This offense sucks so much right now, I can hardly bear to watch it.

I don't want Julio Borbon or Justin Smoak to come up any more.  I don't want them infected with the "swing at anything that's in the same zip code as the strike zone" virus that has hit the rest of the lineup.

because he's cheap

and young enough that he might improve some. But mostly because he’s cheap.

But as far as a player to build around, not hardly. I wouldn’t just give him away, but as far as living up to the hype – he’s been a huge bust.

Do you see

Teagarden as someone to build around? Just a question. For so much catcher depth, I’m not seeing guys that are studs at this level.

Yes.

Let his ass sit for another week as far as I’m concerned, give Taylor more playing time. Salty is as bad as Davis with the K’s right now, but for some reason he’s still starting. The guy can’t even throw the ball back to the pitcher accurately, but occasionally he’ll flash some good defense and get a couple of hits in a game. Could it really be any worse to give Teagarden the starting job for a while and let Salty back him up just to see what would happen? Salty hasn’t really done anything to show that he deserves the starting job anyway.

I really wouldn't think about last year as anything likely to continue

I mean totally unsustainable rates for HR for Teagarden last year, unless you think hes going to take about half his fly balls out of the ball park for his career.

Not sure Salty is an answer, but quoting a 840 career OPS, based mostly on his hot streak last year.

What do voluntary mean?

by JKolar on Jul 19, 2009 10:26 AM CDT up reply actions

He's still god major potential

I looked at a HitFX chart not too long ago, and Salty was top 5 in the league as far as the speed of the ball when it comes off his bat. That’s not among catchers or among players with last names longer than 10 letters; It’s overall. He has some huge issues to work through as far as making contact is concerned, though. The problem is that our vaunted depth has suddenly dissappeared completely.

Undamnbelievable

how baseball stupid some of these guys are right now.

We’re down by 3 runs late. MY swings and misses at a very high ball 3 on 2-1 count. Grounds out.

Before getting lucky on the dink “hit”, Nellie swings out of his shoes trying to hit that “oh so meaningful” solo home run while down 4-1.

Saltalamacchia…. ugh, just sucks. Doesn’t help when he’s swinging 1-0 on a horrible pitch when he needs to find a way to get on bases, namely by walking or working count in his favor.

It really looks like all of them are swinging as hard as me on the golf course all the time… which is out-of-their-shoes bad. Dear God, why can’t they see that???!!!

This offense...

upsets me greatly. Anyone else notice our leadoff guy saw 3 pitches in his first 3 AB’s?

This team swings and misses at more pitches than any baseball team I’ve ever seen. The only reason why half these guys see 4 pitches an AB is because they have to swing and miss at 3 of them before they can K.

I’m sick of it. These guys just aren’t willing to take a couple pitches. The most patient guy at the plate is the fucking 20 year old rookie. Every guy is just going up there swinging for the fences. It doesn’t matter the score or situation. Whether you hit leadoff or are hitting while down a couple runs late in the game with no one on base. I’m tired of it.

If Rudy can’t/won’t get these guys to take a pitch then can his ass.

Rudy’s approach seems better for the 2000-2007 Texas Rangers, but not anymore. This team isn’t full of guys that can hit 25-30 homers up and down the lineup anymore. Singles and walks seem almost a let down for some of these guys swinging out of their shoes every time they come up.

But, I continue to stick with this bs one-half team for years now. It’s getting old fast. I really would PREFER to be the idiot in this case, but unfortunately, I’m being proven more right about issues than the people who are attacking me.

Maybe some people should make projections of their own and start figuring out when they personally attack people that maybe they should do it about stuff they’re actually more knowledgeable about, not ones where they’re “sure” or “certain” that certain things are never going to happen.

I think it would be disasterous for the psyche of the players

While we may disagree with his philosophy right now, he is a huge asset in the clubhouse. A lot of the players still look up to him and trust him. If the Rangers fall out of the pennant race because of the offensive struggles, then I could see where management could make the move, but right now I think it would be even more detrimental to fire him (and probably wouldn’t really impact the offense immediatately anyways).

i agree.

while i’m against it for now, if the rest of the season the offensive is horrendous i’d be very satisfied with rudy release…

too bad we can’t trade him.

All we have to do is not renew him...

I think the best thing for everyone might be if he gets a big offer elsewhere and we “just aren’t able to match it”. No one gets their panties in a bunch over him getting let go, yet we get a fresh voice that we so desperately seem to need.
