Minors 7/11
Here's todays pitching probs:
At 1 OKC will get the return of Kris Benson.
At 6 Neil Ramirez will try not to BB/HBP 20 guys for Hickory.
At 7 Josh Rupe will start the second game of the day/night twin bill for OKC.
Also at 7 Mike Ballard will get the start for Frisco.
At 9 Ryan Tatusko will toe the rubber for Bakersfield.
Also at 9 Matt Thompson will get the start for Spokane.
And the AZL Rangers play tonight with maybe Carlos Melo making the start.
Go Rangers!

NeRa and Melo what I'm looking forward to
Would like to see Smoak have a bounce back game today too.
I feel bad for OKC.

no kidding
The bullpen is going to get absolutely wore out today. I think Rupe will have to go ~120 pitches no matter what type of beating he is getting. And I don’t think they have Feliz available today.

gawd, Benson sucks asss
i hope he’s the last guy in OKC that they’d consider calling up to pitch for us again.

I can't imagine why he would be
Happy is clearly the most likely non-40 candidate to be considered, with El Duque probably in the mix at some point as well. Then you’ve got Mad Dog already on the 40.
Considering those three available candidates and the unlikely need for a wholesale overhaul of the bullpen (like the Nats earlier this year), I would be stunned to see Benson return to Arlington.

yes but
none of the 3 you mentioned are SPs.

Surely they've seen enough of Benson starting already to not experiment with that
Surely we wouldn’t get to a situation where all of Harrison, McCarthy, Mathis, Nippert, Holland, and Hunter are unable to take the ball.

OKC first game
Borbon, Davis and Smoak a combined 0-11, 2 BB, 2K
I thought minor league DHs are 7 innings each. Is that different in AAA? They played 9 innings in the first game.

Yes, ordinarily...
But this was a split double header, planned in advance, with each game separately ticketed, so its two 9-inning games. We did the same thing last year too because of the Big 12. Smart thing to do on a 106 degree day…

Last Year
Don’t remember the game, but there was a thunderstick night at The Ballpark. I’ve never wanted to sucker punch drunks so bad in my entire life.
I realize that The Ballpark is all family friendly, but do they really have to go so far as to have promo nights that make kids and drunks even more annoying than they already are on a furnace-like summer evening?

One of the more entertaining experiences of my collegiate athletics-watching career
My freshman year, a group of us drove up from College Station to watch the Ags’ Friday night game at Baylor Ballpark. They were giving away thundersticks that night, but refused to give them to any Aggies. Meanwhile, they gave out loads of them to the Baylor students who showed up in the 2nd or 3rd inning dressed like they were going out to the bar, not to a mid-March baseball game played in rather chilly temperatures.
By the 6th inning, the combination of the temperatures, the merciless taunting by the Aggies, and the Aggie beatdown of the Bears on the diamond drove the Baylor students out of the stands and back to the comfort of their Beamers and Lexuses. Unfortunately for the city of Waco, they all left their thundersticks in the stands. We Aggies quickly confiscated him and spent the rest of the night beating them on the aluminum bleachers to rally an Aggie baseball team that was already well in the lead as well as doing other things like practicing our sword fighting skills.
Needless to say, the Baylor faithful that stayed till the end were rather disgusted with Thunderstick Night at Baylor Ballpark.

Ok that was a little harsh.
I take back the “fuck you” part.
The rest stands.

Wilmer Font video from Thursday...
Yep.
Weird
The one on flat ground looked more full speed. The video in the pen was more having a catch.

Interesting thread over at the NMLR board
Ming the Magnificent shares some research he’s done on our unsigned draftees and the big Latin names.
That dude must work for google or something.
Always a wealth of info, and where does he get it all? Also good news (confirmation?) from 363dp there.

Actually
half of those she listed have already signed…

a great Peter Gammons nugget from last year

Why does it seem...
that the only team Gammons praises outside Boston/NY is Oakland? Is it just me?
