uh!
Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was on the same pitching staff with Danny Darwin during the 1986 through 1988 seasons. Both were described by Milo Hamilton as "tall, tough Texans." It was a source of debate amongst Astros players and fans over who would win in a fight, Ryan or Darwin. Though Astros pitcher Bob Knepper attempted to set up a fight between the two during spring training in 1988, manager Hal Lanier stopped it before it could commence. Many experts, including Astros shortstop Rafael Ramirez, felt that Darwin would win because he "looked like someone no man would want to mess with."

ill care to bet that they both are pretty closely correllated.
not perfectly but i bet they are pretty dang close
Elvis has "shook up" Arlington!!
How?
The point of game score if I understand it right is it measures if the starting pitcher gave their team a chance to win.
A quality start is at least 6 innings and 3 runs or less.
How does that not give your team a chance to win. At least with a quality start it takes into consideration whether or not you kill your bullpen whereas game score does not as evidenced by the Lackey game score in his 2 pitch outting
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
This seems alot like Scotts start in Arizona
Struggled early but in the end went 6 giving up 3 runs.

thursday is an off day, and these are pitchers that can still be used tomorrow if they have to.
it doesn’t eliminate them from any important games. with the disaster this month has been is it that crazy to use your best to absolutely lock down the game? the rangers have blown up for more runs than this.
granted you could probably wait until the other guys got into trouble.
the preceding post was a great success.
because CJ has GREAT outings when he pitches in back to back games
If ron washington doesnt know that then he should go back to moping up school halls.
Elvis has "shook up" Arlington!!
So thats why hes using him for 1.1 tonight and saving Frankie for tomorrow
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
in a 5 run game?
if tomorrow is a one run game going into the 8th, then what do you do?
Oh yeah, you will be one of the ones bitching about CJ giving up a line drive after he came in and inherited a runner and rip him to shreds.
Makes some sense, no?
Elvis has "shook up" Arlington!!
though for the record
i would not have brought CJ in until there was more of a threat. i just don’t think its a particularly stupid/damaging move.
the preceding post was a great success.
I believe im one of the biggest CJ supporters on here
8th inning tomorrow….ODay?
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
I just dont understand why you waste your best bullpen arm right now
in a 5 run game? Im sorry but that is just not smart management of your bullpen.
So now they are going to bring Frankie in and take him out for tomorrow? really? Unless i guess just 3 outings after returning from the DL we want to risk frankie two nights in a row.
Elvis has "shook up" Arlington!!
Look I don't necessarily agree with the move
But at the same time you can’t simply hold these guys back there waiting for the right moment to use them. Thats when they get underused and are rusty when you do need them all while wearing out the other guys.
After tonight I don’t think any of ODay, CJ or Frankie will be unavailable for tomorrow should they be needed and with the off day Thursday there is no way to use them 3 days in a row
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
I would agree with you if our bullpen has been underused this year
But the fact of it is, they havent. Frankie has been on the DL twice, mostly bc of overuse during late April and May. The off day does give you some flexibility but I just assume you let Eddie throw 2 innings and then let Oday close it out. Save your most important arms for tomorrow at the least. If its a close game, you definitely want them. If the game gets out of hand either way, you through both Frankie and CJ an inning each, right before an off day. Just no point in wasting arms, your most important ones, IMHO
Elvis has "shook up" Arlington!!

i blame gabbard

Don't know if it was his debut but yes he had been used earlier
ODay was the 5th reliever we used that day
Frankie and Jennings were the two relievers we didn’t use
Frankie had pitched 1.2 innings the day before
And Jennings had pitched the day before and this was back when he was unavailable in back to back days

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
You might be
but it seems like the team is being pretty cautious with him after his DL stint

Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland - 2009 Rangers Minor League POY
Aren't we all curious?

Relatively meaningless when he leads AL SS's in UZR/150.

good pitch!
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland - 2009 Rangers Minor League POY
I think by sending him out there they had already decided CJ wasn't pitching tomorrow
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
but why?
Is there a good reason why you dont want him pitching tomorrow, in a potential close game where tonight is a semi blow out?
Elvis has "shook up" Arlington!!
We have plenty of people ready for tomorrow
Im not gonna overreact like you obviously are

Now, a nice simple 6-4-3 Double play

AWESOME!!
So now both CJ and frankie will not be available tomrrow!! Got to love this manager!
Im sorry, that is not how you manage a bullpen who has been slightly over used this year.
CJ threw too many pitches tonight to be available tomrrow and i dont really want them to plug frankie back to back yet.
I just dont get it.
Elvis has "shook up" Arlington!!
Our bullpens been overused?
Thats the first time I think ive heard that

Come on Frankie
One pitch double play

????
So when frankie went down on the DL the second time, there were quite a few people getting on wash for overusing the pen, and especially Frankie
Elvis has "shook up" Arlington!!
Uh that was bringing him back too soon from injury, not general overuse
CJ wilson is on pace for 66 innings. O’day on pace for 58. Frankie hadn’t done anything out of the ordinary for a closer.
the preceding post was a great success.
although there was a specific incident or 3 times in 4 days and such, but not an overall innings for the year or anything.
and thats just frankie. the pen in general definitely not.
the preceding post was a great success.
Frankie was overused
But our bullpen in general I believe has thrown one of the fewest innings totals in all of baseball
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

But I want you to explain how game score is such a great stat yet quality start is so shitty

Ron wants to abuse the bullpen tonight
so they have to send Borbon down and bring up a pitcher.
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland - 2009 Rangers Minor League POY
Do we know why he hates rookies so much?
Did Boggs/Borbon run one on his wife or something?

Borbon has played in 1 of the two games hes been up for
Sat against a lefty that has been pretty good this year.
Boggs sucked last year in the majors although that doesn’t justify sitting as much as he did it is an explanation

RW is a fucking idiot. We are now totally running thru the meat of the bullpen with a 6 run lead

Sigh.

"I don’t think we ever envisioned that anyone could shut this offense down to one hit" - Ron Washington
bummer
Where is Frankie's velocity?
