by lost in space on Jun 29, 2009 6:52 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

JDs explanation per insidecorner....
"I think what we’ve done has been just the opposite of panic," Rangers GM Jon Daniels said. "There are a lot of organizations that would have made changes a long time ago with both the lineup and the personnel. We really haven’t done anything. But we’re sitting here three months into the season and, aside from the first three weeks of the year, we haven’t been productive. It’s been a tw0-month slump. We’re trying to make adjustments and create a spark without being disruptive."

"This isn’t about singling anybody out," Daniels said. "Weve got nine guys in the lineup who haven’t performed up to their abilities lately. We’ve been patient and we’ll continue to do so. But the bottom line is we need more production out of the lineup."

My guess is that the thing implied here is that our power hitting DHs better snap out of it or they will find themselves in release waivers, maybe as soon as after the ASB.

I don't think that is the same

The excitement of being called up the the big leagues probably plays a huge factor in this.

How would you have felt if we were up a run late in the game and it changes because he misplays a ball in the OF? If this was a game against the Indians or Royals then he probably would be out there. But since this series is probably one of the most important series in the last several years I am fine letting a guy who just got called up to the big leagues a couple hours ago have an extra day to get used to a very unique OF

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

I don't know

Someone in the other thread gave a pretty good explanation though. Maybe we didn’t want to mess with 1-5 in this important series and Elvis has 9 locked down so 6,7,8 is all you got to work with. Maybe having a guy with Borbons speed on the bases in front of Davis and Salty will help them get better pitches to hit or get a guy in scoring position for them to drive in.

I really don’t know. If he starts hitting 6th on a regular basis I will be right next to you bitching about it. But for one night I will let it slide.

by bigsteve on Jun 29, 2009 7:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

why

if its such an important game you dont want him misplaying a ball in the OF why do you give him another AB (when he has ZERO MLB ABs) over even salty/davis/elvis

KG: Oh yeah.

How many times do I have to say I don't know

Cause I don’t. But on the list of concerns about the Rangers right now. Borbon hitting 6th is about number 15. By the time I get to worrying about it he will probably be back to hitting 8th,9th, or 1st so it won’t really matter

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by bigsteve on Jun 29, 2009 7:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Posted this late in Borbon thread, but here's my thoughts on why Borbon is batting 6th...

Wash used ink when filling out his lineup card today, started writing Blalock’s name in the 6 hole as the DH, then after writing the B, remembered Borbon was coming in. Since it’s Wash, he didn’t think fo the easy conclusion of getting a new lineup card, and since he used a pen rather than a pencil, he thought he had to continue with the B and put Borbon at #6.

I think we can all agree that the Borbon move is a warning shot to our current DH.

It isn’t a bonehead Washington move. One of those two have about 5 days to start hittin’ and the other better start packin’. It will be a little like getting voted of the island.

I wonder how Wash went about telling Hank and AJ they were out of the lineup tonight? I bet that was an interesting conversation. The response to that conversation alone might dictate which one is gone by this weekend.

go team go!!!!!!!

Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was on the same pitching staff with Danny Darwin during the 1986 through 1988 seasons. Both were described by Milo Hamilton as "tall, tough Texans." It was a source of debate amongst Astros players and fans over who would win in a fight, Ryan or Darwin. Though Astros pitcher Bob Knepper attempted to set up a fight between the two during spring training in 1988, manager Hal Lanier stopped it before it could commence. Many experts, including Astros shortstop Rafael Ramirez, felt that Darwin would win because he "looked like someone no man would want to mess with."

I don’t care if its hypocritical to sit him defensively hit him higher in the order. It doesn’t make hitting him high in the order actually any worse or better.

Go back and read the fucking thread retard

Plenty of people have given logical reasons. They may not be the best ideas but they are logical. Stop fucking worrying about where Julio fucking Borbon is hitting and start worrying about why our MVP 2B can only hit pop ups and why our entire team can’t fucking hit. Julio Borbons batting place should be the least of your worries as a Ranger fan.

And if you want the real answer why don’t you go ask the manager who fills out the lineup card and voice all the questions to him. Cause im sure you and your internet fandom know so much more about the game than he does.

logically

if you are going to put rookies in positions to do well , putting them 1) in a psoition where they have never hit and 2) DHing them does not really equally putting them in a place where they can do their best

he shouldnt be hitting sixth, and i doubt he ever hits sixth as a MLB player again for the rest of his career

Since when do players hit in the same lineup spot right out of AAA?

If we bring up smoak and hit him 6th is he going to lose it because hes used to 3rd or wherever we are hitting him?

When borbon is up at the plate he doesn’t think omg im hitting 6th what am I going to do, its the same freakin game. Batting order matters in team run production, not individual hitting. And the 7-9 sucks at hitting lately so who cares.

so you throw them in a situation your unfamiliar with?

ill never forget moving from 6 to 2 in my lineup in HS, it took a week to adjust to in game even if the differences were minute. you try to ease guys into the majors. like we tried so terribly at with holland. batting in a position in the order they never have and having them DH when they never have all in the same game, as a debut no less, is bad management. even if you try to justify it, you will still admit its unconventional at best and a questionable to bad management call at most.

You obviously lack reading comprehension...

DShep asked you:
“And if they see mighty taylor teagarden behind him they are going to pipe him a fastball down the middle? " in reference to Tea hitting behind Cruz in the 6 hole instead…you instead take it off more on the fact that Borbon is hitting 6th.

Right now, teams are going to pitch around Cruz when it makes sense regardless of who is hitting behind him because none of Borbon, Tea, Andrus, and Davis are going to pose as much of a threat.

I really don’t see why hitting him 6th is setting him up to fail. He still has to exercise plate discipline and try to make contact wherever he hits in the order. And he could end up hitting with the bases loaded in any spot in the order. I personally wouldn’t bat him 6th, but I don’t see batting him there as dooming him to failure either.

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

If they had Davis, TT, and Elvis as they have been this year I bet you would

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

If Cruz is 5th then yes Borbon would be behind Cruz tonight

tonight being the key word

lol

not possible. The 6th spot in the order is the most fucking important spot in the line-up and the exact opposite of hitting leading off.

hitting leadoff and hitting sixth

are pretty fucking far apart when it comes to mindset

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Yes, because in the 6th spot you have to bat one handed...

while in the leadoff spot you can use both hands.

you think that mindset-wise

hitting leadoff and hitting sixth are anywhere near the same?

SERIOUSLY?

Outside of the 1st inning...

No. So at most you’re talking about around 1/4 of his at bats being different than every other at bat. Jeez, that’s seriously going to fuck him up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Record

He does hold the career record (at least tied) for most LOBs/PA, thanks to his hitting 6th.

Of course, with our lineup, it’s pretty much the same hitter 4-9 so it doesn’t really matter…
