the last thread went very well (almost 275 comments) but then again it was mexican food and went in the direction of fav eatery than recipes...

this time, i am bringing a recipe to the table...

Star-divide

Fruit Cobbler

in a 9x13 pan full, cut fruit...peaches/apples/blueberries (about 6 cups of fruit give or take.) sprinkle with brown sugar. (you can leave the pealing on the peaches and apples....slice them thin)

Mix together in a bowl:

2 cups sugar
2 cups of flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 eggs (beat in the flour mix with a fork until crumbly)

Pour flower mixture over the fruit. mix the mixture a little so some of the fruit comes to the top for color. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

melt 1 cup of butter (2 sticks) and pour over the fruit/flour mixture.

Bake at 350 for 45 mins to an hour. Until lightly brown

(...hey i never said it would be healthy)

Apple Dumplings - Easy and Outstanding

The Cast of Characters: Granny Smith apples, Butter, Sugar, Vanilla, Cinnamon, Pillsbury Crescent Rolls, and a can of Mountain Dew.

Start by peeling and coring 2 Granny Smith apples.
Next, cut the apples into eight slices.
Butter a 9 × 13 inch baking pan.
open the can of crescent rolls and unroll the dough
roll up an apple slice in each of the cresent rolls.
lay each one into the buttered baking pan
melt 2 sticks regular (salted) butter in a saucepan
Dump in 1 1/2 cups sugar… just barely stir together
add in 1 teaspoon vanilla and again, barely stir
Now pour the very low-calorie mixture over the top of the dumplings, making sure to thoroughly coat them.
pour Mountain Dew all around the edge of the pan
Sprinkle the top with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes, watching to make sure they don’t get too brown. (You’ll definitely want them golden brown and crispy on top, though.)

These are outstanding and very rich. People will think that you spent all day working on them and they can be put together in about ten minutes total.

Doughnut Casserole

Everyone who has tried my one and only doughnut casserole says it is one of the best tasting things they have ever eaten. But yeah, it will knock a few years off your life. Also very easy to make.

Basically you just cut up some cake doughnuts and mix them into brownie batter. Then you bake it for 10 minutes and take it out, at which point you cover it with a cookie dough crust. Finally, cook for another 15 minutes. It is incredibly good.

A little backstory on this: My friend’s sister was in town, and both she and my friend are total health nuts, and the topic of discussion turns to my horrible diet and love of doughnuts. She says I should try making meals out of doughnuts, and we came up with a general idea for doughnut casserole. After about a month of thinking on it and doing a very small bit of research, the doughnut casserole came into being. Watch out world, because one day this will be the new hot dessert in every home.

Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was on the same pitching staff with Danny Darwin during the 1986 through 1988 seasons. Both were described by Milo Hamilton as "tall, tough Texans." It was a source of debate amongst Astros players and fans over who would win in a fight, Ryan or Darwin. Though Astros pitcher Bob Knepper attempted to set up a fight between the two during spring training in 1988, manager Hal Lanier stopped it before it could commence. Many experts, including Astros shortstop Rafael Ramirez, felt that Darwin would win because he "looked like someone no man would want to mess with."

Here it is

Blueberries – Sweeten with sugar and fresh lime juice to taste. For two boxes of blueberries, I added a tablespoon of each.

Crème Fraîche – You can pick this up at any grocery store, I found it in with the specialty cheeses. This is more tangy than sour cream, but sour cream makes a nice substitute.

Citrus Zest Confit - Take any citrus that you have on hand and remove the zest. The best device is a canneleur (looks something like this). If you don’t have one of these, just peel the fruit with a peeler, and use a paring knife to remove any white pith on the back of the zest. A microplane might make the zest too small, as you later have to strain it. Make a simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water), bring to a boil, add the zest, simmer until the syrup reduces by half. Let the syrup cool, and then strain.

I mix in a bit of the confit with the berries, serve, and top with the crème fraîche and more confit.

When I lived in Chicago

I stumbled into this eatery in Bucktown some 5-6 years ago.

I looked up at the menu and saw something very intriguing.

Seeing how moist my liver was I figured, “What the Hell”

Deep Fried Twinkies, covered in chocolate sauce then dusted with powdered sugar

Recipe

Deep-fried Twinkies:
4 twinkies
1 cup flour
1 tablespoon malt vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 cup water

Chill Twinkies. Completely combine other ingredients. Dip Twinkies in batter and fry in hot oil in deep fryer. Only cook until golden brown about 1 or 1-1/2 minutes.

Pecan pie

I made one once, and while it was runny as hell, it was edible.

I’m not great at making desserts from scratch, though I can bake most anything that comes in a box mix fairly well. The one thing I can do is puddings- I make a pretty good bread pudding, and I’ll also occasionally whip out this Indian carrot pudding that’s really tasty, but it takes forever to make.

Now if it’s breakfast you’re talking about, I am the king of waffles and French toast.

There must be some kind of 225% tax on Oban in the mid-atlantic, because I remember you mentioning it before as your economy scotch, so I foraged. Never found it for less than 60, and usually it was 70.

If I’m gonna drop 60, I’ll just go ahead plunk down for some 18 yr old Irish.

1 stick soft margarine
2 cups of flour
1 bag of chocolate chips
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix all ingredients by hand. Spread in a 9X13 pan and bake at 350 for about 25 minutes.

Cake Bites

You can use any kind of cake for this. I’ve made them with yellow cake and german chocolate cake so far. Thinking about trying spice cake next.

Ingredients
1 cake mix
1 can of frosting
melting chocolate or almond bark

Follow directions on the cake mix box. When the cake is cooled (but still a little warm), crumble it up and mix in the frosting. Form mixture into balls and place on sheet. Refrigerate overnight or put in freezer for one hour. Dip in melted chocolate or almond bark and allow to cool on waxed paper.

So where's the best place to get desert?

If u were doing desert and coffee kinda stuff after a date? Just curious if folks have found anything super-special in their travels around town.

mormons stole me and held me against my will with Oklahoma beer and 12+ hour work days.
