LA is getting hot

I was really hoping they’d drop the game last night, i believe it was scoreless entering the 9th

I had a paper route when I was a kid. I was supposed to go to 2,000 houses. Or two dumpsters.

They will not go away.

I expect them to be right there at the bitter end, if not on top then close.

by Black Francis on Jun 6, 2009 12:10 PM CDT up reply actions

They've got one major problem -

16 games left w/ the Rangers.

5-5 in last 10.

I don’t consider that hot in any way….more like random variance, if anything.

Their only loss in the last five games

…was to Roy Halladay.

Before that they were reeling a bit, so yeah I’d say they’re getting hot or look to be.

This

I didn’t look at their last ten, just been paying extra close attention the past week or so.

I had a paper route when I was a kid. I was supposed to go to 2,000 houses. Or two dumpsters.

They've got Escobar on the mound for them today

Against Edwin Jackson. Tomorrow, its Saunders vs. Porcello. That should help stop their hot streak.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

I'm not a big Saunders fan...

…but I have a hard time believing that he isn’t better than Porcello right now.

The Weaver doubting isn't going well this year either.

At least saunders has been bad since we knocked him around.

the preceding post was a great success.

Rangers on top?

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

No.

Look at the far right column. Three of the four teams share something in common.

by Black Francis on Jun 6, 2009 12:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Woah, you are correct sir.

All three teams have an “s” in their names.

+32 run differential

Exactly one-third of the way through the season today, the Rangers are 10 games over .500, on pace for 96 wins and on pace to give up only 771 runs.

by Inkara1 on Jun 6, 2009 12:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Now that we've avoided getting swept in both series, I'm content with that.

Any more wins in Boston are gravy. I figure that the way this division is and with the record the Rangers already have, all we need is for them to beat up on the weak teams and hang with the top ones (i.e. avoid getting swept). If the Rangers can consistently do that, they should be in a good position in this division. I was afraid they’d go 0-for-6 on the road trip and undo two months’ worth of goodwill in a week. I would certainly be stoked if the Rangers can get another win and go 3-3 on a trip I was afraid they’d go 0-6 on, but even if they lose today and tomorrow, I can live with it because they didn’t get swept.

by Inkara1 on Jun 6, 2009 12:44 PM CDT reply actions

Absurd.

With all due respect, even as a fan you shouldn’t be content just because your team didn’t get swept. And while the division is weak, you cannot assume it will be that easy to take. The number two team won a hell of a lot of games last year.

I wanted to see them win both series. I wasn’t suicidal when they dropped two of three to NYY in NYC, but dammit they won the first game in Boston and they should be able to take at least one more. They’re a better team.

by Black Francis on Jun 6, 2009 12:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Content does not equal happy, ecstatic, stoked, etc.

Sort of like when I bought my car last year. I’m OK with the deal I got. I’m sure I could have haggled it down more, but I don’t feel like I got screwed either.

This is the kind of trip where in years past, a contending Rangers team would’ve gotten swept in both series and it would have sunk the season.

by Inkara1 on Jun 6, 2009 1:45 PM CDT up reply actions

yea, in a baseball season you sometimes have to be content with things like this

or you will almost always be sorely disappointed. Not saying that I am going to be happy with a 2-4 road trip, but i think over a full set of games, I have to look at the bigger picture and be content with where this team is at.

Agreed

With where the team is at now, a 2-4 road trip would kinda suck but not torpedo the season (and also not get in the guys’ heads and make them wonder if they can win in those stadiums at all). An 0-6 road trip would really put the brakes on things.

96 win pace

nice. I am really hoping for one more win in Boston.

I would

consider a 3-3 record on the road trip to be a rousing success. Id really like to see Holland step up tonight.

3-3 is what I was wanting

I absolutely don't know what to expect from Holland tonight

I think it’s highly probably that he and Maddux have worked out a game plan based on correcting stuff from the past few outings. Still, these are the Red Sox and this is Fenway. But there’s a small, still voice in the back of my consciousness whispering that this could be Derek’s coming out party.
