Jason Kidd signs 3 year deal with Knicks. (Not officially, but I'm calling it and that is what matters)
Jason Kidd just signed a 3 year deal with the knicks. What does this mean for the Mavericks?
Who is our new starting point guard..
JJ Barea is it right now... We can't even win 40 games with that... He's a good backup, but not a starter...
Whats Cuban going to do? It seems as though he's not into spending the money anymore at all, I think he gave up..
So if Barea is our starting point guard going into the season, then we know this organization is done?

Too bad for Houston
That team went down in flames fast. First T-Mac is done. Then Yao’s injury might be “career-ending”. And now this.

i was puzzled when i heard the mavs offer 3 years and i dont even think NBA is real
mormons stole me and held me against my will with Oklahoma beer and 12+ hour work days.
Gortat might sign here.
Upgrade over Damp sure but for a reported 5 years? Yeesh.
Does Zach Phillips have to choke a bitch to get to Frisco?
Apparently
He has agreed to sign the offer sheet, and it’s up to Orlando to match, which they won’t.

I know it puts them in luxury-tax, but are you sure they don't match?

See, I think they should
They’d have no depth behind Howard. Lost Battie/Turk and now Gortat? Probably won’t though.

Gortat
Mark Stein Twittered earlier tonight that Gortat to the Mavs is all but a done deal.
I haven’t seen any confirmation on Kidd to the Knicks either, but I can’t say it bothers me. Maybe now the Mavs can get on with shaking up the team.
"I dont care to debate with a troll." - Sharky
eh, he's 24 so if he develops into a solid C, you're getting him on the cheap through his prime
i like the idea of signing a guy like him… But unfortunately we just dont have the pieces and we now need a true SG and PG really. I wonder if Jet takes the reigns full time now at PG? Does that even seem viable

hmm, i mean are we really ready to throw JJ out there as the starter?
I love the guy, really love him, but his game seems to be great from the bench. I mean, we dont have alot to choose from

Also the idea the Jr is spreading
that damp and stack can be traded before the season starts really should be taken as an assumption completely detached from reality, well, like all of Jr’s moves. Those 2 won’t likely get moved until the deadline. If Kidd is smart he won’t board that plane back to Dallas.

no i have never heard of a television.
thats what the internet is for. of course it also allows people, apparently you in this instance, to think people, me, are trying to start fights, which is not the case.
typically when breaking news is posted on the internet there is a link or some sort of credit to go along with where they heard it. there was none, no mention of where it was heard and i looked and found nothing, hence it is easy to believe that this was more of your schtick. if that is not the case then i will hope the mavs “brain trust” has some sort of strategy to get a starting pg in here and thank you for breaking the news.

Yeah..

Ross is a plus defender and plus 3 point shooter. That is what we need.
"Being successful in life isn't about how smart you are or how hard you try, its how big of an ego you have." - Miles
whatever
Ross is not a 3-point specialist. He shot the three well last year, and only last year. He couldn’t hit a house from three point range his first 4 years.
Man
You’re reaching for negativity here.
His first 3 years he took a combined 21 3s.
When he actually started shooting some, he hit them.
by brettgardner on Jul 2, 2009 10:30 PM CDT up reply actions
Ross as a" plus 3 point shooter "
can’t be taken seriously. He about 25 3’s in his first 4 years, made about about a 20% clip and then has a year where he makes about 25 threes (or 1 every 3 games) at a league average rate can’t be regarded as an improvement over Wright. Ross is third string all the way.
Dude
The one who can’t be trusted is you. You’re severely misrepresenting the data to make a point, which is really sad.
He essentially doubled his three point output in 07-08, and hit at .429%. Then last year, while playing 17 minutes a game, he was slightly above average. Maybe it’s a stretch to say “plus” but he’s significantly better than Wright.

Young PG
The Mavs did acquire two in the draft- Beaubois and Calathes. I’m not that high on Beaubois, but Calathes is supposed to have a lot of potential. Dallas just has to wait a year until his contract with Panathinaikos is up.
"I dont care to debate with a troll." - Sharky
Yeah, I know
but he’s not going to be that good. He isn’t quick enough, he won’t be able to keep up in NBA speed.
Beaubois has the high upside, but probably won’t pan out..
"Being successful in life isn't about how smart you are or how hard you try, its how big of an ego you have." - Miles
I don't think Calathes has "minus" speed
he’ll be average or a little on the slow side but I think elsewhere he could be solid. There are point guards out there who don’t have the tremendous speed.
If Beaubois somehow turns out a lesser version of Devin Harris, I’ll think it’s a nice pick.
Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.
calathes contract is for 2 years i believe
although he will most likely be there for only one as he has a reasonable buyout.
unlike most i am actually a fan of roddy b. I was hoping we trade up to get him in the second after we picked mullens and as i was texting that to a buddy okc took him next pick. I was very surprised we grabbed him that high. bottom line is he is raw yes, but has a great shot, off the charts athleticism, and devin harris speed.

He has been frustrating me with his approach to the Rangers since last summer, and it finally dawned on me that the core of the issue is that he doesn’t actually like baseball like he does the other sports. So you have a team that hasn’t won in a long time, and you combine that with his lack of interest in the details of the sport, which he has for the other major sports, and you get his lazy approach to the Rangers.

when I wear my ‘Jurickson Profar sexes me up so crazy’ t-shirt around town
Look at the comments under Jeff Wilson's blog post on dallasnews.com. What a bunch of rocket scientists.- Keith Law

Well, its not like they are gonna win
with anything they can put on the floor.
They need to see if the big soft Euro can fetch anything in trade.

Oh boy...
there’s the “big soft Euro” thing again.
I don’t think Cuban wants to rebuild without a 2010 draft pick and while Dirk is still one of the top players in the league.
Fuckin’ Kidd trade.
Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.
You know
I imagine if this team were “blown up”, one of the things received in the process would be a draft pick.
I doubt
Dirk gets more value year to year.
I don’t see anyway the team builds a winner around Dirk with where the team is now.

how in the hell did this get 3 rec's so far?
seriously, i know miles is the precosious little brother of LSB, but rec’ing this sends all the wrong messages to noobs out there.
"Anyone that isn't pro-choice never met you" ~Brian Thomas on Seth...
No shit.
I’ve always been puzzled as to what the deal with reccing everything Miles writes is. It was halfway amusing for awhile, but seeing meaningless posts sit on the rec’d list for weeks at a time gets old fast. Shit, even if people recced everything I wrote it would start wearing on my nerves pretty fast.
Nothing against Miles, but the little rec game that people play with his posts is BS.
Get on base or die, Salty.

kidd to the knicks?
i don’t see that. knicks need to free up money for 2 big signings next off season. bosh/lebron?
they’d only get kidd for 1 year, and i’m sure dallas can beat a 1 year deal
Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was on the same pitching staff with Danny Darwin during the 1986 through 1988 seasons. Both were described by Milo Hamilton as "tall, tough Texans." It was a source of debate amongst Astros players and fans over who would win in a fight, Ryan or Darwin. Though Astros pitcher Bob Knepper attempted to set up a fight between the two during spring training in 1988, manager Hal Lanier stopped it before it could commence. Many experts, including Astros shortstop Rafael Ramirez, felt that Darwin would win because he "looked like someone no man would want to mess with."
My thoughts.....
I do not think that Kidd will sign with the Knicks. The main reason that he would sign with them is the chance that Lebron somehow winds up there (I don’t think this will happen)
Here is what I see happening this off-season for the Mavs:
1.Gortat signs and the Magic do not match.
2. Kidd re-ups with the Mavs
3. The Mavs then trade Stacks expiring in a sign and trade for Shawn Marion.
4. Bass will sign with someone else
our lineup will look like this:
C: Gortat, Damp
PF: Dirk
SF:Marion
SG: Howard, Terry
PG:Kidd, Barea
It will get you to the playoffs again…..but I can’t see it getting you past the 2nd round, so the mavs will be right back where they were….not good enough.

forget marion
S & T for marvin williams, young player with upside, wont rock the boat, great wing defender and really improved on his 3 point shooting last year.
Charter member of the Dutch bandwagon
I would agree....
Again that is just what I see happening.
I like Williams because like Gortat they make this team younger as well as better.
I just see the mavs looking to make a splash that will put butts in seats. Marion fits that bill.

Hoopsworld says Kidd coming back
I’m posting the link, even though Miles called it and therefore any subsequent news coming out is clearly wrong.
