Just an interesting thing I was thinking about. Can't think many other teams could field
a better overall ex-player team (Maybe Oakland)

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Show me

the payroll. Where would that team rank in payroll? What are the current batting averages and ERA’s of that staff?

My point was not to rip the Rangers

Theres no team that could afford all those players. Besides the Yankees

You forgot Ryan Dempster

and you also forgot to not make this post.

Drafted Yes

But he never played a game for them

fine

played for the Rangers organization. Semantics of course because the Rangers ‘could’ still have him just like everyone else you listed.

My bad

I had swore he did. Must’ve been thinking Volquez

by LSU Ranger on Jul 2, 2009 12:22 PM CDT up reply actions

I bet this "team" for every club would be equally impressive

everyone in that former rangers lineup has played for at least 3 teams in their career (or, in the case of Gonzalez, was drafted by another team).

(Also I would have Gonzalez at 1st and Teixeira DH’ing, but that is me being consistent with thinking Gonzalez is the better player)

I think more interesting would be a list of the best teams each club could field using only players they originally signed (drafted, int’l signings, etc).

I disagree

You couldn’t with Yankees, Mets, Red Sox etc.

yankees

Not as complete, because they’ve had Jeter at SS forever and I didn’t feel like digging through all the pitchers. I’m sure there is some scrub who has passed through to play those positions

i once had a fantasy baseball league where each owner picked a real team

and could only draft players that were (at one point in their careers) on the ML roster of that team. I had the Rangers, and it was pretty difficult to field a pitching staff (several years back). Plus, you had to know which of your targets could be drafted by other teams. It was also interesting because guys who were lifelong players of your team wouldn’t be drafted until the very end.

just went back and found the team I drafted in 2005

1st round – Ivan Rodriguez
2nd – Kenny Rogers
3. (55) Doug Davis
4. (66) Travis Hafner
5. (95) Francisco Cordero
6. (106) Ugueth Urbina
7. (135) Craig Monroe
8. (146) Kevin Brown
9. (175) Ryan Drese
10. (186) Aaron Sele
11. (215) Dan Kolb
12. (226) Rod Barajas
13. (255) Brian Shouse
14. (266) Mike Stanton
15. (295) Mark Teixeira
16. (306) Kevin Mench
17. (335) Laynce Nix
18. (346) Chris Young
19. (375) Chan Ho Park
20. (386) Kameron Loe
21. (415) Nick Regilio
22. (426) Michael Young
23. (455) Hank Blalock

Also added Julio Franco, Mike Lamb, Desi Relaford, Joaquin Benoit for Regilio, Kolb, Barajas, and Stanton at some point during the season.

I finished 14th out of 20th…unsurprisingly.

I'm in one of those this year

And despite the Rangers being in first most of the season, I’m in something like 9th place out of 12 teams

Danny Herrera

would be a bullpen option as well. And you might be able to throw the Duke on the pitching staff in a month or so. We need to trade off Andrus soon, because your SS is weak.

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

wait till next year and you can add Omar Vizquel

Well one thing is for sure the team was well covered at

First Base, the rangers have always (well since the late 70s) had some excellent first basemen, and if CD ever learns to hit he could carry it forward

Why don’t you research it and tell us. Oh I know maybe you could get Josey to help you out.

That rotation...

would be pretty weak. Galarraga has been pretty inconsistent, Young is on the DL with shoulder inflammation and Volquez is on the DL with elbow inflammation (is TJ in his future?).
