My guess is Cahill.

He’s thinks it’s hilarious for some reason.

I mainly just put Marcus on the list just to give him somewhere to put his daily hilarious vote, and I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what he’s done each and every day, though I haven’t checked.

Hurley

Are people ignoring Hurley because he’s injured and may not come back from it? Because they don’t consider him a prospect anymore due to MLB appearance? Or do they just not think he’s in the top 12?

Not high on Max...

He’s 25, is suffering pretty badly from this injury, and didn’t really tear it up in AA.

Ross and Weiland are both showing talent at missing bats, while being very young with plenty of progression ahead of them.

I’m voting for Ross until he makes it, and then I think Weiland is my next target, with Boscan just behind that.

Poveda's peripherals are pretty scary this season.

The ERA is nice and shiny at 3.5, but his k rate has dropped significantly (4.8 k’s / 9) to the point that he’s barely striking out more than he’s walking (3.25 bb’s / 9).

That’s a pretty terrible k/bb ratio for a prospect.

He’s getting by with a fan-freaking-tastic BABIP and a low HR rate that I don’t think are sustainable at all.

The risk with pitchability pitchers who succeed in the lower minors without standout stuff is that they usually get exposed in the upper minors against more advanced hitters.

ERA aside I think that’s what we’re seeing with Omar.

He’s really lost a lot of his shine, imo.

He's 21.

He throws 89-92 with the fastball, and will sneak a two-seamer in every once in a while (or at least, he was doing that). He has the best change up of any starter in the system, and his curveball is rapidly becoming a quality major league offering.

He definitely deserves consideration, and I’ve been voting for him the past 4 or 5 times. He’s going to be big in the second half.

by NoNameOnCard on Jul 16, 2009 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions

trip

as a question, do you think he can survive with a ~5 k/9 and 3+ bb/9 or do you expect that to change?

equally if you expect it to change, why?

(serious question)

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Historically, he's been way better than that.

I see no reason for him to continue at his current rates. He’s got the stuff to be better than that, so I think he will be better than that.

How would you account for the K rate falling/eventually rising?

As he’s made spot starts over his level over the year, while also moving up steadily, I’ve always thought he was a favored son of the Rangers org. I like his future.

Two reasons.

1. Big jump in talent level from High A to AA.
2. Pitch selection.

Ross for me

I’m not a fan of players who have lost year’s of development time like Max has this season. He also doesn’t have much of a defensive position, so not hitting in AAA this year does hurt his value a lot. The next few votes are going to be interesting. I’m thinking of voting for Max, Hurley, Boscan, and Weiland Not really sure where to go after Ross gets voted in.

Not Yet

He is really young for his level of competition, so I’m hoping that the K rate will go up. A healthy Boscan should have a strong finish to the season. If not, well he will probably fall outside the top 20 the next time we vote. Regardless, he has a lot of stuff going for him at an incredibly young age.

But after that it’s gonna be another wide open one.
