Should CJ ever pitch back to back games?

I know there are plenty of CJ haters out and just for the record, I'm not really a hater. One problem I do have with CJ though is that he doesn't seem to be near as sharp when he works back to back days. After yesterday's game I had to go back and look at the stats to see if my hunch was correct. In all he's pulled seven back to back performances this season and here are the results:

5.1 IP, 10 hits allowed, 12 runs allowed (8 of which were earned), 4 BB and 4 K.

In those seven appearances he's given up multiple runs in three of the games (his only multiple run appearances of the season) and allowed more combined hits and walks than strikeouts in each game. My question to the experts is simple, is this normal for a reliever to not be as sharp on the second day or is this a legitimate flaw in CJ's game?

That actually holds up for his career, too

7.91 ERA, 1.909 WHIP and an 881 OPS against in 28 appearances and 33 innings with 0 days rest.

Interesting.

I still don't know

why CJ has never been tried again as a starter.

He can't even pitch in back-to-back games

How do you expect him to pitch back-to-back innings?

i am probably just a cj homer

b/c he used to post here and i saw what i think is unbelievable talent in the guy but i kind of agree. he has said before he wanted to start. the rangers said no so he wanted to close. seems to me like the guy has the talent and the heart to compete but isn’t given the chance. and before i get shredded i know his e.r.a. and whip and what not from last year but we don’t know how long he was hurt so whatever. my point being i know we’re not really short on sp right now but before everyone calls for his head i wish the team would reevaluate what he really is. oh yeah kevin mench sucks. just for old times sakes.

ever lift weights? It is difficult and sometimes hazardous to do heavy exertion of the same muscle groups

without a 3-5 day rest. I would consider throwing 96-97 for 1 2/3 innings a serious workout. It is different if he throws 4 innings like in 1 outing vs 2 innings on consecutive days

Back to back games is something he has to learn to do

if he ever wants to be a legit late-inning relief guy. I thought the problem yesterday was that he was used for 5 outs on Thursday. Maybe he’s a three-out guy, or a late inning left hand specialist — not a LOOGY, because he can get right-handers out, but the kind of guy you don’t automatically put in every game in the eighth, unless the batters are predominantly left-handed.

Coming into this year, I was a C.J. hater. I have to admit, I’m warming up to him.

That's why they call them business sox

wow

yea, Wash needs to see these stats. CJ is an on again, off again pitcher, it seems like these off nights coincide almost directly with outings on back to back nights.

I've rec'd this post

At first I thought it was silly, but as it turns out it’s worth talking about.

Or maybe

he just is what he is. Maybe he is a guy that %70 of the time is super dominant, and the rest of the time he just can’t mentally figure it out. I’m not dogging your post, because it is quality and you are totally right on, I just don’t think there has ever been a Ranger more psychoanalyzed, statistically analyzed, and mechanically analyzed than CJ Wilson, I love the guy, but he does make everyone on here dizzy
