I'd say Max
then Boscan. After that, I’m thinking Wieland then Beltre then Poveda.
Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.
Moreland for me.
then, in no particular order.
- MaxRam
- Wieland
- Boscan
- de los Santos
actually…it probably will be in that order.

yea i would like to see the reasoning for having him this high
or even having him above maxram (/why you downgrade max)
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

yep
I just love what he brings to the table offensively. He’s a contact hitter with a great eye at the plate and good pop. The man just has a great approach when it comes to hitting. I mean, just look at his splits…his stats against lefties are amazing.
The main thing for me, though, is consistency. He’s been raking since the day he joined the organization. Max, as much as I like him, can’t say that. He had a great year last year, I know…but other than that he’s been pretty…meh.

okay
I just checked MaxRams’ stats and I’m underrating him a bit. I guess, his play this year has distorted my view of him more than I realized. I still prefer Moreland, though.

I think it all depends on if you think Max has the ability to stay behind the plate.
I do, so have Max as a far better prospect than Moreland.
If I thought Max was gonna be a 1b/DH like Moreland it’d prolly be a bit closer, though I’d likely still prefer Max.

I actually don't hate this
I disagree, and I’m still voting for Max here, but I think Moreland is a little undervalued by some. I can’t wait to see how he produces in OKC next year.
One thing, though: I don’t see where MOreland has been “amazing” against lefties. Am I missing something?

Moreland
has historically hit lefties better than he hit righties, though often for less power.

that tells me that he probably comes in to an AB against a lefty with the mindset of, “I’m gonna shorten my stroke and hit it where it’s pitched”. Personally, I don’t understand why more hitters don’t take that approach when facing a tough match up.

Moreland has a .917 OPS
Against righties, he has a .903 OPS.

Yeah, I think he's a good bet
to post about an .850 OPS for several years. Somewhere between John Jaha and Lyle Overbay bat maybe. Chris Davis’ power is more exciting, but I’m no longer sure he’s more valuable as a bat. I think Cahill’s Henry Rodriguez comp for Davis has some merit.

MaxRam vs Moreland
The stats are a few weeks old, but a comparison reveals that Moreland’s minor league performance is on par with Ramirez.
Max Ramirez is generally regarded as a very good hitting prospect in the Rangers’ system due to his ability to hit for average, hit for power, and draw walks. In three-plus years of full-season minor league baseball, Ramirez has posted a line of .299/.390/.499 in 1284 at-bats. In 776 at-bats in three full-season leagues, Moreland has hit .328/.400/.540. Moreland’s unusual combination of high contact rate, high walk percentage, and impressive power suggest that he will be a productive hitter when he reaches the major leagues.
I rate Ramirez more highly because I think that he will eventually be able to catch in the major leagues. But Moreland’s successful transition to AA (he would rank in the Texas League Top 10 in BA, OBP, SLG, and OPS if he had ~40 more at bats after ranking in the Top 10 in those categories in both the Cal League and Midwest League) has me convinced that he will become a productive major league hitter.

Trip has seen him play and suggests that he might be able to play right field in the majors. For my analysis, I always assume that he will be a 1B/DH which means that his bat will have to be great for him to become an everyday player. In reality, I think that he will have to get playing time in both RF and 1B in order to get more than a few hundred at bats per season once he reaches the majors.
Good trade chip at this point too.

From what I’ve seen of him he’s probably best suited for 1B/DH but could play COF if needed (though not with great defense)

Since Max is running away with this one
How about some Joe Wieland love in preparation for next time? 3.03 FIP, 8.10 K’s per 9 to just 2.70 BB’s per 9 in Hickory, despite a .359 BABIP. That’s pretty much in line with his rookie ball #’s from last year, only this time with a high BABIP instead of a low one.
I can sorta see how folks might be scared off of Boscan because of the sharp decline in K rate, but I can’t understand why Wieland hasn’t gotten more love in the voting. He’s definitely next for me.

Moreland over Max for me
Have seen them both at Frisco past 2 years and I think Moreland will be a better big league hitter.
On TV the other day ...
Moreland faced a Texas League All Star reliever [Samuel] in a late-game situation. He got behind, shortened his swing and slapped a sharp ground single back thru the box on a 97-mph pitch. That impressed the tar outta me.
Wow.

And yes, I know, he’s playing against guys who are 2-3 years older than him. But you have to wonder if its good for his development to push him ahead so fast that he always struggles to be successful. Maybe he would get a confidence boost by beating up on his peers for a bit.

From BA's "Prospect Hot Sheet"
No. 7 MARTIN PEREZ, LHP
RANGERS
Team: low Class A Hickory (South Atlantic)
Age: 18
Why He’s Here: 2-0, 0.90, 10 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 9 SO
The Scoop: Perez has won his last three starts, allowing only two earned runs over 15 innings in the process. He has continued dominating righthanded hitters all season, thanks to the emergence of his changeup as a go-to secondary pitch. He’s held righthanders to a .219 average, compared to .286 for lefties, and his 2.55 ERA for the year ranks sixth in the SAL. The Rangers have been very cautious with Perez’s workload, but he’s gone exactly five innings in each of his last four starts. Before that, he hadn’t lasted five innings or more in more than two consecutive outings.
No. 10 ROBBIE ROSS, LHP
Team: short-season Spokane (Northwest)
Age: 20
Why He’s Here: 1-0, 0.90, 10 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 2 HBP, 3 BB, 7 SO
The Scoop: Strikeouts? Check. Groundballs? Check, or maybe that should be a check-plus. Making his professional debut after signing last year as a second-round pick, the 20-year-old Ross has a 2.67 ERA with a 41-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 30 1/3 innings. While Ross has been punching out batters with his low-90s fastball and his slider, he’s done a remarkable job keeping the ball on the ground, as 88 percent of his outs on balls in play have been groundouts.
IN THE TEAM PHOTO
Double-A Frisco LHP Kasey Kiker (Rangers) continued his recent run of dominance. The 21-year-old held Arkansas to one run on four hits over six innings Sunday, striking out six along the way. It was the fourth straight start in which he’s held opponents to run run or less
