I think all in all it came out even though

Since all our wins were fairly close and we got blown out a couple times.

4-2 certainly would have been nice though.

the preceding post was a great success.

my problem with the situation was when he did so and how he handled the pressure and basketcased mentally afterwords.

Agreed

His timing on things like that sucks. But today he was totally screwed over by the Ump and never once looked like he was ready to lose his mind. I’ll take that all day. They’ll buy him out after the season but for now I’d rather he take the mound every five days.

FWIW if that game is a playoff game or a game on the line

i expect Omar to run through Tek, and yes they should have proper instruction to best effectivley do so without hurting themselves and yes, omar should know that method by now.

good win. 98 mph by CJ? jeez.

Can sum1 explain to me why Matsuzaka’s windup isnt a balk every pitch, other than they want japanese pitchers to be successful in the tin foil hat kinda way?

"BIg whoop, wanna fight about it?"

by lost in space on Jun 7, 2009 4:43 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No

It took him 10 minutes to get around tek….some of you need to watch that replay again

his feet were already beyond home, yes, but his hand doesnt get to home until at least a second after the tag is applied

also, tek would never have caught that ball if omar ran over him

by Horns130 on Jun 7, 2009 4:48 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

"clearly"

That’s a stretch. It was a really close play and the ump would have needed to be standing in a different spot to see if Vizquel really did get the tag in before Varitek got him.

He should be one of the top candidates

Longoria has the best shot at MVP right now and then the discussion goes to Greinke, Halladay, Verlander, Kinsler, Cruz, and Scutaro who are all somewhat close in WAR. If Halladay, Verlander, and Greinke keep up this great pitching throughout the season, they’re going to have legitimate shots at the MVP. Longoria looks like he’s going to run away with it while Cruz and Kinsler are left being the 2nd best hitters in the league (tough to pick one over the other now).

eh honestly I don't see many people with a shot in that list for the full season.

Longoria is struggling lately and right now he looks like he will be like hammy last year – good stats, great rbis on a team out of contention. i doubt he outhits the others by enough to win the mvp. obviously he does have a solid shot though.

And a pitcher not even on a playoff team winning? Thats what cy youngs are for, I really can’t see it. Scutaro has no chance on earth though yes hes been very good so far.

well

UZR has him as a career negative at every position hes played aside from 1b, and this year his defense shows as good but pretty far off from Andrus level. And his offensive improvement is unsustainable.

On a mvp candidate list if the season ended today? yeah, he probably should be. But do you really think he will stick around?

the preceding post was a great success.

by DSheppard on Jun 7, 2009 11:17 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

For the season?

Not really, but the original post was asking about at the 1/3 mark. I don’t expect Scutaro to keep hitting and walking like he has, but he does deserve to be mentioned as an MVP candidate right now.

His defense last year was one of the best in baseball at SS according to plus/minus. And that was in only 56 games. This year, UZR shows him as being worse than last season, but still pretty good.

espn recap

says its the first series win against boston in 12 years. i’m assuming that means at fenway because i know we have a few series wins against them in arlington.

by selppuc on Jun 7, 2009 4:35 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, at Fenway.

They mentioned that on FSN after the game too.

Very happy right now.

I know that the starting pitching is not assured of getting the results they’ve been getting over the last couple months, but think about this:

The Rangers just went 3-3 in NYC and Boston with their best reliever only being able to pitch one inning and not having their best hitter at all.

frankie being healthy is key

cj has seemed to figure it out over the last couple weeks. with a bullpen of frankie, a good cj, and o’day along with the improved defense i don’t see how this team doesn’t win the division. anaheim will win below 90 this year.

Not so sure...

with Kinsler and Cruz doing what they are doing. Even a 100% healthy Hamilton may not be as good as those two right now. I sure hope we get a chance to find out here shortly though.

Just drink

Nothing like legal drinking for the first time. But I agree with Firebat that it would suck if you didn’t have anyone to hang out with. If that’s the case, just wait a few days for the big blowout. That said, you should still go out and get your free drinks.

Remember Red, hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies.

Great Game

I wanted a .500 road trip and thats what I got. I like what we did, I think we leave NYY and BOS thinking that this isnt the old Rangers but is rather a team that is going to keep winning, a team that will be tough if they can add a arm or two, maybe a bat.

Dissapointed mightily by Dutch. Its growing pains, but he needs some bullpen help right now, not rotation. Matt Harrison can do his thing, I believe in his ability. Im sure Padilla will sleep wrong on his kneck and will be out two weeks at some point and Dutch can take his two starts.

Hopefully good news is coming on J Ham and hopefully this homestand will be 6-0.

This is our year.

Make that either 8-2 or 7-3 in the home stand(10 games, 4 Vs TOR, 3 Vs LAD, 3 Vs Hou)

I think that is both hopefull and honestly possible.

Total Attendence for Homestand= 352,980 (Avg of 35,298 per game)

Mildly similar

but probably just a different scenario, MLB.com’s wrap of the game has a lot more Red Sox highlights than Rangers. Including “Youkilis leans into Padilla’s pitch” and “Two come home on fielding error”. Joy.

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere.
“It’s part of the game,” Padilla said about being placed on waivers. “Baseball is a business, and that’s the way it’s supposed to be. I just have to keep working, and if I don’t pitch for this team, I’ll have a chance to throw for another one.”

Nobody wanted him at his current salary

If the Rangers released him then there would be a long list of teams lined up to pay the minimum salary (with Texas picking up the difference) to have him plunk batters for them.

Faber vs Brown II is tonight.

Should be a great fight,Faber was arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the World until Brown knocked him out. (Faber made a terrible mistake throwing a flying elbow)

Just got back to NYC from the game...

That was awesome.

What a great, encouraging road trip. Millwood, Padilla, Feldman all showed they can go into intimidating environments and win a big game. Great news for the playoffs.

Awesome bounce back job by Padilla today. Waivers message apparently received. Now stay focused, Vicente.

Cruz is a monster.

DH vs bullpen help

Which is the greater need for the Rangers? Blalock has a >.900 ops vs RHP this year but a sub .600 ops vs LHP and .844 overall. After a fast start AJ has a .724 ops since May 1.

After a rough start in April the bullpen has settled down. (Thanks Darren.) The main concern is FF’s shoulder.

Should JD go after a big bat to put in the middle of the line up or a late inning reliever?

by RangerMad on Jun 7, 2009 9:40 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Either one

I don’t see either as a major need right now, so if JD can work out a deal for either one at the deadline that doesn’t really sell off the farm, it would help out. I don’t see a good DH coming here though with JD probably not trading Blalock this deadline and it doesn’t look like Jones is going anywhere.

David Murphy

Since his 0-22 start look at his numbers just against RHP

.333 avg (23-69)
.402 OBP
.493 SLG

If Brandon Boggs starts getting starts against RHP in place of Murphy I will be a pissed off guy. He needs to play everyday against them.

+1

Marlon Byrd starting over Murph against RHP’s before Hamilton got hurt again was ticking me off. Murphy’s improvement this year has just been incredible.

I’d say Boggs : O’Day.

Both have their limitations, but both make a pretty strong tandem when they’re used together.
