Hamilton to have surgery

Per Jamey, Josh is going to have surgery to repair his abdominal tear and is expected to miss 4 to 6 weeks.  I guess I'd rather have him just do it and ensure that he'll be OK in 6 weeks, rather than hope it fixes itself with rest.  However, watching Byrd and Murphy out there everyday is going to get old really quick.  Let's hope Davis can pick it up.

Better to get it done now...

and be back for the stretch run than continue to wait it out and have it bite you in the butt later…

Good news, IMO…

I think they will most likely move Hamilton over to LF

And leave Cruz in right. He has learned that position and is one of the best defensive outfielders in the league. I would hate to move him over to LF and that negatively affect his defensive performance. Not saying that is for sure would, but not sure Id risk it. Plus I think Hamilton is suited more for left anyway, mainly for his speed.

I still don't understand...

why the Rangers would move two OFers rather than just moving Josh to LF. As you say Nellie has been great in RF and Josh’s speed would be great in LF. Just put Hamilton in LF and leave Cruz alone.

It will be interesting to see if the Byrd/Murphy combo struggles how long JD/Nolan will stick with them ‘til they bring up Borbon. Especially if Borbon keeps hitting like he has recently. 6 weeks isn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but that is still long enough to consider bringing up Borbon now imo.

I'm sure Murph can

but I don’t know that they want him to. I’d rather see Boggs in CF with Byrd than Murph

Murphy really has no place on this team if Hamilton isn't in CF

For the time being, I’d guess we’ll see Byrd everyday in CF with Boggs/Murphy in LF and Jones/Blalock at DH.

how long till Borbon is up?

I know this sounds ignorant

but I’m excited to see Boggs get some more at bats and time in the field. Gotta look at some sort of bright side…

I think it will tell us

a lot about Boggs. Murphy is getting hot. Cruz just continues to perform. Byrd is doing his usual solid job. I am not that concerned.

Repost of what I gathered from JD's presser:

He said it wasn’t technically a hernia.

Usually a "mesh" is inserted to patch/repair the tear. This is evidently much smaller, and can simply be sutured. It sounds as if this is a laproscopic procedure, as opposed to cut and dig around.

JD said 4-6.

So that’s good. Also, the Dr. he saw in Philly is kind of a pioneer in the less invasive surgery, and also treated McNabb, and some other high-profile guys.

Sports Hernia surgery explained...

Lifted from sportshernia.org:

Today, the procedure can be performed using minimally invasive (laparscopic) surgery. Laparoscopy uses three ¼-inch incisions to allow insertion of instruments used to visulize muscle damage and perform the repair. To reinforce the repair and make it stronger, a synthetic mesh-like material is used.

Expected athletic recovery in 4 weeks.

Lap dance

well, 4-6 weeks is a lot better than I had feared, given Kinsler’s situation last year.

Without Hamilton...

We have been playing well, however we are going to need at least a few of these for our offense to keep up:

1.A Marlon Byrd month long hot streak like in the past.
2.Chris Davis to play up to his potential.
3.David Murphy to catch fire
4.Nellie and Young to continue their ways
5.Andruw Jones to play a more regular OF

Andruw

could also use a hot streak. He’s had some patient at bats, but fairly meh outcomes lately.

Bad but not a disaster

Aat least we will have him back for the stretch run. The injury I’ve always been afraid of was some knee thing knocking him out for the year.

And the hernia thing had the chance of being as difficult to recover from as kinslers. This at least sounds like we can count on him to be back at least fairly close to the 6 weeks.

the preceding post was a great success.

by DSheppard on Jun 8, 2009 4:30 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

six weeks puts him at the all star break

If it lasts that long, why not just wait to bring him back the first day after the all star break? You won’t have to worry about him getting hurt or into a slump from the HR derby or the exhibition game.

Signature! I don't need no stinking signature!!

Ben an Skin touched on this possibility...

but what do you think of trading for a center fielder instead of bringing up borbon in the middle of what has turned into a competitive season? I’m not sure what a player like Curtis Granderson or Grady Sizemore would cost us, but would it be worth it to package borbon, byrd so they have a center fielder for the rest of the season, a catcher, and one or two minor league pitchers to get a star center fielder for the next several years. Then our outfield would be set with Cruz and Hamilton in the corners and the new stud in center, and Murphy/Boggs as the 4th and 5th guys.

It would all depend on how much the other team would demand and I’m guessing it would be costly in prospects…but if this move could give us a prototypical leadoff hitter (moving kinsler down to hit either 2 or 3 while josh is out), and plus defense in center field, then doesn’t it seem worth it? Now if JD could find a way for the team to throw in a solid bullpen arm that this team needs, without giving up holland, feliz, or perez in the deal, I think it would set us up perfectly for this season’s race, without mortgaging the future.

Here’s a post where I linked to four different subjects that you ran away from after I called you out. When given an opportunity to respond, you chose to (a) respond to my posts while (b) pretending you didn’t read my posts or care what I had to say.

Are you sure you want to sit there and say you don’t run away when you’re wrong? Maybe you just want to log off for a few days and try again…

You don't run away, period

That’s what bothers people. It’s not so much what you say but how you say it, as well as your total inflexibility.

I'm talking about

the Nolan Ryan/JD dynamic and Daniels in particular. You know what “arguments” you get into better than I do.

Take it from someone who has no special place in his heart for ANY baseball executive of any team. Daniels has done some good here. Ryan’s done some good here. Even back when it was Hart and Fuson I still thought it was ridiculous how some people would give Fuson the credit for anything good that happened and Hart would be blamed for anything bad.

These decisions are made by committee. There’s not one GM or President in baseball who calls all the shots. It’s not a top down thing and probably hasn’t been in years and years.

by Black Francis on Jun 8, 2009 6:22 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Do you even believe yourself when you say that?

I suppose “not worth the time” means that posts rebutting your arguments can interrupt your otherwise nonsensical rants…

Still, this whole “I swear I didn’t read any of your posts even though I previously replied to them” lie is low, even for you…

That wasn't the question or statement made

That I replied to.

It sucks for BMac because he looked to have turned a corner recently. Im not gonna blame his injury on his increased pitch counts but I do believe they had some impact.

Ultimately I think this will lead to him being non-tendered and we will watch him pitch well for some other team for the next several years and idiots like you will come on here and spew how JD let another one get away.
