The 6-3 "Other People's Trades" Minors Thread
Three pretty good prospects going tonight for the Rangers.
At 7, Kasey Kiker takes on the Tulsa Drillers, who he faced his last time out - when he lasted 3 2/3 due to high pitch counts. He will face a Tulsa lineup that's one of the worst in the Texas league.
At about 10 minutes later, Guillermo Moscoso takes on a veteran Memphis squad who is quite a tough matchup. I look forward to seeing how Julio Borbon perform for this team as well.
At 9:05, LSB mascot Blake Beavan will take on an ice-cold Visalia Raw Hide team.
Discussion: The Nate McLouth trade
Wow. Did anyone see this coming? The Pirates trade Nate McLouth to the Braves for Gorkys Hernandez (one of the best defensive CFs in the minors last year), Jeff Locke (a lefty with good stuff), and extraneous starter Charlie Morton. This opens up a spot in the Pirates OF for Andrew McCutchen, but I can't help but think that the Pirates did not get optimal value for a player coming off of a very good season, and was still cheap. How does this deal compare with some of the other deals made in the last few years? Is there a more boom or bust OF alignment than Jose Tabata, Gorkys Hernandez and Andrew McCutchen?
Will this officially signal an early start to the trading season? Will it drive a team like the Mets to make a move to keep up?

IM lazy, but how many years does Mclouth have til he reaches FA
this makes sense for the braves, they needed this help especially after demoting Schafer. The amount years McLouth has til he reaches FA would be the determining factor on whether or not that deal makes sense for the Pirates

He just signed
a 3 year, 15 million dollar deal to buy out his arbitration years. So really, really cheap for 3 years.

Isn’t he one of the worst defensive CF in the majors? Will Atlanta play him in a corner?

Esmil Rogers
has a good fastball. He didn’t throw a single offspeed pitch until the fourth inning, and he couldn’t locate his curveball that BA regards as plus all night. He threw a couple below 92 late in the game, but was 92-94 (more 94s than anything else) with two 97s.
Meanwhile, Kiker was 86-88 tonight, touched 90 just once, but was successful with it, had a pretty good curve and a useable change (even though it was only about 5-6 mph slower than the form of FB that he was throwing tonight).

Couple of things about Blake
one, he seems to be going to that High fastball as a strikeout pitch more this year.
Two, apparently, he has two breaking pitches, a “get me over” type, and a pretty good bite one that he uses as a strikeout pitch.
Three, he, like the rest of the Bakersfield rotation, is barely using their changeups

Everyone was influenced by that, but most already liked Main better
influenced, partly, I think, by Beavan’s douche act after he was drafted and his drop in velocity. I still think Main has the higher ceiling, but this stretch has to worry you about his ability to remain consistent enough to reach it.

For that matter
I don’t think ANY farm system would have 5. That’d be 5 A prospects, that’d be nuts.

Wieland is probably pretty untouchable as well
given Nolan’s love.

while you are
some on here feel that way for real
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Let's put it another way
Top 100 prospects
Smoak, Feliz, Perez are certainties, but I’m not sure that there is a fourth top 100 guy right now.
Holland, Andrus and Teagarden from last year’s list are in the majors, and Max Ramirez is sucking. Beltre and Main almost made it, but they aren’t playing well either. The 14th pick has a decent shot to make it, but that’s all speculation at this point, obviously.
Font, Boscan and Borbon seem like the others who have some sort of a shot. I don’t think that Kiker or Beavan do, just knowing how BA does their business.

Boscan
I would think he’s pretty close. I’d say he has a pretty good shot.

I think he has a decent shot too
but his less than front end stuff, if SAL scouts they talk to still regard it as that, could be enough to keep him off, since his results are just in Low A. Still, he’s allowed 19 baserunners in 27 innings. If he stays healthy and keeps that up as a teenager in full season ball, I’m not sure how you keep him off. His performance once he gets his likely promotion to the Cal League also probably plays a big part.

True. Right now I think we'd get 3.
Though I think by the end of the year at least two more will probably join them.
I’d say two of Beavan, Main, Font, Boscan, Beltre, Borbon, Max, Kiker, Kirkman, Cankles, and 14th Pick Guy, depending on who steps up.

3. Perez, Feliz and Smoak.
Though no one is truly untouchable.

As in, I'd trade all three of those guys for Albert Pujols right now.

And seriously... I'm not sure I'd trade all three of them for Pujols.
I mean Pujols is great, don’t get me wrong. He’s probably the best 1B in baseball.
But considering Smoak projects to be a pretty good 1B himself, I think I’d rather have him and two insanely talented pitchers than one uber-insanely talented 1B. Now, Timmy Lincecum or Grady Sizemore? Different story.

Pujols is the best player in baseball, hands down.
If there’s anyone I’d trade those three for, it’d be Pujols.
I’m not sure people realize just how insanely good he is.
I’m glad that’s not an option, though. Cause trading those three would break my little Dirkaheart.
