Wieland last time, but gotta go with Engel Beltre here by a hair over Boscan and Madrigal.
Beltre’s tools are jaw dropping, and his drop in slash-line production from last year is strikingly similar to his drop in BABIP. From the looks of things he’s been working hard on taking more pitches/walks. Oh, and he’s still realy young.

Nothing in particular.
He actually belongs in the next group for me.
What he’s been doing this year has gone overlooked, imo.
He might be above Boscan and Madrigal, I’ll have to give it another look tomorrow.

Great Sign
To be in a position here you are thinking wether a guy with the upside of Beltre deserves to be in the top 15 of your team’s system.
Boscan for me here.
After him, I have no idea.

Boscan & Moreland
the next two for me

Wow...
I have Boscan at #9. The fact that he may not even make the top 15 on this list shows how deep this system really is.

OT: Did MJH ever finish his top 40?
Anybody have a link if he did?
I think Poveda should be on before Boscan.
Riddle me why not, seriously.

Yep
Loved Poveda for a couple years now. Been voting him last couple tries
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
me too
Like I said in the last thread, he’s a pitcher with a similar ceiling to Wieland and Boscan but is pitching well in AA as opposed to Hickory.
Psst
I don’t think the crowd is with us.

A Name to Add...
Although I’m not certain if I’d vote for him in the next couple of rounds, I think Richard Alvarez might be worth adding to the list. He is, after all, currently holding his own in the Arizona Rookie League despite being about three weeks away from turning 17.

I'm voting for Hurley at this point
Lots of pretty good talent still out there, but I’m going with the ML ready starter in Hurley. The health is a concern of course, but I think he can make it back and be ready for next season.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Hurley
has definitely gotten lost in all this. Whose to say he doesnt come back and do very well? I mean he didnt have snap dragon type slider or curve that he has to stop throwing now that he had surgery. Sounds weird but he simply had it and it working his way back. Honestly, guys that dont have to abandon a pitch or throw it differently after TJ usually come back fairly strong.

the issue is
again that no one knows anything about his injury or his rehab — anyway, looking at his stats in the minors over the last few years, would he really deserve to be in the rangers top 15 prospects?

our least talked about pitching prospect
Kennil Gomez. He isn’t blowing away the Cal League, but he is holding his own. Groundball and K rates look good, the stats say that he just needs to work on his changeup because while RHB are hitting only .216 against him, LHB tune him up at .332.
BA had him ranked above both Poveda and Ross in the handbook and had this to say:
Gomez’s athletic frame and clean, easy arm action evoke Ervin Santana. He has good command of a 88-93 fastball with sink and run and his 75-78 three quarters breaking ball projects as a plus offering…Coaches rave about his makeup…very popular in the clubhouse…defenders love playing behind him because he works quickly…
Hindman has him at #16 and has this to say:
His arsenal features a high-80’s / low-90’s two-seam fastball with absolutely wicked late movement and a strong bender. Don’t get too caught up in the numbers he’s posted in Bakersfield (2-7; 4.82 ERA). The Cal League is not terribly friendly to pitchers who rely on movement.
I didn’t vote him here, and I’m not sure when I will start voting him, but I just wanted to throw his name in the mix because he’s a pretty good looking pitching prospect that hasn’t been talked about at all.
There's more to the picture than meets the eye.
And I think this shows the problem with choosing a guy to vote for in this area.
There are so many B-/C+ guys in this system that choosing one over another at this point is tough.
Every guy I think of I can find another to compare him to who maybe could be a little better.
It’s wide open at this point.

And Beltre & all the other hitters.
I suppose we as Ranger fans are conditioned to always value pitching, but…

To a pt
Right now I would not trade away Smoak in any deal (realistically, I mean if the Jays said Smoak for Hallday sure, but that WONT happen). I would trade Holland, Feliz, or Perez before Smoak (not just because of the hitting struggles that is just who i think is the most valuble). I supremely believe that by the middle of 2011 the elder statesman in our rotation will be Feldman.
There are going to be 40 man roster crunches coming up soon, I just hope the Rangers choose the right guys to deal.

once it gets into this territory it starts to get like that
outside of the top 15-18 everything starts getting even more divided.

23 year old reliever repeating A+.
No, thanks.
The ERA is nice and the sexy K-rate (12/9) keep him interesting, but the walks (5.5/9) are a huge concern.
He’s a person of interest, but I hesitate to dub him a prospect at this point.

Beau Jones?
Walk rate (6+) and BABIP (.419) have hurt him this year, but he’s missing bats and given up just 1 bomb.

I don't understand what they've been doing with him.
I just know that he hasn’t exactly played behind stellar defenses.
