up through the Ranger system and pitched 58 innings from 1995 through 1997 for Texas. He didn't have much success -- he walked 36 hitters and struck out just 23 during that time -- and was eventually claimed on waivers in August, 1997, by the Yankees, although he never pitched in the majors for them.

Wow
This is eerie. I was just looking at my case of Rangers team baseball cards circa 1995 and Alberro’s rookie card was the one in the back of the case. For some reason I read his card before you posted this. According to the card he was "The Rangers’ closer of the future, Jose made the Opening Day roster in ’95 after ranking second in the Puerto Rican Winter League in saves. "
I remember him
Didn’t he have a killer split? Couldn’t control his fastball though and I don’t think he had much else.
I remember Alberro well...
I always had such high expectations for him. I was like 11 or 12 when he came up. His wind-up reminded me of Pedro a little. Had a very smooth delivery, but came from a 3/4-sidearm delivery. I remember when the Yanks claimed him, I was worried that he’d end up being a real stud and we would regret letting him go. I was a little off on that one.
I guess my talent evaluation is a little off. I thought Colby Lewis was gonna be a stud as well….
Good ol #48
From the days of Hector Fajardo and Bruce Hurst… nice.
Rivalries aside, RIP Nick Adenhart 04/09/2009.
